Gaza: Airstrikes, Explosive Vehicles, Bulldozers Cause ‘Insane’ Destruction

Ahead of its planned full-scale invasion of Gaza City, the Israeli army is causing widespread destruction in the Strip’s largest urban center, forcing residents to evacuate ahead of its publicly declared start date: October 7. Recent reports from eyewitnesses and the Gaza Civil Defense show that the Israeli army has been using retrofitted armored personnel carriers (APCs) that are sent into dense population centers, including neighborhoods and displacement centers, before they are remotely detonated. The attacks continue alongside an extensive bulldozing operation in the city and constant aerial bombardment. Between August 12 and August 18, the Israeli army destroyed over 400 buildings in the Zaytoun neighborhood and launched a limited ground incursion at its edges.

The Global Sumud Flotilla

In July 2025, a new international maritime initiative was launched: the Global Sumud Flotilla. It was formed by four major coalitions: the Global Campaign to Return to Palestine, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the Maghreb Sumud Convoy, and the Southeast Asian Nusantara Sumud Initiative. The Global Sumud Flotilla is set to depart on August 31, 2025. Its goal is clear: to break Israel’s illegal blockade on Gaza, to deliver urgent humanitarian aid, and to expose the genocidal war waged on Palestinians.  The flotilla is composed of dozens of small civilian vessels carrying activists, parliamentarians, doctors, and trade unionists, alongside humanitarian cargo.

Washington Stands Alone At United Nations Security Council

All but one of the 15 members of the UN Security Council – the US – declared that the famine in Gaza is a “manmade crisis” and warned that using starvation as a weapon of war is prohibited under international law and constitutes a war crime, during a meeting on 27 August. The 14 council members announced in a statement that they support an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, a significant surge of aid throughout Gaza, and for Israel to immediately and unconditionally lift all restrictions on relief deliveries. “Famine in Gaza must be stopped immediately,” the statement read. “Time is of the essence. The humanitarian emergency must be addressed without delay and Israel must reverse course.”

On The Ethics Of Embedding With Génocidaires

On Sunday, August 10, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a dramatic announcement: After 674 days of barring foreign media from Gaza, Israel was planning to begin staging guided tours, under Israeli military control, for embedded members of the foreign press. “We have decided, and have ordered, directed the military, to bring in foreign journalists—more foreign journalists, a lot,” said Israel’s premier, in a rambling, paranoid half-hour press conference—staged, he said, to dispel “the global campaign of lies” against Israel. “There’s a problem with assuring security, but I think it can be done in a way that is responsible and careful to preserve your own safety.

Democratic National Committee Rejects Resolution For Israel Arms Embargo

On Tuesday, Democratic National Committee (DNC) members at the party’s summer meetings rejected Resolution 18, which called for the recognition of a Palestinian state, a ceasefire in Gaza, an arms embargo, and a suspension of military aid to Israel. Instead, members backed a status quo resolution introduced by DNC Chair Ken Martin, which simply called for more aid to be allowed into Gaza and a two-state solution. Despite the support, Martin went on to withdraw the resolution. “I know that there are some who are interested in making changes today, but as we’ve seen, there’s divide in our party on this issue,” said Martin. “This is a moment that calls for shared dialog."

Iran Demands Concrete International Action To End Israel’s Genocide

Abbas Araghchi, Iranian foreign minister, called for more concrete collective action against Israel, asserting that mere verbal condemnations are no longer enough to prevent its “insatiable” Zionist ambitions to ethnically cleanse Palestinians and expand their occupation in the region. Araghchi reiterated that the Israeli war in Gaza “is not merely a fleeting military conflict or an ordinary humanitarian crisis: it is a systematic, full fledged genocide explicitly intended to achieve ethnic cleansing amid the complicit silence of the US and the West more broadly.” Citing the daily killing of Palestinians seeking humanitarian aid, Araghchi said that Israel has “turned hunger and famine into a new tool of genocide” and “food distribution centers into death traps for hungry women and children”, claiming that the war and genocide in Gaza is amongst the “darkest human tragedies of the modern era”.

Gaza Is The Compass: Second Annual People’s Conference For Palestine

For two years, Gaza has been a moral and political compass that has guided so many towards true liberation. Israel, with full US backing and support, is starving 2 million Palestinians, carrying out a plan for mass displacement and ethnic cleansing in both Gaza and the West Bank, and continuously bombing and shooting Palestinians with the number of martyrs rising daily. Israel’s brutality, though gruesome and with the ultimate price being paid by Palestinians in Gaza, resembles more the last thrashes of a dying beast, than it does a mighty force. Zionism itself is facing an existential crisis. Around the world, Israel’s murderous rampage has given it a spotlight for international scrutiny and has turned Zionism into a pariah among the world’s masses.

Israel’s Assassination Of Memory

As Israel ticks off its list of Nazi-like atrocities against the Palestinians, including mass starvation, it prepares for yet another – the demolition of Gaza City, one of the oldest cities on Earth. Heavy engineering equipment and gigantic armored bulldozers are tearing down hundreds of heavily damaged buildings. Cement trucks are churning out concrete to fill tunnels. Israeli tanks and fighter jets pummel neighborhoods to drive Palestinians who remain in the ruins of the city to the south. It will take months to turn Gaza City into a parking lot. I have no doubt Israel will replicate the efficiency of the Nazi SS Gen. Erich von dem Bach-Zelewski, who oversaw the obliteration of Warsaw.

Chris Hedges Report: Israel’s War On The United Nations

For millions of Palestinians, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is more than just a humanitarian organization — it is a lifeline. For 75 years, it has provided crucial infrastructure support and sustained a population facing heavy repression at the behest of Israel. For the past 22 months, the organization has proved as important as ever in the midst of genocide. UNRWA and its facilities have provided schools, hospitals, cafeterias and more for Palestinians when no other help existed. Precisely because it is sometimes the sole entity continuing to keep Palestinians alive, Israel targets them and has killed 310 staff members in Gaza. On this episode of The Chris Hedges Report, host Chris Hedges is joined by Mara Kronenfeld, Executive Director of UNRWA USA.

Black People Who See Themselves In Palestinians Find Israel Sees The Same

Zoharah Simmons’ first trip to Israel and its occupied territories in 1994 got off to an inauspicious start. Born Gwen Robinson in Memphis, Tennessee, the great granddaughter of a slave and a former organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee who volunteered to work in Mississippi during Freedom Summer, Simmons was hardly unfamiliar with European settler colonialism or the violence that is its motor. She was, however, caught off guard by what she experienced upon her arrival in Tel Aviv as part of a peace delegation with the American Friends Service Committee, a social justice organization founded by the Quakers. First, there was the matter of getting past Israel’s immigration and customs agents.

UN Military Force Needed To Halt Israel’s Assault On Gaza, Tribunal Says

A group of leading academics, legal experts and human rights advocates have called for the creation of a UN-mandated international military force to stop Israel's 22-month-long war on the besieged Gaza Strip. In a statement on Monday, Richard Falk, the president of the Gaza Tribunal Project and a former UN special rapporteur, called on the international community to implement the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) principle. "Law has failed, because it has not been enforced," Falk said at a press conference in Istanbul as he urged the international community to use R2P as a framework for intervention. He noted that the lack of enforcement had left Palestinians unprotected despite clear evidence of mass atrocities.

Palestinian Youth Movement Makes Genocide Support Costly For Maersk

After two years of continuous effort in research, agitation and direct action, the organizers of the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) celebrated a landmark organizing victory in late June. Their “Mask Off Maersk” campaign had sought to prove the complicity of the Danish freight-logistics titan A.P. Møller – Maersk A/S in the genocide in Gaza. Maersk, as it’s generally known, was found by PYM to be contributing to the ongoing crimes against humanity in Gaza by shipping arms transfers to the perpetrating Israeli military; these shipments included critical parts for the F-35 fighters that have been used to bomb Gaza’s civilian population.

Thousands To Join ‘Mass March For Humanity’ Against Starvation Of Gaza

On Saturday, August 16, demonstrators are set to march in protest of Israel’s starvation of Gaza in a “Mass March for Humanity” through the streets of New York City. Over 200 organizations have endorsed, coming from an array of diverse backgrounds including the Palestinian diaspora, pro-Palestine solidarity groups, labor unions, anti-war groups, faith groups, and others. Buses are set to travel from across the northeastern United States, including from Baltimore, Boston, Burlington, New Hampshire, Philadelphia, Providence and Washington, DC. “Genocide will never stop without global intervention,” Dr. Nidal Jboor, the cofounder of Doctors Against Genocide, told Peoples Dispatch.

Twenty-Four US-Allied Nations Urge Israel To Lift All Restrictions On Aid

Twenty-four US-allied nations and three senior EU officials have signed a joint statement calling for Israel to lift all restrictions on aid entering the Gaza Strip, warning that the Israeli-imposed famine has reached “unimaginable levels.” The statement, published by the British Foreign Ministry, comes as Palestinians continue to starve to death every day in Gaza due to the US-backed Israeli blockade. “The humanitarian suffering in Gaza has reached unimaginable levels. Famine is unfolding before our eyes. Urgent action is needed now to halt and reverse starvation. Humanitarian space must be protected, and aid should never be politicized,” the statement reads.

Starving Indigenous Peoples Then And Now

There is increasing evidence that “widespread starvation, malnutrition and disease” are driving a rise in hunger-related deaths“ in Gaza, a group of United Nations and aid organizations have repeatedly warned. A July 29 alert by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, a global initiative for improving food security and nutrition, reported that the “worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out in the Gaza Strip,” as access to food and other essential items is dropping to an “unprecedented level.” More than 500,000 Palestinians, one-fourth of Gaza’s population, are experiencing famine, the U.N. stated. And all 320,000 children under age 5 are “at risk of acute malnutrition, with serious lifelong physical and mental health consequences.”
