Inter-Imperialist Rivalry

“The US Got Scared” Voices Of The Resistance In Post-Coup Honduras

TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS — MintPress News went to Honduras and spoke with a number of leaders of the Honduran resistance amid a 66-day uprising over a neoliberal austerity deal reached between the government as the country marked the 10-year anniversary of the U.S.-backed coup d’etat. Last Thursday, the Honduran government passed a privatization law, the run-up to which had triggered uprisings challenging the mandate of President Juan Orlando Hernandez and protesting the implementation of a privatization deal reached with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) — a deal kept secret until this week.

Thirty Years After Tiananmen Square, The U.S. Is Still Trying To Destabilize China

Last month marked three decades since the conclusion of the 1989 Tiananmen Square demonstrations in China. The anniversary is opportune for Washington and its Western partners to ramp-up their Sinophobic smear campaign while recycling the hoax they have propagated ever since the June Fourth incident occurred. Coverage of the commemoration has been wedded with the ongoing propaganda and wild accusation that the People’s Republic has currently detained up to 1 million Turkic Uyghur Muslims from the autonomous Xinjiang province in “concentration camps.”

Remnants Of War

Intense fighting and hideous attacks battered Afghans throughout their country last week as negotiators in Qatar weighed the benefits and costs of  a peace agreement that might stop the bloodshed. In Kabul at least 40 people, including one child, were killed in a complex Taliban attack. Dozens of children whose school was partially collapsed by a massive car bomb were injured. Of these, 21 were hospitalized with serious injuries. New York Times correspondent Mujib Mashal posted (on Twitter) a photo of an elementary school child being carried into the Italian Emergency Surgical Center for Victims of War in Kabul.

Trump Murdered The Iran Deal—And Europe Isn’t Too Happy About It

Europe did not want Trump and the United States to walk out of the Obama-era Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). JCPOA was the deal negotiated with great effort by Iran and the P5+1 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the UK, and the U.S.) and signed in 2015. At the time, Europe had substantially lost access to three of its main sources of energy—Russia, Libya, and Iran. Desperation for Iranian oil drove the European pressure on the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama to come on board the JCPOA. The U.S. was forced, kicking and screaming, into the agreement.

Venezuela Guaido Security Arrested For Selling Stolen Venezuelan Army Weapons

Venezuelan Minister of Communication Jorge Rodriguez reports that two security guards of the self-declared interim president, Juan Guaido have been captured for trying to sell weapons stolen from the National Guard in the run up to Guaido’s failed coup d'état attempt of the government April 30. At a press conference, Rodriguez presented "overwhelming" evidence of the direct involvement of Guaido in the theft of official weapons used in his failed overthrow of President Nicolas Maduro.

Iran Faces US Aggression And European Hypocrisy, But This Time It’s Ready

There is no reason to expect that a declining and desperate empire will conduct itself in a civilised manner. Iran is prepared for the worst. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani chairing a cabinet meeting in Tehran on 7 July (AFP) Western cultural arrogance rears its Medusa-like head each time US President Donald Trump rails about obliterating Iran. Leaders and politicians of the self-proclaimed free and civilised world - along with some human rights organisations, major media outlets, and state-affiliated public figures - express their unique form of collective inhumanity through absolute silence.

Venezuela: US Trying To Destroy Political Dialogue In Barbados

Venezuela's Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza Wednesday denounced that the U.S. President Donald Trump administration is seeking to "destroy" the negotiations being carried out by President Nicolas Maduro's delegates and the Venezuelan right-wing opposition in Barbados. "Due to the resounding failure of all forms of aggression against Venezuela, the Trump Administration intends to destroy the political dialogue process between the Government and the opposition, trying to impose its warfare agenda. They will not be able to do it. Peace will prevail!," Arreaza tweeted.

What Is the Biggest Lie About The Syrian War? Western War Propaganda, Regime Change, Terrorism

In this episode of Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox, Cindy and Mark discuss criminal Western war propaganda, how it fabricates tacit “consent” from ostensibly “anti-war” protestors, and how it enables the current overseas holocaust that imperils us all. Some of the issues raised throughout the interview include these: “Anti-war” protestors embrace the “brutal dictator” myth, oblivious to known facts on-the-ground such as the multitudes of displaced Syrians in Lebanon who clamored to vote for President Assad and even a 2013 NATO...

Hong Kong: New Epicenter Of The Empire’s Smear Campaign Against China?

As the Western Empire ramps up its full-spectrum war on the Chinese, its latest target is Hong Kong, China’s premier special administrative region (SAR). Even the latest wave of media assaults confirms it. An essential adjunct to an Imperial attack on any designated victim is a sustained campaign of demonization, conducted through mainstream media and supported by associated local media. Such a drive had been onging in Hong Kong, since the former British colony returned to its motherland in 1997.

For The Reasons That Follow, That Country Is Currently Not Likely To Be The United States

The largest delegation from outside Russia at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in early June came from China. The Chinese team was led by the country’s President, Xi Jinping. In this 23rd Forum, Mandarin joined Russian and English as one of the languages on signs and in conversations. Xi and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin seemed comfortable with each other, the bonhomie between the two states clear. During the Forum, the two countries hosted a gala concert to celebrate the seventieth anniversary for the re-establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Russia.

A World Without Dollars? Are We Approaching The End Of America’s Financial Order?

In the last decade or so, the reputation of the U.S. dollar has been widely discredited because it is viewed by many governments around the world as a risky asset since the U.S. economy holds more than $21 trillion in debt and if you add the unfunded liabilities in the form of promises to ensure payments to retirees associated with government pensions, entitlement programs and social security amounts to more than $200 trillion. The dollar is a fiat currency based on “faith” which is issued by the Treasury department and backed by the full weight of U.S. government...

Russia-China-India Creating An ‘Indivisible Security Architecture’ For Eurasia

The most important trilateral at the G20 in Osaka was confined to a shoddy environment unworthy of Japan’s unrivaled aesthetic minimalism. Japan excels in perfect planning and execution. So it’s hard to take this setup as an unfortunate “accident.” At least the – unofficial – Russia-India-China summit at the sidelines of the G20 transcended the fate of an interior decorator deserving to commit seppuku. Leaders of these three countries met in virtual secrecy. The very few media representatives present in the shabby room were soon invited to leave.

Unilateral Sanctions And International Law

The world order established by the UN Charter takes precedence over other international and regional treaties and imposes positive and negative obligations on member states, including the United States of America and the European Union. This is stipulated in Article 103 of the Charter, the supremacy clause. The question arises whether in the light of the UN Charter unilateral coercive measures could be considered compatible with modern international law?

How Russia’s President Putin Explains The End Of The ‘Liberal’ Order

It is only the last part of the very long interview, where Putin indeed speaks of the 'obsolesce' of the 'liberal idea', that seems to be of interest to the media. Most of the interview is in fact about other issues. The media also do not capture how his 'obsolete' argument is ingrained in the worldview Putin developed, and how it reflects in many of his answers. Here are excerpts that show that the gist of Putin's 'obsolete' argument is not against the 'liberal idea', but against what may be best called 'international (neo-)liberalism'.

Russia-India-China Will Be The Big G20 Hit

June 28, 2019 "Information Clearing House" -  It all started with the Vladimir Putin–Xi Jinping summit in Moscow on June 5. Far from a mere bilateral, this meeting upgraded the Eurasian integration process to another level. The Russian and Chinese presidents discussed everything from the progressive interconnection of the New Silk Roads with the Eurasia Economic Union...
