With US Support, Netanyahu Threatens Lebanon With Destruction

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 8 October called on the people of Lebanon to “free [their] country from Hezbollah,” threatening them with “destruction and suffering” if they refused to do so. “You have an opportunity to save Lebanon before it falls into the abyss of a long war that will lead to destruction and suffering like we see in Gaza. It doesn’t have to be that way,” Netanyahu said as his country’s air force continued to launch non-stop raids across Lebanon. “We have degraded Hezbollah’s capabilities; we took out thousands of terrorists, including [Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan] Nasrallah himself, and Nasrallah’s replacement, and the replacement of his replacement,” the Israeli premier added before calling on the people of Lebanon to “take back your country, and return it to a path of peace and prosperity.”

Biden Officials Say Ceasefire Talks Are Suspended

Biden officials have reportedly admitted that ceasefire negotiations amid Israel’s war on Lebanon and genocide in Gaza have been suspended, despite public insistence by high-powered figures within the administration that they are working around the clock for a ceasefire. The Biden administration has given up on ceasefire talks after first proposing a deal for a 21-day ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel just two weeks ago, CNN reports, citing U.S. officials. The U.S. is “not actively trying to revive the deal,” the outlet wrote.

Utah Students Win Victory Against Israeli Study Abroad Program

Salt Lake City, UT – On October 3, 50 students and community members gathered on the campus of the University of Utah to demand an end to the school’s study abroad program with the University of Haifa, an Israeli military college that practices discrimination against its Arab and Muslim students. Organizers also called for the University of Utah’s full divestment from companies involved in the Israeli genocide in Gaza, reinvestment in student resources, and for the University of Utah to respect students’ right to protest for Palestine. The rally also celebrated the Palestinian resistance. Chris Loera-Peña of Mecha de U of U said, “It’s been a year of genocide, but also a year of non-stop resistance and fighting from the Palestinian people and the entire world.”

Report: Blinken Approved Israeli Attacks On Gaza Aid Convoys

US State Secretary Anthony Blinken gave the green light for Israel to launch attacks against humanitarian aid convoys inside the Gaza Strip in the early days of Israel's genocide of Palestinians, according to a report by Drop Site News (DSN) citing Israeli journalists and media outlets. Tel Aviv's decision was made during a marathon session of the Security Cabinet between 16 and 17 October that Blinken took part in. “From within the Kirya, the Israeli military’s main headquarters in Tel Aviv, Blinken participated in the frantic discussions of the Israeli War Cabinet … that were occurring in parallel to conversations in the broader Security Cabinet,” DSN reports.

Report: Israel Expected To Target Military Sites In Iran

Israel’s expected attack against Iran will likely target military sites, The New York Times reported Monday, citing Israeli officials. The report said Israel’s initial response to Iran’s missile barrage that was launched in retaliation for Israeli escalations could also target intelligence sites and Iranian leadership. If Iran hits back, then Israel might target Iran’s civilian nuclear facilities, although Israel isn’t expected to be able to do much damage to any of the underground facilities without US support. The US appears to favor Israel striking military sites as President Biden has called for a “proportionate” response to the Iranian attack, which targeted Israeli military bases.

Palestine Action Hit Ten Branches Of Israel Genocide-Enabler Allianz

Allianz has previously been described as Elbit’s “principle institutional shareholder”, at-one-point owning over 2% of the company. The finance company continues to hold thousands of shares in Elbit Systems Ltd, while its subsidiary ‘Allianz Insurance Products Trust’ provides insurance services for Elbit Systems UK, including employment insurance. One year on from the start of the genocide in Gaza, these nationwide action serves as a reminder that, throughout the past twelve months, Western capital has continued to profit from the mass murder of Palestinians. Allianz’ profit books, its returns on its investments, have been bolstered by the hundreds of military technologies which Elbit provides in service of genocide.

School Curriculum Supports The Genocide

Scholasticide. It’s a term coined in 2009, but has taken on new power as the devastation of Gazan schools, universities, and libraries becomes almost total. As Rice University Professor Abdel Razzaq Takriti of Scholars Against the War on Palestine said about the Israeli assault: “They’re demolishing universities and schools intentionally. They bombarded and destroyed every single university. They’re using schools as barracks and military stations.” But another facet of scholasticide can be found in our own schools in the United States — erasing Palestinian lives and hiding the history of Palestine-Israel from young people.

Nonviolent Resistance In Palestine Is More Dangerous Than Ever

Oct. 7, 2023, became one of those days — like the Kennedy assassination or 9/11 — that many of us will never forget. We know where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news. On that Saturday morning, I was heading to the local weekly organic market in Bethlehem when I heard that Hamas had broken through the barrier around Gaza and entered Israel. I quickly drove home, turned on Al Jazeera, and started hearing the details of what was happening. I called my cousin in Gaza, where all my mother’s family lived, and begged him to find a way out. I knew this was going to be a disaster, but by then it was too late. The family was stuck.

Powerlessness

Let us begin with some facts of the cold, hard kind concerning conditions in Gaza and the West Bank after a year of terrorist Israel’s daily assaults on the Palestinian populations in both places. These statistics derive from a World Bank report issued this month, “Impacts of the Conflict in the Middle East on the Palestinian Economy.” They cover conditions through March; we can confidently conclude things have since worsened. “Eleven months into the conflict in the Middle East, the Palestinian territories are nearing economic freefall, amidst a historic humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip,” the report begins.

A Free State Of Palestine Is Inevitable; How Many Must Die First?

October 7, 2024 marks the first anniversary of the launch of Operation Al Aqsa Flood when members of the Palestinian resistance movement broke out of Gaza, known as the world's largest open air prison. The occupying state of Israel responded with a genocidal attack on Gaza that has since spread to the West Bank, Lebanon and other countries in the region that are acting in solidarity with Palestine. Clearing the FOG speaks with activist and author Miko Peled about the goals of Israel, what is happening in Palestine and West Asia and his new project, the Palestine House of Freedom, in Washington, DC. ‘A Time Of Painful Birth And Major Transformation’

Mousa Abu Marzouk is a Palestinian politician and senior member of Hamas who served as the first chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau from 1992 until 1996, and deputy chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau from January 1997 until April 2013, where he was succeeded by the late Ismail Haniyeh. Abu Marzouk has been a key figure in Palestinian politics and within the Hamas movement for decades, and continues to play a central role in the group’s politburo. The following interview was conducted via email between September 27 and October 3, 2024. The questions and answers are copied below exactly as they were written, except for minor typographical corrections.

US And Israel Are Pushing The World To The Brink Of WW III

Just short of one year since Israel’s criminal attack and invasion of the Gaza Strip and brutal bombardment and genocide of Palestine, the Zionist state committed yet another crime against humanity, on September 23, 2024. Israel carpet bombed Lebanon and assassinated the top leaders of the Resistance Front, including Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, the widely revered leader of Hezbollah, and brigadier general Abbas Nilforoushan, commander of Iran’s Quds Brigade in Lebanon, among others. Since the start of this criminal attack, Israel has continued to assassinate more leaders of the Hezbollah, including the organization’s communications chief, Mohammad Rashid Sakaf, on October 4.

The Meaning Of October 7

Israel’s murderous assault on the people of Gaza — over this past year — with the material, diplomatic and political support of the collective West — has been tantamount to witnessing a rabid dog ripping the flesh from the bones of what many had allowed themselves to believe was a world worth living in. At this point, it is not. Israel’s ongoing exercise in mad slaughter is of a piece with the rage unleashed by the slaveowner in response to recalcitrant slaves daring to break out of the plantation. And it is here where we understand the real “crime” of the Palestinians of Gaza – refusal to remain in the place accorded them by their colonizer and oppressor. That is, on their metaphoric knees, defeated and broken in mind, body and spirit.

United States Spending On Israel’s Military Operations

U.S. spending on Israel’s military operations and related U.S operations in the region total at least $22.76 billion and counting. This estimate is conservative; while it includes approved security assistance funding since October 7, 2023, supplemental funding for regional operations, and an estimated additional cost of operations, it does not include any other economic costs. This figure includes the $17.9 billion the U.S. government has approved in security assistance for Israeli military operations in Gaza and elsewhere since October 7 – substantially more than in any other year since the U.S. began granting military aid to Israel in 1959. Yet the report describes how this is only a partial amount of the U.S. financial support provided during this war.

US Jewish Institutions Are Purging Their Staffs Of Anti-Zionists

Dan Fischer had been working as a Hebrew and Jewish ethics teacher for three years at Sinai Synagogue in South Bend, Ind., when a television reporter asked him for comment during an “All Out for Palestine” rally held four days after October 7. “I am one of multiple Jews that are here today, proud to be in solidarity with the people of Gaza and Palestine,” Fischer said. “And I know that my tradition, the Jewish tradition, is a religion of tzedek, meaning justice, and shalom, meaning peace.” He was fired the next day. The synagogue sent a letter to the congregation saying it “had no choice but to release a teacher from his employment … effective immediately.”
