October 7th, The Election And Capitalist Crisis

So here we are in a very unusual situation where we are on the verge of a presidential election in just a few weeks and both candidates, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, pledge loyalty to Israel. Their only argument is who is more supportive of Israel. President Biden seems to be absent. We don't really know how involved he is, what role he's playing in these events, but one thing is certain, that Israel feels emboldened to do whatever it wants to do as we are one year from the Operation Al Aqsa Flood of October 7, 2023. So there's a lot going on. What are your overall observations about this moment?

Israel’s Genocide Day 370: Israel Strangles Northern Gaza

Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip have killed at least 184 Palestinians since last Tuesday, October 8, according to the Gaza branch of the Palestinian Health Ministry. On Thursday alone, 54 Palestinians were killed in multiple strikes, according to the Ministry’s daily report. Israel’s siege of parts of northern Gaza entered its sixth day on Thursday, sealing off Beit Lahia and Jabalia as the Israeli army launched a military invasion of the area, which houses an estimated 200,000 people. Analysts have considered Israel’s current operations in northern Gaza to be the first step in implementing the vision laid out by retired Israeli general Giora Eiland in an article he published in the early months of the war.

Israeli Forces In ‘Outrageous Threat’ To Irish UN Troops In Lebanon

An Irish-Israeli diplomatic crisis has been defused after Israel withdrew its invasion force from firing positions metres from a U.N. post in south Lebanon staffed by Irish peacekeepers. Irish President Michael D. Higgins had called Israeli demands for U.N. peacekeepers to abandon their posts as its invading army crossed deeper into Lebanese sovereign territory “an outrageous threat.” The incident underlined how Israel is increasingly alienating itself on the international stage while continuing to undermine institutions and instruments of international humanitarian law.

US Support For Israel’s War Crimes Is Bipartisan

Israel has received staunch bipartisan support from the Democratic and Republican Parties in Washington, as it brutally bombs Gaza; invades Lebanon; and attacks Iran, Syria, and Yemen. The Biden-Harris administration has sent Israel at least $17.9 billion in arms and military aid since October 2023. Meanwhile, UN experts say Israel is guilty of genocide, and Tel Aviv is being investigated by the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide. The International Criminal Court has also applied for arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of crimes against humanity, including “extermination” and “starvation of civilians as a method of warfare as a war crime”.

With US Support, Netanyahu Threatens Lebanon With Destruction

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 8 October called on the people of Lebanon to “free [their] country from Hezbollah,” threatening them with “destruction and suffering” if they refused to do so. “You have an opportunity to save Lebanon before it falls into the abyss of a long war that will lead to destruction and suffering like we see in Gaza. It doesn’t have to be that way,” Netanyahu said as his country’s air force continued to launch non-stop raids across Lebanon. “We have degraded Hezbollah’s capabilities; we took out thousands of terrorists, including [Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan] Nasrallah himself, and Nasrallah’s replacement, and the replacement of his replacement,” the Israeli premier added before calling on the people of Lebanon to “take back your country, and return it to a path of peace and prosperity.”

Biden Officials Say Ceasefire Talks Are Suspended

Biden officials have reportedly admitted that ceasefire negotiations amid Israel’s war on Lebanon and genocide in Gaza have been suspended, despite public insistence by high-powered figures within the administration that they are working around the clock for a ceasefire. The Biden administration has given up on ceasefire talks after first proposing a deal for a 21-day ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel just two weeks ago, CNN reports, citing U.S. officials. The U.S. is “not actively trying to revive the deal,” the outlet wrote.

Boston Coalition For Palestine Shuts Down Highway

Some 5,000 protesters turned out Oct. 6 on Boston Common in a massive show of support for Palestinian and Lebanese resistance to the genocidal Zionist state and its U.S. sponsor. Organized by the Boston Coalition for Palestine — whose 45 member organizations include Palestinian House of New England, Palestinian Youth Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace and Workers World Party — Sunday’s action observed the one-year anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Flood, when Hamas fighters broke out of besieged Gaza and attacked Israeli settlements on October 7, 2023. On that day, rally emcee Lea Kayali of the Palestinian Youth Movement explained the people of Gaza “broke down the prison doors” and exposed the weakness and complacency of the Zionist apartheid regime.

A Free State Of Palestine Is Inevitable; How Many Must Die First?

October 7, 2024 marks the first anniversary of the launch of Operation Al Aqsa Flood when members of the Palestinian resistance movement broke out of Gaza, known as the world's largest open air prison. The occupying state of Israel responded with a genocidal attack on Gaza that has since spread to the West Bank, Lebanon and other countries in the region that are acting in solidarity with Palestine. US And Israel Are Pushing The World To The Brink Of WW III

Just short of one year since Israel’s criminal attack and invasion of the Gaza Strip and brutal bombardment and genocide of Palestine, the Zionist state committed yet another crime against humanity, on September 23, 2024. Israel carpet bombed Lebanon and assassinated the top leaders of the Resistance Front, including Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, the widely revered leader of Hezbollah, and brigadier general Abbas Nilforoushan, commander of Iran’s Quds Brigade in Lebanon, among others. Since the start of this criminal attack, Israel has continued to assassinate more leaders of the Hezbollah, including the organization’s communications chief, Mohammad Rashid Sakaf, on October 4.

The United States And Israel Set Out To Remake The Middle East, Again

Twenty-two years ago, as the winds of war were gathering in Washington, there was a strong sense of not just rage but of over-confidence in the United States. The neoconservative movement was at the height of its influence, both in and outside of government. The world had rallied around the United States and its invasion of Afghanistan, in the wake of the September 11 attacks, and they had not yet realized that the invasion force was already sinking into what would become a twenty-year quagmire. The neocons argued that it was time to remake the Middle East according to the West’s vision. Ignoring the fact that the region’s problems stemmed in large measure from post-colonial conditions that traced their roots back to the Allied Powers’ decision to draw the region’s borders according to their colonial ambitions in the aftermath of World War I, they seized the opportunity to put their theories to the test.

Obstacle To The Occupation: The West Bank Frontline

After twelve months of failed deterrence, Israel’s image has been battered and bruised. Desperate to project strength, the occupation state has resorted to various aggressive measures, including threats of a ground invasion into Lebanon and the assassination of Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah. To the same end, aggression against the Palestinian resistance in Gaza has continued in parallel; While the occupation officially marked the end of the largest military incursion on the occupied enclave since the Second Intifada in early September, Israeli attention remains fixed on the West Bank, with renewed strikes on Tulkarem.

Netanyahu Declares ‘Obligation To Respond To Iran’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a recorded message on 5 October in which he pledged to strike back against Iran for its massive retaliatory attack that pummeled several Israeli military bases earlier this week. "Twice already, Iran has fired, and we have intercepted hundreds of missiles from the largest ballistic missile attack in history. No country in the world would have accepted such an attack, and neither will Israel, and we will respond to these attacks," the premier said as Israeli warplanes continued to rain down fire on civilian infrastructure across neighboring Lebanon.

What Are The Biden Administration’s Motivations In The Middle East?

Days after Israel began its attacks on Lebanon, Politico reported that White House officials had privately told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government that it would support his military push against Hezbollah. That push led to an Iranian missile attack on Israel, which Netanyahu has vowed to avenge. Once again, the region seems to be teetering on the verge of a large-scale war. Why is Biden administration supporting such actions and what does the U.S. hope to gain? Mondoweiss U.S. correspondent Michael Arria spoke with Mouin Rabbani, co-editor of Jadaliyya, and a non-resident fellow with the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies, about U.S. motivations in the region, Biden’s consistent support for Israel, and how the administration’s Iran policy has made things worse.

US-British Warplanes Launch Airstrikes Across Yemen

The United States and the United Kingdom launched joint airstrikes on different cities across Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, Hodeidah Dhamar, and Baidha governorates on Friday, October 4. According to Yemen’s Ansar Allah-run news network Almasirah, a series of US-UK airstrikes hit the Al-Siyanah military camp north of Sanaa, the airport and Al-Khathib areas west of Hodeidah city, several areas south of Dhamar, and Mukayras district southeast of Baidha. The US Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for the US forces in West Asia, wrote on X on Friday: “US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted strikes on 15 Houthi targets in Iranian-backed Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen today at about 5 pm (Sanaa time).

Israel’s Genocide Day 363: Israel Admits To Military Losses

The U.S. is discussing the nature of Israel’s response to Iran’s missile strikes last Tuesday, U.S. President Joe Biden said on Wednesday, adding that he does not support an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Biden’s remarks came a day after Iran launched a large missile attack against Israeli targets on Tuesday in response to Israel’s assassination of Hamas’s politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in late July, as well as the assassination of Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Hasan Nasrallah, and the Deputy Commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, Abbas Nilforushan, according to the IRGC.
