Nigeria In The Crosshairs: Separating Fact From Fiction

The US Continues Its Attempt To Overthrow The Bolivarian Revolution

Since early September, the United States has given every indication that it could be preparing for a military assault on Venezuela. Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research partnered with ALBA Movimientos, the International Peoples’ Assembly, No Cold War, and the Simón Bolívar Institute to produce red alert no. 20, ‘The Empire’s Dogs Are Barking at Venezuela’, on the potential scenarios and implications of US intervention. In February 2006, Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez travelled to Havana to receive the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s José Martí Prize from Fidel Castro. In his speech, he likened Washington’s threats against Venezuela to dogs barking, saying, ‘Let the dogs bark, because it is a sign that we are on the move’.

Sheinbaum To Trump: Mexico Will Not Accept Military Intervention

At a press conference Tuesday, Sheinbaum dismissed reports of a proposed US military operation against drug trafficking on Mexican soil and asserted her government would not permit it under any circumstances. “That’s not going to happen. We have no reports that that’s going to happen, and we disagree with it, and we’ve made that clear to President Trump,” the head of state said in response to a report published the previous day by NBC News. Sheinbaum recalled that both countries signed a bilateral agreement Sept. 3 following a meeting at the National Palace with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. She emphasized the deal is based on non-negotiable principles.

China Surprised The US: Round One Goes To Beijing

In this episode, KJ Noh joins India & Global Left to break down the real meaning of the recent Xi–Trump talks — beyond the headlines. We explore why China surprised the United States, why “Round One goes to Beijing,” and what leverage each side truly holds in this evolving geopolitical contest. We also look at the deeper strategic competition shaping U.S.–China relations, the power shifts happening underneath the diplomacy, and what this moment means for the future of the Global South as more countries seek autonomy, multipolarity, and alternatives to the Western-led order.

Summit Of The Americas Derailed Due To Tensions Caused By US

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic announced on Monday that the 10th Summit of the Americas, scheduled for early December, has been postponed due to deep regional differences that are hindering discussions. A new date was not provided. According to a statement, the decision followed a “detailed analysis of the political and social situation in the region” and was “reached in consensus with key partners, including the United States, the forum’s main driving force,” along with the secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), who supported the postponement.

It’s Open Season On Public Sector Workers

First Trump and Musk take a chainsaw to their ranks, then the Democrats, in effect, lock out those who still have jobs. Approximately 100,000 government employees have lost their jobs since Trump took over. If that wasn’t bad enough, now the Democrats, trying to show that they really aren’t wimps, have shut down the government. Seven hundred and thirty thousand public sector employees are working without pay while another 670,000 have been furloughed. Working people of all shades, shapes, and sizes are suffering collateral damage.

Workers Could Lose Out On Disability Benefits

It’s never been easy to qualify for Social Security disability benefits. Christopher Tincher knows this firsthand. Tincher began his working life in a coal mine in Aflex, Kentucky, as a teenager in the 1980s. As mines across the region shuttered, he turned to scraping grills at a Hardee’s, then cleaning office buildings at night, then stocking shelves and changing tires at a Walmart in Arkansas. Later, he was hired by a nearby town’s wastewater department. Often, he had to wade into sewage to fix equipment and clean out feces, needles and tampons entering the treatment facility. In 2017, some of that liquid got into his work boots, which didn’t fit properly and had caused blisters to form. It soaked into his flesh, infecting his right foot all the way to the bone. Doctors cut his leg off below the knee so the infection wouldn’t spread.

Trump Is Clearly Losing The Trade War With China, Which He Started

Donald Trump is losing the trade war against China, which he himself started. Trump held an important meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping in the South Korean city of Busan on 30 October. There, they came to a new agreement, which amounted to a one-year truce. The US government agreed to lift most of the punitive measures that it had imposed on China since April 2025, essentially bringing the situation back to what it was in January, when Trump entered office for his second term. Although this is not the end of the trade war, China clearly won this battle. The Financial Times (FT) noted that, “Unlike nearly 10 years ago, when Trump’s first trade offensive caught Beijing by surprise, this time a better prepared and economically more powerful China has been able to fight its once far mightier opponent to a standstill”.

Civil Society Should Be Resisting Trump’s Authoritarianism

This November, I’ll be standing outside the American Public Health Association’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., holding a sign that reads: “Ask me why I’m not allowed inside the APHA meeting.” After more than two decades as a member — serving as editorial board chair of the American Journal of Public Health, as an elected section chair, and as a governing councilor — APHA revoked my membership in September, stripped me of my elected leadership position, and banned me from attending meetings for two years. My offense? In November 2024, I participated in a protest at APHA’s Minneapolis meeting. Three dozen of us donned red latex gloves — signifying “blood on our hands” — and walked through the exhibit hall.

Trump Is Moving Relentlessly Toward Illegal War In Venezuela

As the Trump administration continues to murder people in small boats on the high seas and mounts the largest U.S. military buildup in decades in the Caribbean, it is moving inexorably toward an all-out, illegal attack and forcible regime change in Venezuela. Despite Team Trump’s feeble attempts to legally justify its ocean strikes, which have now killed 57 people since early September, those extrajudicial killings are also unlawful. Donald Trump’s murderous campaign came into focus on February 20, when the State Department designated eight drug trafficking organizations, including Tren de Aragua, as foreign terrorist organizations.

How Libertarian Javier Milei Is Selling Argentina To Wall Street

The United States is propping up Argentina’s failing libertarian President Javier Milei and his ultra-neoliberal “anarcho-capitalist” experiment with $82 billion in debt. In fact, Trump basically bought Milei a victory in the October 2025 legislative midterm elections with this money. It was a successful US form of election meddling. People in Argentina now say openly that Milei is turning their country into a “colony of the US”. The US empire has clearly ensnared Argentina in a devastating debt trap. Milei has gleefully overseen the abrogation of his nation’s sovereignty, while cynically portraying himself as a “rebel”.

Major American LNG Exporters Habitually Break Air Pollution Laws

During the past five years, all seven of the fully operational LNG export terminals in the U.S. violated the Clean Air Act, America’s cornerstone law on air pollution, a new report from the Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) finds. The report comes as the Trump administration has moved to accelerate the approval of new export terminals to sell more U.S. LNG around the world, particularly to Asia and Europe. Several major terminals rarely, if ever, managed to spend a full quarter in compliance with environmental laws over the past three years, the report found.

National Guard Members: ‘I Won’t Turn Against My Neighbors’

Chicago — Two Illinois National Guard members told CBS News they would refuse to obey federal orders to deploy in Chicago as part of President Trump's controversial immigration enforcement mission — a rare act of open defiance from within the military ranks. "It's disheartening to be forced to go against your community members and your neighbors," said Staff Sgt. Demi Palecek, a Latina guardswoman and state legislative candidate from Illinois's 13th District. "It feels illegal. This is not what we signed up to do." Both Palecek and Capt. Dylan Blaha, who is running for Congress in the same district, described growing unease among Guard members after the White House federalized 500 troops.

US Deploys Aircraft Carrier And Threatens Invasion Of Venezuela

As the US continues to escalate threats and military pressure against Venezuela and now Colombia as well. On Friday, October 24, “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth announced the deployment of aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), to the Caribbean. The most capable and lethal strike platform in the world adds to the already massive military buildup in the Caribbean of 10,000 US troops, at least eight war ships, P-8 surveillance planes, and F-35 jets deployed amid the Trump administration’s alleged counter-narcotics operations. US troops are also reportedly deploying to Trinidad and Tobago, mere miles from Venezuela, for five days of coordinated “military exercises”.

Dallas Residents On The Front Lines Of Trump’s War Against ‘Antifa’

On the night of July 4, 2025, Meagan Morris and Autumn Hill departed the Dallas home they shared with several others to go to an immigrant solidarity protest. This was no small thing for either of the two housemates. A 41-year-old transgender woman, Meagan had been out of work since her collapsed neck vertebrae forced her to leave her job at UPS. Autumn had little political experience save for volunteering for a local nonprofit and once marching in a Pride parade. But with the Trump administration conducting violent immigration raids across the country in service of Trump’s mass deportation agenda, both Morris and Autumn Hill wanted to head to Alvarado for a “noise demo” outside the 700-bed Prairieland Detention Center.
