Democrats Who Say They Want A Ceasefire Vote For More Military Aid

“We rally, we march, and we continue to fight like hell for our rights!,” wrote the organizers in a social media post. “The Democratic Party has funneled billions of dollars to support a genocide that Israel is committing on the Palestinian people with our tax dollars and the people say no more! No more money for bombs and war, we want our money to go to free education, housing, and healthcare! We want justice for all of our communities all across the United States and we will fight for it until we get it!” Mondoweiss spoke with Lara Haddadin, who has been an organizer with the U.S. Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) since 2019, about the march, the ongoing protests, and the policies of the Democratic party.

The DNC Fiddles While The World Burns

An Orwellian disconnect haunts the 2024 Democratic National Convention. In the isolation of the convention hall, shielded from the outside world behind thousands of armed police, few of the delegates seem to realize that their country is on the brink of direct involvement in major wars with Russia and Iran, either of which could escalate into World War III. Inside the hall, the mass slaughter in the Middle East and Ukraine are treated only as troublesome “issues,” which “the greatest military in the history of the world” can surely deal with. Delegates who unfurled a banner that read “Stop Arming Israel” during Biden’s speech on Monday night were quickly accosted by DNC officials, who instructed other delegates to use “We Joe” signs to hide the banner from view.

As DNC Kicks Off, Palestine Solidarity Activists Look To 1964 For Inspiration

As the Democratic National Convention (DNC) begins, and with Israel’s ongoing destruction of Gaza fracturing the party’s coalition, the echoes of 1968 are hard to miss. That year, against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, protests erupted outside the DNC in Chicago, while tensions flared inside the convention. The nation saw a Democratic party in disarray. With mass protests occurring over Gaza at this year’s DNC — again, held in Chicago — the 1968 comparisons are apt. But there is another historical example also worth remembering. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the 1964 DNC in Atlantic City where, famously, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP), a grassroots party fighting for racial justice, sent a delegation to demand that they, not the all-white “regular” delegation, be seated as Mississippi’s true representatives.

Kamala Harris In Her Own Words

Voters in the United States who feel compelled to choose between political duopoly presidential candidates are once again faced with two terrible choices. Donald Trump is the known quantity, a former president and a man of very limited intelligence. So much so that he recently confused Willie Brown with Jerry Brown . He is unsuited for anything other than what he did most of his life, promote himself as a business success when his companies filed for bankruptcy on six occasions . In 2016 he rallied white peoples’ feelings of grievance, pretended to be a champion of working people and won an electoral college vote due to his opponent’s arrogance and incompetence.

Voters Are Sending A Clear Message Ahead Of The DNC

As Democrats prepare for their National Convention in Chicago next week, anti-genocide protesters and advocates are gearing up to meet them there. While Democratic leaders hope to demonstrate unusual party unity at the Convention, the yawning gap between those leaders and most Democratic voters—especially the key sectors of young voters, progressives, Muslim- and Arab-Americans—stands in the way of that unity. Democratic policy toward Palestine is not the only problematic issue in the Democrats’ policy book, but it’s a prominent one. Neither Vice President Kamala Harris nor her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, has demonstrated any commitment to changing that policy despite its manifest failure and its unpopularity among Democratic voters.

You’re With Her, But Is She With You?

Over the past few weeks, the lack of fervor for Democrats surrounding the 2024 election has changed dramatically. President Biden has stepped aside and Vice President Kamala Harris has taken over as the presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee. According to her campaign, within 36 hours of President Biden announcing his withdrawal, Vice President Harris raised more than $100 million, including $81 million in the first 24 hours. A record number of organizations run by and in support of African American women joined a “Win With Black Women” call to focus on a new future for voter mobilization.

My Thoughts On Biden Dropping Out

Joe Biden was discarded by the same billionaire class he assiduously served throughout his political career. Barely able to stumble his way through the words on a TelePrompter and not always cognizant of what is happening around him, his billionaire supporters pulled the plug. He was their creature – he has been in federal office for 47 years – from start to finish. He was used as a foil to defeat Bernie Sanders in the 2020 primaries and was anointed as the candidate in 2024 in a Soviet-style primary campaign. The billionaire class will now anoint someone else. Democratic Party voters are stage props in this political farce.

We’re Still Marching For Palestine At The Democratic National Convention

Genocide Joe Biden has stepped down from running for president as the Democratic Party nominee. His decision doesn't change the policies of Democratic Party leadership, specifically their support of the genocide in Palestine, so our movement must continue to apply pressure. On August 19 we will march on the DNC for Gaza regardless of who gets nominated for the presidency. Democratic Party leadership switching out their presidential nominee does not wash the blood of over 50,000 Palestinians off their hands. Biden’s entire administration, together with high-ranking members of the Democratic Party from all over the country, spent the last ten months wholeheartedly supporting the genocide in Gaza with our tax dollars.

Kamala Harris’s Distinguished Career Of Serving Injustice

Sen. Kamala Harris is rising in the polls after dramatically confronting former Vice President Joe Biden during the Democratic primary debate about his opposition to federally mandated busing for desegregation. The following week, however, Harris backed away from saying that busing should always be federally mandated, calling it just one “tool that is in the toolbox” for school districts to use. When asked to clarify whether she would support federal mandates for busing, she said: “I believe that any tool that is in the toolbox should be considered by a school district.” But Biden’s poll numbers are falling as a result of Harris’s theatrical attack.

Statement On Attempted Trump Assassination

The assassination of Trump would not remove the yearning of tens of millions of people, many conditioned by the Christian right, for a cult leader. Most of the leaders of the Christian right have built cult followings of their own. These Christian fascists embraced magical thinking, attacked their enemies as agents of Satan and denounced reality-based science and journalism long before Trump did. Cults are a product of social decay and despair, and our decay and despair are expanding, soon to explode in another financial crisis. The efforts by the Democratic Party and much of the press, including CNN and The New York Times, to discredit Trump, as if our problems are embodied in him, are futile.

Biden Or Not, US Policy On Palestine Stays The Same

With four months left until the elections in the United States, other issues are falling off the media radar. One might think that the genocide in Gaza had ended, as the coverage of it in mainstream media has fallen off dramatically. But Israel has been escalating its attacks, openly targeting schools, dropping bombs on children playing soccer, and moving hundreds of thousands of largely homeless Palestinians from one place to another and bombing all of it. Meanwhile, American attention has moved inward, debating whether or not the obvious mental incapacity of a man who holds the most powerful position in the world is disqualifying while his full partnership in a genocide of stunning magnitude is not.

Biden: ‘I’m Running The World’

About midway through what was billed as the most consequential interview of Joe Biden’s political career, he uttered the most consequential words in the interview: “I am running the world.” Those five words explain why he refuses to withdraw from the race and confirm what most Americans deny, but which most of the world knows: U.S. presidents act as world emperors.  The interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos was supposed to be Biden’s chance to show the country he is mentally fit to remain in the presidency and run for a second term, at the end of which, if he is still alive, he’d be 86 years old.

Analyzing The Biden/Trump Debate And The 2024 Electoral Process

The plan basically, is to persuade Biden to step down. If he doesn't, there is going to be a messy open convention, where he will end up probably losing the delegates that he has now pledged to him. So there is no plan at all. But what the result of this non plan is that the Democrats look awfully weak, and it was guaranteed really before the debate that Trump was going to win. Because the main elements of the capitalist class have basically decided that they were going to go with Trump. That's why the funding has shifted already. So no, it's almost guaranteed that this fumbling around is going to assure that Trump will be in fact, the next President of the United States of America.

Anti-Trump Anxiety Ignores History

With President Joe Biden’s poll numbers tanking, American liberals are doubling down on what they apparently consider the best hope for his re-election: a strategy that relies heavily on whipping up fears of a dictatorship led by Donald Trump — warning that he would not only trample constitutional rights but likely imprison his political opponents. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) recently raised this specter on a podcast called “On with Kara Swisher,” openly fretting that President Trump would throw her in jail if he wins the November election. “I mean, it sounds nuts,” she said, “but I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy threw me in jail.”

What’s Next For The Uncommitted Campaign?

Primary season is coming to a close as we move closer to the presidential election. In recent months, thousands of voters have flocked to the polls to vote “Uncommitted,” a symbol of their displeasure with Biden’s support for Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza. That electoral push was birthed out of a Listen to Michigan campaign with a small budget and little time. In that state, more than 104,000 people voted Uncommitted. The subsequent national effort has earned the movement almost 40 delegates at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Where does the movement go from here and what happens to it after November?
