No More ‘Deals’: What Palestinians Want And Will Fight To Achieve

A major problem in American thinking in the Middle East is the utter rejection of the notion that Palestinian rights are fundamental, if at all relevant, to the coveted peace and stability. Long before Donald Trump’s first ‘Deal of the Century’ was officially revealed on January 28, 2020, successive US administrations attempted to ‘stabilize’ the Middle East at the expense of Palestinians. Earlier plans, or deals, rested on the premise of total marginalization of the Palestinian people and their cause. They included the Roger Plan of 1969 and Roger Plan II in the early 70s, which culminated in the Camp David Accords later that same decade.

Israel’s Genocide Day 419: Conditions For Survival Are ‘Diminishing’

The UN agency for the relief of Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, said on Thursday that survival conditions are diminishing for 60,000 to 70,000 remaining Palestinians in the north of Gaza, as the Israeli siege of the area enters its 55th day. The UNRWA added that Israeli forces have obstructed 82 attempts by the UN to deliver aid to the north of Gaza in the past month, and rejected nine petitions to be allowed to deliver aid in the area where 700,000 Palestinians lived before October 7 of last year. The Israeli siege and bombing campaign in the north of Gaza that started in early October was coupled with raids into shelter centers and forcing people to leave.

Death In The Bekaa Valley

On Thursday evening news came through that we had at long last gained the full list of approvals required to travel to report outside Beirut; we were cleared by the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Defence, and the local authorities. Laith Marouf of Free Palestine TV called me and suggested we go down together on Friday to the southern capital of Nabatieh, which has been enduring heavy bombing. I asked Laith to give me half an hour, and did some quick research. Nabatieh is about 12 miles from the Israeli border and has been devastated by Israeli bombing attacks. In the South of the country some 70,000 homes have been destroyed.

US Response To ICC Netanyahu Warrant Could Deal Death Blow To International Law

The International Criminal Court’s (ICC) stunning issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity is a major game changer. After years of impunity, the chickens unleashed by Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza have finally come home to roost. These charges against Netanyahu and Gallant are momentous. This is the first time the ICC has issued arrest warrants against an Israeli official for crimes against the Palestinian people. It is only the second time in its 22 years of existence that the ICC has issued an arrest warrant for someone who is not from the African continent.

Israel’s genocide Day 416: Minimal Food Aid Allowed Into Gaza

Israel and Lebanon are very close to concluding a ceasefire deal, claimed Israeli reports on Monday, after two days of intense fire exchange between Hezbollah and the Israeli army over the weekend. On Monday, the Israeli ambassador to the US told the Israeli army’s radio that Israel was close to reaching a ceasefire deal with Lebanon within days, while the Israeli minister of immigration told the same radio station that ceasefire talks with Lebanon reached advanced stages. These Israeli reports came as the Israeli daily Israel Hayom reported that Netanyahu held a meeting with key ministers in his cabinet late on Sunday

Students Who Protested Gaza Genocide Face Felony Mob Charges

Pre-trial hearings for students who participated in a Gaza solidarity encampment in central Illinois last spring are being held on November 20 and December 4, 2024. The outcome of the four students’ trials will determine whether they will risk up to three years of incarceration on felony “mob action” charges for having exercised their free speech rights on campus. The students from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) — one of the largest public universities in the country — constructed an encampment known as the Popular University for Gaza in April 2024, after months of Israel’s relentless slaughter of Palestinians, mirroring dozens of other student-led sites across the United States.

Escalation Of Wars In Ukraine And The Mideast

Two wars, dragging humanity into despair and existential peril, have in the past week sunk to levels difficult to comprehend. The danger of a nuclear confrontation between Russia and the West over Ukraine has been theoretically with us for nearly three years, but last week it took on terrifyingly concrete form. And in the metastasizing wars in the Middle East, which carry their own more distant atomic threat, the genocidal rage of an unbalanced Israel spread deeper into Lebanon, while all-out war with Iran simmers; the ethnic cleansing of at least the North of Gaza is no longer denied in the Israeli press, and much of the world’s patience with the Zionist state ran out as its prime minister was indicted by an international criminal court never intended to pursue Western and allied leaders.

Massachusetts Institute Of Technology Targeting Pro-Palestine Activists

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has taken severe measures to suppress the voices of two prominent pro-Palestine activists on campus: PhD student Prahlad Iyengar and Dr. Michel DeGraff, a professor who has taught linguistics at the university for over 28 years. Iyengar has been banned from campus, which is also his place of work, without due process. He has also been denied union representation by MIT’s administration, despite himself being a union steward. He faces imminent threat of suspension as well as expulsion. MIT prohibited Dr. Degraff from teaching a course on Palestine, suspended his annual pay raise, and had his official status at the university changed from “Professor of Linguistics” to “Faculty-at-Large,” also without due process.

Turkish Activists Pressure Erdogan To Do More Against Israel

A group of Turkish activists has been staging a sit-in for over 75 days outside Istanbul's Port of Haydarpasa to protest against the government’s decision to block an aid vessel from departing for Gaza. Organised by the Mavi Marmara Freedom and Solidarity Association, the demonstrations began after the Turkish port authorities barred the association from entering the harbour and accessing their aid boat, dubbed the Conscience. “This decision is a disgrace in the country’s maritime history,” said the association’s chairman, Behesti Ismail Songur.

West Splits On Israel: US threatens ICC And Allies Over Arrest Warrant

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. This historic decision has led to a political split in the West. The European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia have expressed support for the ICC. On the other hand, the United States is openly attacking the ICC and threatening to impose sanctions. US President Joe Biden blasted the ICC’s charges as “outrageous”. The White House said it “fundamentally rejects” the Court’s order.

Israel’s Genocide Day 412: Israel Kills 87 Palestinians In Gaza

Israeli forces killed nine Palestinians in a military raid on Jenin that lasted more than 48 hours between Wednesday and Thursday. Local residents told Mondoweiss that Israeli forces entered the industrial area in Jenin late night Wednesday and headed towards the city’s refugee camp, where they clashed with Palestinian fighters. The Israeli army also took over several rooftops and installed snipers on the refugee camp’s perimeter. Shortly before the start of the invasion of the refugee camp, Israeli forces raided the village of Kufr Dan, to the west of Jenin city, where the Palestinian Red Crescent said that its teams treated a Palestinian man wounded by a live bullet in the chest.

ICC Issues Arrest Warrants For Netanyahu And Gallant

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued on 21 November arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes in Gaza, in a landmark move coming several months after the court’s top prosecutor filed applications for their arrest. “Today … Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (‘Court’), in its composition for the Situation in the State of Palestine, unanimously issued two decisions rejecting challenges by the State of Israel (‘Israel’) brought under articles 18 and 19 of the Rome Statute (the ‘Statute’).

White House Sabotages Senate Vote To Block Israel Arms Sales

The US government is lobbying Democratic senators to vote against legislation that would halt $20 billion worth of arms sales to Israel, according to US officials who spoke with the Times of Israel on 20 November. “Biden aides have argued that the weapons in question are essential for Israel’s defense and won’t be delivered for another year or two, ‘so the likelihood of them being used in this iteration of the Gaza context is very low,’” the Israeli daily cites the sources as saying, adding that officials from the White House, State Department, and Pentagon have reached out to “various lawmakers on the fence about how they might vote.”

United Nations Security Council Votes On Draft Ceasefire Resolution

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will vote on a draft resolution calling for an "immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire to be respected by all parties in the Gaza Strip, informed sources told Al Mayadeen. Informed sources explained that the draft resolution reiterates the Council’s demand for the "immediate and unconditional release" of all captives and rejects "any effort to starve the Palestinian population." The resolution also calls for "immediate access to essential services and humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza, facilitating the wide-scale entry and delivery of humanitarian assistance, including to civilians in the besieged north Gaza."

Protests At Weapons Companies Expose Canada’s Involvement In F-35s

On Saturday November 16, hundreds of people gathered outside 16 factories and facilities across the country to expose Canada’s involvement in the production and maintenance of the F-35 fighter jets that are devastating Gaza and Lebanon, and to demand that Canada impose an immediate, two-way arms embargo on Israel. Each targeted company produces components of Lockheed Martin’s flagship war plane, which Israel is using to drop 2000 lb bombs on residential neighborhoods, schools, and refugee camps in what is already the most destructive bombing campaign of the twenty-first century.
