NEA Educators For Palestine Call On Union To Un-Endorse Biden

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Hundreds of educators held a pro-Palestine rally outside the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia on July 3. They were participating in the National Education Association Representative Assembly, where they planned to introduce 10 New Business items (NBIs) involving education around Palestine, U.S. military spending in support of Israel, support for boycotts targeting Israel  and solidarity with Palestinian unions and with teachers in the U.S. engaged in protests against the genocide in Gaza. The rally was called by NEA Educators for Palestine, who are also pushing the U.S.’s largest teachers’ union to hold a secret ballot vote to rescind its endorsement of President Joe Biden.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 276: Netanyahu Attempts To Sabotage Ceasefire Proposal

Indirect negotiations have resumed between Israel and Hamas in Doha, Qatar, based on the amended U.S. proposed ceasefire deal. Israeli media reported that Netanyahu was set to meet military and security officials on Sunday for “limited” consultancy on the talks. Israeli public broadcasting also reported that the heads of various intelligence agencies would meet on Wednesday to discuss the talks, including CIA head William Burns, head of Egyptian intelligence Abbas Kamel, the Israeli Mossad’s David Barnea, and Qatar’s Prime Minister and minister of foreign affairs, Mohammad Ben Abdel Rahman Al-Thani.

Gaza Death Toll Could Reach Half A Million

Israel's assault on Gaza could lead to between 149,000 and 598,000 Palestinian deaths if it were to end immediately, as estimated by experts for The Lancet. The medical journal published a research correspondence between physicians and public health experts on 5 July on the difficulty of accounting for the number of those killed by Israel's war on Gaza, highlighting that both direct and indirect deaths should be considered. The Gaza Health Ministry has reported over 38,000 Palestinians killed since the beginning of the war. But counting the dead and injured has become increasingly difficult for the ministry as the war drags on, now entering its tenth month, the contributors wrote.

American Military Crisis: Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson Speaks Out

It is clear to at least half the world, some four billion people, that the United States is not the power that it once was… Our reputation is in tatters in the world.” That is what retired U.S. Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson told MintCast host Mnar Adley today. “When you talk about history and the history of empire in particular, what you find are examples of precisely what is happening to us today,” Wilkerson added, noting, in particular, the fall of the Western Roman and Persian empires and how, after they began to teeter, their leadership started to reinforce failures in military operations, in diplomacy and foreign policy in general.

Netanyahu Goes For Broke

It is a matter of record that the Zionist project has had extensive territorial designs on the lands known as Palestine since at least the early 20th century. As others have argued, the Israelis’ openly racist assault on the Palestinians of Gaza is to be understood not as a sudden eruption of violence, a departure, but as an especially savage continuation of Zionist conduct for more than a century. When history is brought to bear in this fashion, it becomes increasingly apparent that the invasion of Gaza since the events of last Oct. 7 ought not be seen in isolation. The more pathologically disturbed members of Benjamin Netanyahu’s freak-show regime — notably, but not only, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben–Givr, the finance and national security ministers — have never been shy on this point.

Internal Dissent: US Military And Government Officials Demand Ceasefire

Members of the US military, inspired by the actions of Aaron Bushnell and Larry Hebert, have launched a campaign with Veterans for Peace, Appeal to Redress V2, to encourage other active duty military to contact Congress and demand a ceasefire in Palestine. And, 12 government officials who resigned over US policy in Gaza, Palestine and Israel released a statement just before the Fourth of July on the conditions in Gaza and steps that the US government must take to end the genocide in Palestine and repression of dissent at home. Clearing the FOG speaks with a Sargent, who wishes to remain anonymous, and Alex Smith, a former USAID employee who specializes in maternal and child health and international law.

BlackRock And Wall Street Banks Profit From Israel’s Crimes In Gaza

Top UN human rights experts have called on Western weapons corporations to stop sending arms to Israel, arguing they could be complicit in war crimes. UN experts also warned that asset managers like BlackRock and Wall Street banks may be profiting from Israel’s brutal war on Gaza. This was stated in a press release published by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). “The transfer of weapons and ammunition to Israel may constitute serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian laws and risk State complicity in international crimes, possibly including genocide, UN experts said today, reiterating their demand to stop transfers immediately”, the press release said.

Hundreds Protest NATO Summit, Hold Counter-Summit

Washington D.C. – On July 6 and 7, the Resist NATO coalition, formed by more than sixty anti-war, human rights, and diasporic grassroots organizations from across the U.S., held its own conference, rallied, and marched to protest the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit in Washington D.C. The coalition highlighted the role of NATO as the largest U.S.-led military alliance and its function to promote wars of aggression, increased militarization in the Indo-Pacific and across the globe, sanctions, cyberwarfare, and surveillance on people's organizations.  NATO’s 75th summit is occurring during the ongoing war in Ukraine in response to U.S.-NATO military escalation and territorial expansion, which has emboldened NATO to call on its members to provide billions in weapons and military aid.

Anti-NATO Protest In London: Ceasefire Now In Gaza, Ukraine And Yemen

Activists from International Ukraine Anti Fascist Solidarity once again joined the national Gaza solidarity protest in London on Saturday July 6 to demand ceasefires in Gaza, Ukraine and Yemen, and an end to Western arms deliveries to Ukraine. Many protesters stopped to take pictures of the posters, and The response from those on the march, who were calling on the British government to support an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and an end to arms exports to Israel (Yes – Britain is STILL sending weapons to Israel) which was very enthusiastic and 100% positive. Many of the protesters are aware of the connections between these different wars, but have not seen them clearly stated before.

‘Operation al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 272: Israelis Urge Acceptance Of Ceasefire

The Israeli Mossad and the office of Israel’s Prime Minister announced on Wednesday that mediators in the ceasefire talks gave Israel Hamas’s response to the U.S.-amended ceasefire proposal. Benjamin Netanyahu is set to head a cabinet meeting later on Thursday to discuss Hamas’s response. Meanwhile, Israel’s Channel 12 quoted a high-ranking Israeli official saying that Hamas’s response “for the first time allows for making progress in negotiations.” For its part, the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot reported that the heads of Israel’s security forces were “angry at the attempts of Netanyahu and Smotrich to sabotage the deal,” pointing accusations at Netanyahu of obstructing communication channels with mediators beforehand.

Statement Of US Government Officials Who Resigned Over Policy Toward Gaza, Palestine And Israel

We are former U.S. Government Officials who resigned from our respective positions over the last nine months due to our grave concerns with current U.S. policy towards the crisis in Gaza, and U.S. policies and practices towards Palestine and Israel more broadly. We are subject matter experts representing the interagency, and are a multifaith and multiethnic community of professionals and patriots dedicated to the service of the United States of America, its people, and its values. Whether in the civil service, foreign service, armed forces, or as political appointees, each of us has sworn an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and as our nation celebrates its Independence Day, each of us are reminded that we resigned from government not to terminate that oath but to continue to abide by it; not to end our commitment to service, but to extend it.

July 24: No Free Speech For War Criminal Benjamin Netanyahu!

July 24 is a moment for which the whole movement should begin considering, planning and strategizing for mass actions, shut-downs, stay-aways, sit-ins, walkouts, traffic blocks, work stoppages, strikes and more. In every city of the U.S. and internationally we have a responsibility to denounce Netanyahu’s address to Congress. This is an event designed to normalize and give an embrace to Israeli apartheid. We encourage every group and individual of conscience to think about what can be done collectively on July 24. This is a moment for breaking ranks with the genocidal established order. There is a protest already called at the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C., on July 24. We hope this will be as large as possible and encourage anyone who is able to go to D.C.

Short On ‘Munitions, Motivation, And Troops,’ Israeli Army Wants Gaza Truce

Israeli army leaders are privately pushing for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, describing it as the “best way” to recover over 100 captives and to “reach a deal with Hezbollah” that would prevent the expansion of the war, according to six current and former security officials who spoke on condition of anonymity to the New York Times (NYT). The top generals reportedly fear being dragged into a “forever war” by a political echelon that has repeatedly sabotaged attempts at reaching a ceasefire deal. According to the officials who spoke with the NYT, the “army is short of spare parts, munitions, motivation, and even troops.”

Third Biden Administration Appointee Resigns Over Gaza Policy

In 2020, Maryam Hassanein cast her vote for Joe Biden in the first presidential election she was old enough to vote in, believing he represented “hope” and an opportunity for “justice for Muslim Americans and for marginalized communities as a whole.” On Tuesday, Hassanein became the latest member of the Biden administration to publicly resign over the president’s policies on the Gaza war — and the youngest known to resign to date, at age 24. “I learned that even though the agency I work for doesn’t produce foreign policy, serving in the administration in any capacity essentially makes you complicit in the genocide of the Palestinians,” Hassanein told HuffPost of her resignation from the Interior Department, which has not previously been made public.

Gaza Blowback: A Crisis Of Conscience In The Military Can Impact Foreign Policy

The unprecedented live-streamed violence in Gaza has forced a crisis of conscience for many government employees. From the State Department to the military, individuals have taken rebellious action to remove themselves from participating in a blazingly obvious campaign of controlled famine and collective punishment. Tonight on State of Play, we interview two conscientious objectors from the United States Air Force and reflect on military retention rates, the recruiting crisis, and the lessening of military capacity due to increasingly unpopular foreign policy actions. Will the younger generation’s lack of jingoistic zeal be a potential brake for US belligerence?
