Unidentified Drones Circle Sumud Flotilla En Route To Gaza

The International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza (ICBSG) said on 21 September that unidentified drones have flown over the Global Sumud Flotilla, with some passing unusually close to the vessels. The group described the activity on Facebook as an “unusual level of drone activity causing concerns.” Volunteers on board confirmed they are preparing for the possibility of Israeli interception, holding nighttime drills as the ships entered the so-called “yellow zone” south of Greece, where Israeli attacks are considered increasingly likely. Organizers said the training focused on nonviolent responses should Israeli forces storm the flotilla as they did with the previous two missions to Gaza.

Israeli Foreign Ministry Says It Won’t Allow Aid Flotilla To Break Blockade

The Israeli Foreign Ministry on Monday issued a threat to the Global Sumud Flotilla, which is attempting to break Israel’s starvation siege on Gaza, warning that it wouldn’t allow the boats to breach the Israeli blockade. The Israeli Foreign Ministry has also labeled the flotilla as “Hamas,” suggesting that Israel may target the boats with military strikes. Earlier this month, two of the boats came under drone attack while they were in port in Tunisia, causing fires and damage but no injuries to the crew. “Statement Regarding the Hamas Flotilla (‘Sumud’): This flotilla, organized by Hamas, is intended to serve Hamas,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry wrote on X. “Israel will not allow vessels to enter an active combat zone and will not allow the breach of a lawful naval blockade.”

Mask Off, Maersk

In a monumental victory for the Palestinian liberation movement, one of the world’s largest integrated logistics and shipping companies, A.P. Moller-Maersk (or Maersk, for short) announced it would halt its transport and business in illegal Israeli settlements, “following a recent review of transports related to the West Bank.” The announcement follows a number of reports released revealing their involvement in the weapons trade and genocide of the Palestinian people. This announcement marks not only an unprecedented victory for the movement but also the making of the successful “Mask Off Maersk” campaign that began at last year’s People’s Conference for Palestine, when the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) launched a transnational people’s arms embargo against the Copenhagen-based company.

Teachers And Unions Fight Back As US Campuses Prepare To Fuel Witch Hunt

Outrage flared last week about the University of California’s capitulation to this era’s resurgent McCarthyism, as news spread that the university has provided the names of at least 160 students, faculty members, and staff at the University of California, Berkeley, to federal officials who — under the guise of investigating “alleged antisemitic incidents” — are scrutinizing people who have expressed opposition to Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Judith Butler, a UC Berkeley philosophy professor and Jewish critic of the Israeli government, said in a recent interview with Democracy Now!, “There is no good evidence that antisemitism is rampant on campus,” adding, “To take a position against genocide is certainly not an antisemitic thing to do.

Israel Is Committing Genocide In Gaza, UN Commission Says

A United Nations commission has conclusively stated that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people. This genocide has had the full support of the United States, under both Donald Trump and Joe Biden. In fact, since October 2023, the US government has vetoed six resolutions in the UN Security Council that called for peace in Gaza. The latest example was on 18 September, when 14 of the 15 members of the Security Council voted for a resolution that demanded a ceasefire and the release of all hostages. The United States was the only country that opposed it, and Washington has veto power, so it killed the measure.

Global Sumud Flotilla Enters Crucial Phase En Route To Gaza

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission, now sailing in international waters near Greece before heading to Gaza, has entered its most crucial phase, described as the decisive moment of the entire movement within the coming week. Founder of Cinta Salam Malaysia (CSM), Ahmad Musa Al-Nuwayri Kamaruzaman, who is part of the mission, said the GSF vessel was currently en route to gather with other ships participating in the effort. Ahmad Musa, who is aboard the vessel Alma, said it was expected to arrive near Greece in the next two days. "In fact, the distance from Greece is very close to Gaza. I asked the chief executive officer of Cinta Gaza Malaysia, Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman, and he said it may take another four to five days from Greece before reaching Gaza.

As Israel Faces Increasing Isolation, BDS Becomes More Crucial

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent the Israeli stock market into a fall by doing what he so often does: saying the quiet part out loud. The market rebounded, as it always does from these sorts of brief panics. But Netanyahu and Israel in general are finally being forced to grapple with some of the real, long-term consequences of their actions. Netanyahu told a group of American and Israeli business people at the “Fifty States, One Israel” conference (a name that, itself, inspires many associations of Israel being the fifty-first U.S. state, but also shows Israel’s permanent inability to truly stand alone): “…I am a devotee of the free market, but we’ll have to have some signs of an autarky…We’ll need to develop weapons industries here. We’re going to be Athens and super Sparta. Over the next few years, we’ll have no other choice. We’ll have to defend ourselves and know how to attack our enemies…We need to cut back the bureaucracy in a draconian fashion.

Israel’s Qatar Attack Rattles The Gulf

The Israeli attack on Qatar on Sept. 9 has undermined the very foundations of the security arrangement between the United States and the Gulf monarchies. Since the 1980’s Iran-Iraq war, Washington conditioned its military commitment to the region on Gulf rulers granting the U.S. greater access to their territories — even if that meant compromising sovereignty. In return, the Gulf countries expected U.S. protection against external threats. Rulers poured billions into constructing American military bases, often at their own expense, and tolerated the political risks of inviting foreign troops into their lands. Initially, Gulf regimes were reluctant to display such ties openly, fearing popular opposition, especially during the heyday of Arab nationalism.

UC Berkeley Hands Over Private Staff And Student Information For Trump’s ‘Antisemitism’ Probe

The University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) has provided the federal government with the private information of more than 150 students, staff, and faculty. The move comes in response to the Trump administration’s investigation into alleged campus antisemitism, which is widely viewed as a means to crack down on campus Palestine activism. The Daily Californian reports that the school’s Office of Legal Affairs sent emails to those impacted on September 4. “As part of its investigation, OCR required production of comprehensive documents, including files and reports related to alleged antisemitic incidents,” the email read.

Top US Firm Ends Contract With Israel To Whitewash Gaza War Crimes

US public affairs giant SKDK has ended a $600,000 contract with the Israeli government that “promoted Israel’s perspective” about the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, according to POLITICO. “SKDK stopped this work on Aug. 31 and has begun the process of de-registering,” a spokesperson for SKDK told the DC-based magazine, declining to comment on the reasons why the contract was cut short early, saying only that the work “had run its course.” According to POLITICO, the contract between Tel Aviv and SKDK was expected to run until March 2026. The announcement followed a report by Sludge on 15 September that said the firm was involved in a bot program to boost pro-Israel content online.

Independent Probe For United Nations Says Israel Commits Genocide

In a new report published against the backdrop of intensifying Israeli military operations in Gaza City, the U.N. Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel, urged Israel and all countries to fulfil their obligations under international law “to end the genocide” and punish those responsible. “The Commission finds that Israel is responsible for the commission of genocide in Gaza,” insisted Navi Pillay, Chair of the Commission. “It is clear that there is an intent to destroy the Palestinians in Gaza through acts that meet the criteria set forth in the Genocide Convention.”

One Million Palestinians ‘Reject Displacement’ From North Gaza

About one million Palestinians in Gaza City and northern Gaza are refusing or are unable to be forcibly displaced to overcrowded “safe zones” in southern Gaza, according to a statement issued by the Gaza Government Media Office on 16 September. “More than one million Palestinians remain rooted in Gaza City and the northern Gaza Strip, holding onto their land and homes, and categorically rejecting displacement to the south, despite the savage bombardment and genocidal war carried out by the Israeli occupation,” Palestinian officials said. The statement highlights that the population of Gaza City and northern Gaza “exceeds 1.3 million people,” most of whom have already been displaced from their neighborhoods to central and coastal areas.

Chris Hedges Report: Israel, Charlie Kirk, And Weaponization Of Murder

Charlie Kirk’s assassination will likely serve as the crux of a new era of political violence and repression in the United States. In the days since Kirk was shot at a speaking event at Utah Valley University, right-wing groups and figures have demanded mass censorship of all critical online speech directed at Kirk. President Donald Trump has effectively attributed the attack to the “radical left” and vowed to go after those he deems responsible. Mass doxing campaigns targeting people who contextualized Kirk’s politics or celebrated his killing has led to firings across the country. Amid the online chaos, narratives surrounding Kirk’s assassin, stemming from incomplete reporting from mainstream outlets and a lack of clear analysis by the FBI, have further fueled confusion and outrage across the political spectrum.

Can The United Nations General Assembly End Israel’s Occupation?

With illegal settlements rising and settler violence surging in the West Bank and with famine and relentless bombing killing more than 64,000 Palestinians in Gaza so far, most of them women and children, the world is looking to see what, if anything, the General Assembly can do to ensure that there are meaningful consequences for Israel’s blatant violations of the Geneva Conventions and the Genocide Convention. Just days before the Sept. 18 deadline established by the United Nations General Assembly for Israel to comply with the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice, in which it confirmed the unlawful nature of the Israeli occupation, annexation and settlement of the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), Israel has failed to comply.

Turkey, Spain And 14 Others Warn Against Attacks On Sumud Flotilla

The foreign ministers of 16 countries on Tuesday expressed concern about the safety of the Global Sumud Flotilla headed to Gaza, and warned against “unlawful or violent” acts against it. A joint statement was signed by Turkey, Spain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Ireland, Libya, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mexico, Pakistan, Qatar, Oman, Slovenia and South Africa. “The Global Sumud Flotilla has informed about its objective of delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and raising awareness about the urgent humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people and the need to stop the war in Gaza,” the foreign ministers said. “Both objectives, peace and humanitarian aid delivery, together with the respect of international law, including humanitarian law, are shared by our governments.”
