Massacres

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 283: Israel Bombs Displacement Centers

Israeli forces have killed at least 131 Palestinians since Saturday in three separate targeted bombings on locations where displaced families had been taking shelter. On Saturday, Israeli fighter jets and armed drones struck a crowded tent city several times in the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis, on Saturday morning. The army fired at least nine heavy U.S.-made JDAM missiles on the crowded tent area, according to survivors’ testimonies gathered by Mondoweiss. Al-Mawasi had been declared a “safe area” by the Israeli army in early May as it began its assault on Rafah, pushing thousands of families who had already fled their homes in the center and north of the strip to flee again to al-Mawasi.

Mass Killings, Native Erasure

Upon his arrival into the “New World” Columbus and his crew unleashed a vicious and relentless wave of violence against the Indigenous populations. From enslavement, to mass rapes, to mass killings Columbus and his men inflicted grotesque levels of violence never before seen in the Western hemisphere. By 1508, an estimated three to five million Indigenous peoples from the Island Nations had died since the time of Columbus’s arrival. The genocide had begun, one driven, and backed, by an ideology under the Doctrine of Discovery that claimed European Christians had a God given right to set forth and colonize any lands not occupied by European Christians. Throughout the Western hemisphere, colonization and genocide followed from the eastern shores to the Pacific Ocean.

Rebellion Sweeps Colombia Despite Deadly Repression

Massive protests are taking place throughout Colombia as people stand firm in the face of deadly police violence. Since April 28, when a general strike was called to oppose deeply regressive proposed tax reforms, nationwide demonstrations against far right President Iván Duque have been ongoing. “The repression on the streets perpetuated by the police force is systematic,” a young protester in Colombia who wished to remain anonymous told Liberation, “The ESMAD [Mobile Anti-Disturbances Squadron] along with the national police shoots without remorse rubber bullets, tear gas and attack the protestors.” This is the third wave of nationwide protests faced by Duque’s extreme anti-worker regime since taking office in 2018. Each time his administration has responded with massive police violence.

A Colombian Activist Is Killed Every 20 Hours

The Alliance for Global Justice is extremely concerned with the recent increase of violence in Colombia. In our June 16, 2020 action, we asked you to sign a letter asking Members of the USA Congress to act immediately to protect the lives of social leaders, peasants, indigenous and Afro Colombians victims of the violence generated by the illegal arm forces present in their communities. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, the human rights situation in Colombia has worsened to disturbing levels. In 2020, there have been 43 massacres with most of the victims in the Colombia states of Nariño, Cauca, Valle del Cauca, Antioquia, Arauca, and Santander del Norte. A considerable increase happened in August after the Colombia Supreme Court ordered the house arrest of the Ex-President Uribe. During this month, there have been six massacres, with a total of 24 victims. Among the victims are six children, three indigenous Awa of the Pialapi Pueblo Viejo, in Nariño, and seven young men under 26 years of age.

Three Massacres In Colombia In 24 Hours

Seventeen people have been killed since Friday in the latest string of massacres under the government of Ivan Duque. The government of Colombia’s Nariño department has confirmed a new massacre in the area of La Guayacana, a rural area of the municipality of Tumaco. https://www.transcend.org/tms/2020/08/china-and-the-decline-of-us-power/

Uribe Called To Testify Over Alleged Role In Three Massacres

Colombia’s former President Alvaro Uribe is sinking even deeper into legal trouble after the Supreme Court called him to testify over his alleged role in three massacres and a homicide. The investigation is not directly related to the ongoing fraud and bribery investigation that spurred the Supreme Court to place Uribe under house arrest, but massacres that left between 150 and 200 people dead in his native Antioquia province between 1996 and 1997. This investigation will however be using testimonies from paramilitary fighters Uribe allegedly tried to bribe ahead of last year’s trial in an apparent attempt to prevent being tied to the mass killing of Paisas, the inhabitants of Antioquia. The killing of multiple witnesses who tied Uribe to the massacres also seemed to serve no purpose other than delaying criminal investigations against Colombia’s only admitted drug trafficking associate with a Medal of Honor

Millions Die In Congo While The UN Keeps The Peace

In its most recent report  to the UN Security Council, the UN Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) blandly recounted “progress” in service to their mission, but what is their mission? Up until 2013, MONUSCO had no combat mandate; they were somehow expected to keep the peace amidst a war for Congo’s resources without one. In 2013, however, as the M23 militia was ravaging North and South Kivu Provinces, the UN Group of Experts on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) reported that M23 answered to the command of Rwandan Defense Minister James Kabarebe...

Massacres At Home And Abroad

On August 5, former President Obama released a powerful statement in response to the latest gun massacres in Gilroy, El Paso, and Dayton that left scores dead and wounded—including children who were shopping for school supplies at Walmart with their mothers, and with their families at the wonderful Gilroy Garlic Festival. He decried the madness of violence that has been fueled by Trump’s vile pronouncements and policies that help spread anti-immigrant and racist poison across the nation.

Meet Ten Corporate Giants Helping Israel Massacre Gaza Protesters

NEW YORK — As Israeli soldiers gun down unarmed Palestinian demonstrators in the Great March of Return, their lethal operations depend on an array of contractors and suppliers, many of them companies based outside Israel. “The Israeli military relies on a network of international companies, supplying everything from sniper rifles to tear gas, to carry out its massacres of protesters in Gaza,” Tom Anderson, a researcher for Corporate Occupation, told MintPress News. “These companies are knowingly supporting war crimes, and are complicit in state-orchestrated murder.” Since the mobilization began on March 30, Israeli forces have killed 205 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip...

The Korean Massacre The U.S. Needs To Apologize For

Singapore has been chosen to host the unlikely summit between U.S. president Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in early June. The choice for the summit venue went against Trump’s preference for the meeting to take place at the Peace House in Panmunjeom, where the world had been captivated just weeks before by the amicable scenes of Kim walking hand-in-hand across the Military Demarcation line with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Given that Panmunejom embodies of the division of the Korean Peninsula, it is regrettable that U.S. and North Korean negotiators opted for the southeast Asian city-state instead. This is because the root of the nuclear issue stems largely from the decision by American military officers to divide the Peninsula at the 38th Parallel in the aftermath of World War II.

“Killing Gaza” Captures Culture Of Resistance

Westerners witnessed Israel’s massacre of protesters at the culmination of Gaza’s Great March of Return on 14 May mostly through bytes of imagery transmitted onto flat screens and smartphones. They saw montages of horse-drawn carts carrying bloodied bodies and zig-zagging through thick clouds of teargas, flashes of young men charging at the high-tech fences and militarized fortifications that hold their lives in a soul-sapping stasis, rescue workers overwhelmed by the sheer number of casualties, and grainy footage of snipers in olive drab hunting their prey with laser range finders and terminating 62 lives with the flick of a trigger.

San Francisco: Arrests At Book Event In Protest Of Massacres In Occupied Palestine

San Francisco, CA - 18 people were arrested on Wednesday for speaking out at a book event for the former prime minister of Occupied Palestine, Ehud Barak. The Palestinian Action Network (PAN), Arab Resource Organizing Center (AROC),  Jewish Voice for Peace-Bay Area and other groups shouted down former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, calling him a war criminal for his actions against Palestinians. Barak, who served as prime minister from 1999 to 2001 and as defense minister from 2007 to 2013, spoke at the Jewish Community Center to promote a new book.

Blaming The Victims Of Israel’s Gaza Massacre

Israel massacred 60 Palestinians on Monday, including seven children, bringing to 101 the total number of Palestinians Israel has killed since Palestinians began the Great March on March 30. In that period, Israel has killed 11 Palestinian children, two journalists, one person on crutches and three persons with disabilities. Monday’s casualties included 1,861 wounded, bringing total injuries inflicted by Israel to 6,938 people, including 3,615 with live fire. Israel is using bullets designed to expand inside the body, causing maximum, often permanent damage: “The injuries sustained by patients will leave most with serious, long-term physical disabilities,” says Médecins Sans Frontières (Ha’aretz, 4/22/18). On the 70th anniversary of Israel’s so-called “declaration of independence,” the United States opened its new embassy in Jerusalem—a city Israel claims as its own, despite what international law says on the matter...

U.S. Media Whitewashes Gaza Massacre

As Israel killed more than 50 Palestinians in cold blood protesting the American embassy move on Monday, U.S. corporate media failed to accurately report what happened in Gaza, once again meekly protecting the government line. Typical of the mindset of corporate media reporting on what happened in Gaza on Monday as Israeli soldiers killed more than 50 protesting Palestinians, is this tweet from CNN. It says: “Death toll rises to at least 52 people during clashes along the border fence between Israel and Gaza, Palestinian officials say. More than 2,400 people have been injured.” CNN’s new slogan is “#FactsFirst.”
