The People Want Peace And Progress, Not War And Waste

On 24 and 25 June, the members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) will strut around the streets of The Hague for their annual summit – the first since Donald Trump’s return to the US presidency and the first under new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. On 13 March, Rutte visited Trump in the Oval Office, where he praised the US president on a number of fronts, including the war in Ukraine. Rutte ended the meeting by telling Trump that he was looking forward to hosting him in The Hague, his ‘hometown’, and was eager to ‘work together to ensure that [the NATO summit] will be a splash, a real success projecting American power on the world stage’.

How Ukraine Is Accelerating The ‘Collapse Of Europe’s Political Center’

Brian Becker, host of BreakThrough’s The Socialist Program, joins the show to discuss the latest surrounding the escalating proxy war in Ukraine. Becker breaks down Donald Trump’s claims about ending the war, NATO’s role in fueling global conflict, and the growing disconnect between European governments and their people. “There’s really great alarm by the EU leadership that peace might break out in Ukraine,” Becker says, calling it a “bizarre turn in world politics” driven by European capitalists who are “groveling before US imperialism” that they now demand a more aggressive US posture, even at the expense of their own populations.

Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, And The Land Of The Upright People

Since his ascension to power on September 30, 2022, Captain Ibrahim Traoré has become a powerful symbol of Pan-Africanism and a stark contrast to the previous state of affairs in Burkina Faso. His leadership embodies unquestionable patriotism, committed sovereignty, and a clear vision for the future. The emergence of Captain Ibrahim Traoré and a similar style of leadership in the Sahel has reignited confidence in Pan-Africanism and inspired the youth throughout Africa. This beacon of hope has triggered aspirations among citizens across the continent regarding how their countries should be governed. Indeed, due to his unwavering commitment and patriotism, Captain Ibrahim Traoré has become a star, an inspiration, and a champion of anti-imperialism, posing a genuine threat to imperialism in Africa.

EU Nations Condemning Gaza Genocide Secretly Ink Arms Deals With Israel

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius believe Russia could launch a full-scale attack on Europe by 2030, a fear that has prompted governments across the continent to prepare for war. As European citizens stockpile food and governments ramp up military readiness, one country sees opportunity in that fear: Israel. The European Union is planning to increase its military budget by €800 billion ($900 billion) over the next four years. With the United States pulling back military support for NATO, EU member states are seeking new defense partners, and Israel is stepping in, offering weapons tested on occupied and besieged populations.

Hegseth Demands Nato Allies ‘Spend More’ To Ensure US Support

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has called on NATO allies to adopt US President Donald Trump's former demand that member states increase defense spending to five percent of their gross domestic product (GDP), a significant jump from the current target of two percent. Hegseth made the remarks on 5 June during a NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels, with the aim of finalizing commitments before the upcoming summit in The Hague scheduled for 24–26 June. “We're here to continue the work that President Trump started, which is a commitment to five percent defense spending across this alliance,” Hegseth said, emphasizing that the increase “has to happen by the summit.”

‘No To Nato’s Endless Wars!’ Protesters Mobilize Across The Midwest

On a spring weekend in Dayton, Ohio — nearly three decades after the 1995 Dayton Accords was imposed to conclude one phase of the war in the Balkans — activists, community members, and organizers from across the Midwest and East Coast gathered to oppose NATO’s continued legacy of militarism, imperialism, and global destabilization. The People’s Assembly for Peace and Justice brought together over 400 participants from across Ohio and the entire region (outnumbering NATO’s 300 delegates), united under one clear demand: end NATO’s endless wars and stop pouring public funds into the war machine at the expense of communities.

Serbia’s Organized Chaos

Serbia is a small country which used to be a favorite of Western Allied powers like France and Britain for its heroic resistance to Austrian and German invasion in two world wars.  They liked it so much that in redrawing European boundaries at Versailles in 1918, they enlarged it into the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes which later became Yugoslavia. Some Serb leaders at the time felt that this was too much, but at the time, Croat and Slovene leaders were glad to leave the Austro-Hungarian Empire and join the winning side.  All this changed abruptly in the 1990s. Germany had been reunited and began to drop its humble post-World War II foreign policy.

Rooting Out The Root Causes In Ukraine

After a two-hour telephone call between the presidents of Russia and the United States on Monday, President Vladimir Putin said: I would like to emphasize once again that the conversation was very constructive, and I rate it highly. The question, of course, is for the Russian and Ukrainian sides to show maximum desire for peace and find compromises that would suit all parties. At the same time,I would like to note that Russia’s position is generally clear. The main thing for us is to eliminate the root causes of this crisis. It should be no mystery to Western leaders, media and the public what those root causes are, as Moscow has been repeating them ad nauseam beginning 30 years ago and especially in the run up to Russia’s 2022 intervention in Ukraine’s then eight-year old civil war.

They Left The West To Fight For Russia

Across the scorched fields and ruined factories of Donbass, a new kind of soldier moves among Russian units—not born under the tricolor, but under the flags of the very nations arming Ukraine. They come from America, Britain, France, and beyond. Men once proud of their military service now walk away from NATO’s wars and into the ranks of Russia’s armed forces—or into the humanitarian trenches of liberated towns. Why? Because they’ve seen through the lie. Some fight on the front lines, side by side with Russians defending cities like Chasov Yar. Others deliver aid, rebuild homes, and film what the West will never show its citizens: that this war isn’t about democracy or borders, but about global power, corruption, and forgotten people.

The US/EU/NATO’s Regime Change Playbook For Burkina Faso

On April 3, US Africa Command (AFRICOM) Commander Michael Langley testified to the Senate Armed Services Committee during an excruciating two hours obsessively devoted to the ill-fated project of preserving US hegemony. Langley’s testimony was all about stopping Russia and China’s advances on the continent. Some Senators expressed concern that Trump had dispensed with the soft power—their term—projected by USAID and worried that China is stepping in to fill the breach. Alarm bells went off in Africa, the African diaspora, and peace and justice communities all over the world when he turned attention to Burkina Faso and its leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, accusing him of using the gold reserves he nationalized “to protect his junta.”

Responsibility To Protect And Humanitarian Military Intervention

The principle of the R2P is in direct connection with the question of practical humanitarian military intervention, if necessary. According to the widely accepted academic concept of humanitarian military intervention (HMI), it is a type of military intervention with the focal purpose of humanitarian but not strategic or geopolitical reasons and ultimate objectives. Nevertheless, the term itself became very contested and extremely controversial as, basically, it depends on its various interpretations and understandings. In essence, it is the problem of portraying military intervention as humanitarian to be legally legitimate and morally defensible.

NATO Fraud Exposed: Europe Defenceless Without ‘US Cavalry’

On April 23rd, Politico published an extraordinary article, “The US cavalry isn’t coming”, documenting in forensic detail the extent to which European defence planning and infrastructure has for decades been exclusively “built on the assumption of American support,” and “speeding American reinforcements to the frontlines.” Now, “the prospect of that not happening is throwing military mobility plans into disarray,” and the continent “stands alone” – defenceless, directionless, and bereft of solutions to the disastrous results of their prostration to US hegemony over many decades.

Ukraine Resembles The Fall Of Saigon In 1975

The governing regime in Kiev is desperately trying to maintain its US support, as a defeat of the US-led, NATO proxy war in Ukraine looms. It is citing the collapse of the government in South Vietnam in April 1975 as a warning, saying that something similar could happen in Ukraine. At the time, the US defeat in Vietnam was a huge blow to the image and standing of US imperialism in the world. Such pronouncements by the Kiev regime reveal a recognition that ‘its’ Ukraine has become a satellite of the United States – much as South Vietnam was widely recognized to be half a century ago. Then as now, Washington and its allies are desperately seeking to maintain their economic and military dominance over the world and to stop rising movements of liberation by the peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America.

NATO Was Founded To Crush Communist, Socialist, And Anti-Colonial Movements

Medea Benjamin and David Swanson explain NATO’s supremely violent history in NATO: What You Need to Know. The organization was born on April 4, 1949, when foreign ministers from 12 nations came together in Washington, D.C. to sign the 1100-page North Atlantic Treaty. Its original members were Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The treaty proclaimed its commitment to peace and the principles of the UN Charter, but “the real glue that brought NATO countries together was opposition to communism and socialism.”

Birthing A New International Order

Writing in his cell as a political prisoner in fascist Italy after World War I, the philosopher Antonio Gramsci famously declared: “The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear.” A century later, we are in another interregnum, and the morbid symptoms are everywhere. The U.S.-led order has ended, but the multipolar world is not yet born. The urgent priority is to give birth to a new multilateral order that can keep the peace and the path to sustainable development. We are at the end of a long wave of human history that commenced with the voyages of Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama more than 500 years ago.
