Belgian Court Bans Military Shipments To Israel In Activist Victory

In what could become a landmark ruling, a Belgian judge recently ordered the Flemish government to halt the transit of goods that could be used to continue or expand the genocide in Gaza. The decision follows a joint campaign by four organizations – Intal, Vredesactie (Peace Action), 11.11.11, and the Human Rights League – which was triggered by the discovery of containers in the port of Antwerp addressed to Israeli company Ashot Ashkelon Industries. The containers included materials used for the assembly of Merkava tanks, the same model implicated in the attack that killed six-year-old Hind Rajab.

NEA Leadership Rejects Member Vote To Sever Ties With ADL

In one of the biggest displays of labor organizing against anti-Palestinian racism, the National Education Association’s (NEA) policymaking body voted on July 5 to cut all ties with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). The vote was a product of years of grassroots organizing within the NEA. This activity within the union was bolstered by the growth of the Drop The ADL campaign, an initiative by a wide range of progressive organizations to educate communities about the ADL’s anti-Palestinian bias and opposition to free speech in schools.

Israeli-Made Famine In Gaza Reaches Critical Point

At least 15 Palestinians died of starvation in Gaza over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll from hunger and malnutrition to 101 since the start of the genocide, including 89 children, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry on July 22. “This is a silent massacre. The Ministry of Health holds the Israeli occupation and the international community fully responsible. We urgently call for the immediate opening of all crossings to allow the entry of food and medicine,” the ministry said. Euro-Med Monitor reported that one Palestinian died of hunger every 80 minutes on Sunday, accusing Israel of pursuing “a systematic starvation policy against 2 million residents.”

As the genocide in Gaza continues, imperialist governments that have made Israel’s crimes possible are escalating their attacks on the movement for Palestine. From the targeting of international students to the recent firing of four CUNY faculty over Palestine activism, universities remain an important site of struggle against the genocide. Despite the repression, there have been victories which show that it pays to take up the fight against these attacks on the movement for Palestine. One example is at Princeton University, where 13 activists from the Princeton community recently got charges dropped after more than a year.

Friday, July 11, marked a profound bereavement for the residents of Al-Mazraa Al-Sharqiyah village northeast of Ramallah, in the central occupied West Bank, after a group of illegal Israeli settlers treacherously murdered two young men of the village. Mohammad Shalabi (23), and Sayfollah Musallet (20) were in Mount Al-Baten, located between Al-Mazraa Al-Sharqiyah and a nearby village called Sinjil, when they were attacked by settlers and killed. A resident of Al-Mazraa Al-Sharqiyah told Peoples Dispatch that illegal Israeli settlers began to vandalize farms belonging to families of the village in Mount Al-Baten over a month ago.

Israel’s genocide in Gaza has left soldiers serving in the occupation army “afraid” to return “home”, fearing prosecution for war crimes committed during the ongoing assault which has killed more than 58,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. In Canada, where several citizens have served in the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), a growing number of those soldiers are reported to be reconsidering trips home after learning they may be under investigation. In June, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed it had launched a “structural investigation” into crimes committed during the Gaza assault.

Collective measures to confront Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people have been agreed by 12 nations after an emergency summit of the Hague Group in Bogota, Colombia. A joint statement adopted on Wednesday announced the six measures, which it said were geared to holding Israel to account for its crimes in Palestine and would operate within the states’ domestic legal and legislative frameworks. The 12 countries agreeing are Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Indonesia, Iraq, Libya, Malaysia, Namibia, Nicaragua, Oman, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and South Africa.

Mossad Chief Pushes For US Assistance In Ethnically Cleansing Gaza

David Barnea, the director of Israel's Mossad spy agency, held meetings in Washington this week seeking help from US officials to convince countries to take hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who Israel plans to ethnically cleanse from Gaza, Axios reported on 19 July. According to two sources, the Israeli spy chief told White House envoy Steve Witkoff that Israel has been in talks with Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Libya to accept Palestinians as refugees. While Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims his government's goal of expelling much or all of Gaza's population will be "voluntary" for Palestinians, US and Israeli legal experts say it would constitute ethnic cleansing and a clear war crime.

The Israeli government has just put forward one of the most brazenly genocidal schemes in modern memory — and unless we act immediately, the world will once again let it happen. As reported in Haaretz, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz is proposing to force some 600,000 Palestinians — and eventually the entire population of Gaza — into a fenced-in “humanitarian city” to be built on the ruins of Rafah in southern Gaza. The plan is to “screen” the population, separate out alleged Hamas members, and then pressure the remaining civilians — men, women, and children — to “voluntarily” leave Gaza for another country. Which country? That hasn’t even been determined.

Palestinian Man Detained At Houston Airport For Nine Days

The Attorneys of a 22-year-old Palestinian man say their client was detained by immigration authorities at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport for nine days. According to a statement from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Muhanad J. M. Alshrouf obtained a U.S. immigrant visa before flying to Houston to visit his father on a flight from Dubai on July 5. Alshrouf reportedly spent days in a secondary screening room at the airport before being released on the evening of July 14. He was not allowed to obtain legal counsel, a change of clothes, or proper food, and authorities gave no reason for his release.

Brazil To Join South Africa’s Complaint Against ‘Israel’ At International Court Of Justice

According to Folha de S. Paulo, Brazil will formally request to participate in the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Tel Aviv. The Brazilian news outlet stated that the complaint before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) seeks to have the actions committed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip recognized as genocide. South Africa filed a case at the ICJ in 2023, accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The complaint, rooted in the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, alleges that Israel’s military operations since October 2023 have targeted the Palestinian population with the intent to destroy their group in whole or in part.

Bogota, Colombia - Representatives of major international organizations will convene to launch the Friends of The Hague Group (FOTHG) in Bogota as The Hague Group (THG) holds an emergency ministerial meeting on Palestine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 15 and 16. The Hague Group was established in January of this year in The Hague, Netherlands by the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the Republic of Colombia (current co-chair), the Republic of Cuba, the Republic of Honduras, Malaysia, the Republic of Namibia, the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of South Africa (current co-chair) so that states could work collaboratively using diplomatic and legal measures to enforce international law, specifically regarding Israel’s ongoing genocide of Palestinians and the failure of current international institutions to hold those countries and leaders who are committing war crimes accountable.
