Cuba And The Concept Of Community Of Nations

Some years ago I was talking to a Cuban doctor about what a remarkable achievement it was that Cuba was able to eliminate Malaria in 1973. He took the discussion in stride and said that it didn’t mean much until we eradicate Malaria in the entire world. Today Cuba is proving once again that their view of health and battling diseases is one that is global in scope and despite living under the unilateral 60-year-old US blockade, with additional sanctions coming their way daily...

Radical Solidarity Through Covid-19

Community mobilizations for mutual aid and medical solidarity have formed in as many spaces as the new coronavirus (Covid-19) has spread.    From continent to continent, people have innovated and navigated through information suppression, governmental inadequacy and unpreparedness as well as supply shortages in panic-economies with global financial markets plummeting.   The global pandemic is a disaster enveloping all of the intersections where climate catastrophes typically surge, storm-batter and strand impacted regions, but when every community is a different version of ground zero, sourcing from within, in as much as possible, becomes a critical component.

TC Energy Headquarters Shut Down In Charleston, WV For Hours; Multiple People Lock To Each Other

Charleston, WV — Early this morning, more than 100 water protectors shut down the TC Energy Headquarters in Charleston, WV. Several people locked their necks to one another, blockading the lobby so that business inside the building could not continue. Outside, the building’s flagpole was divested of its American flag...

Wet’suwet’en Solidarity: “This Movement Wouldn’t Exist Without Everything That Preceded It”

Rail and highway blockades have proliferated across Canada since Februrary 6, when the RCMP, western Canada’s colonial police force, began raiding a series of camps that stand in the way of proposed gas pipelines in unceded Wet’suwet’en territory.

San Francisco, CA: Report Back From Lockdown At Chase Corporate Offices In Solidarity With Wet’suwet’en

Coastal GasLink is a project of TC Energy, formerly known as TransCanada Pipelines, an institution leading multiple extractive energy projects on Indigenous land. Coastal GasLink is a pipeline intended to go across the unceded territory of the Wet’suwet’en Nation in so-called Canada.

Protests Continue Across Canada In Solidarity With Wet’suwet’en Land Defenders Fighting Fracked Gas Pipeline

Demonstrations over the past week have halted traffic in downtown Vancouver and shut down railways throughout the country. Protests across Canada continued Wednesday in solidarity with Wet'suwet'en First Nation hereditary chiefs and land defenders fighting against a fracked gas pipeline that would cut through their unceded territory in northern British Columbia. For more than a year...

Climate Justice And Indigenous Rights Advocates Rally In Solidarity With Wet’suwet’en People As RCMP Continue Raids

Indigenous rights supporters held solidarity actions across Canada over the weekend as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police continued their raids on Wet'suwet'en land in British Columbia. The Unist'ot'en Camp reported on its official Facebook page Sunday that at least 21 people had been arrested since Thursday, when, as Common Dreams reported...

United Steelworkers In Solidarity With The Massachusetts Indigenous Legislative Agenda

Whereas, USW Local 8751 represents over 1,000 school bus drivers in Boston and Randolph, Mass., most of whose families are from Haiti, Cape Verde, Barbados, Jamaica, Ethiopia, Santo Domingo, Vietnam, Honduras, states of the U.S. South, homelands that experienced waves of successive enslavement, invasion and occupation since 1492 by armies from Spain, Portugal, France, Britain, Italy and the United States...

Solidarity Cities In Europe: A New Urban Policy Approach

Across Europe, urban solidarity movements are gaining momentum. Under the label of “Welcoming Cities,” “Cities of Refuge” or “Solidarity Cities,” civil society groups, local politicians and city administrations are defying the growing restrictions of border regimes and migration policies on the European and national level. At the same time, these movements develop specific municipal policies for the protection or social inclusion of people with precarious status.

Canada Erupts In Solidarity With Wet’suwet’en

Thank you to the 50 people who gathered Saturday in SOLIDARITY with the Wet’suwet’en land defenders, on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe. The gathering was opened with songs and a speech. Then, despite the snow storm, the march took to the streets and traveled from Kingston City Hall to Queen’s University where Jawad Masud, TC Energy VP of Corporate Communications was speaking at the Oil and Gas Panel at the Queen’s Global Energy Conference.

La Via Campesina In Venezuela: A Mission For The Brotherhood, Solidarity And Truth Of The People

Today, Venezuela is the target of a hybrid and multidimensional (economic, financial, diplomatic, media and military) aggression, which is seriously impacting the life of the country and its people. This offensive has benefitted from the support of governments serving the interests of the United States and of stateless and elitist internal political forces.

All Eyes On Wet’suwet’en: International Call For Week Of Solidarity!

Unceded and sovereign Wet’suwet’en land is under attack. On December 31, 2019, BC Supreme Court Justice Marguerite Church granted an injunction against members of the Wet’suwet’en nation who have been stewarding and protecting our traditional territories from the destruction of multiple pipelines, including Coastal GasLink’s (CGL) liquified natural gas (LNG) pipeline. Hereditary Chiefs of all five Wet’suwet’en clans have rejected Church’s decision, which criminalizes Anuk ‘nu’at’en (Wet’suwet’en law), and have issued and enforced an eviction of CGL’s workers from the territory.

Beating The Western Media Blockade – Ideas, Infrastructure, Solidarity

So much confusion and bad faith prevails in the current global information chaos that getting back to basics sometimes seems impossible. But fundamentals never change and merit constant repetition. Above all, anti-imperialist defense of majority world peoples' right to development against the fascist onslaught of the corporate and political power of the United States and Europe demands resolute unity. There is no third way in a global conflict between the rights of the world's peoples to peace, justice and well-being and the all consuming militarist greed of the Western corporate elites and their allies.

The Freedom Flotilla Will Make Its 35th Attempt To Sail To Gaza In 2020

The solidarity mission is scheduled for the summer of 2020, and, like most of the 35 previous attempts, the Flotilla is likely to be intercepted by the Israeli navy. What is Gaza to us but an Israeli missile, a rudimentary rocket, a demolished home, an injured child being whisked away by his peers under a hail of bullets? On a daily basis, Gaza is conveyed to us as a bloody image or a dramatic video, none of which can truly capture the everyday reality of the Strip – its formidable steadfastness, the everyday acts of resistance, and the type of suffering that can never be really understood through a customary glance at a social media post.
