The G20 Summit, and this year, is being hosted in Brazil with a special focus on food insecurity. The G20 is a summit of the leaders of the top 20 economies around the world coming together to discuss issues around, as I said this year, food sovereignty. Well, they don't necessarily call it food sovereignty, but food insecurity. Also there are climate change trade deals, including Mercosur , which would be essentially like a free trade deal package with the European Union and other European countries, which is being heavily protested by a lot of the social movements, not just from Brazil, but throughout Nuestra America (Our America) that have been present for the past week or so.

The U.S. is willing to (proxy-)fight Russia down to the last Ukrainian. White House presses Ukraine to lower draft age to meet manpower needs against Russia WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden's administration is urging Ukraine to quickly increase the size of its military by drafting more troops and revamping its mobilization laws to allow for the conscription of those as young as 18. A senior Biden administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private consultations, said Wednesday that the outgoing Democratic administration wants Ukraine to lower the mobilization age to 18 from the current age of 25 to expand the pool of fighting-age men available to help a badly outnumbered Ukraine in its nearly three-year-old war with Russia. The official said “the pure math” of Ukraine's situation now is that it needs more troops in the fight.

The humiliation of Russia began with the end of the Cold War that Kennedy had sought, but not on the terms he envisioned. Despite George H.W. Bush’s vow not to engage in triumphalism, that was in full swing once Clinton took power. Wall Street and U.S. corporate carpetbaggers swept into the former Soviet Union in the 1990s, eyed its enormous natural resources, asset-stripped the formerly state-owned industries, enriched themselves, gave rise to oligarchs and impoverished the Russian, Ukrainian and other former Soviet peoples. The humiliation intensified with the decision in the nineties to expand NATO eastward despite a promise made to the last Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev in exchange for reunifying Germany.

US To Deepen Footprint In Lebanon According To Ceasefire Plan

The US is set to deepen its footprint in Lebanon as part of a ceasefire deal aimed at ending more than a year of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. According to details of the agreement shared with Middle East Eye by current and former US and Arab officials, the 60-day ceasefire will see all Israeli forces withdraw from Lebanon in phases, with Hezbollah moving north of the Litani River. The deal could be announced late on Tuesday and is broadly based on UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah and was supposed to see the Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) deployed to southern Lebanon.

After Donald Trump’s election victory on November 5, the Ukrainian authorities and media are visibly concerned about a possible change of policy in Washington. During the recent presidential and Congress elections, US media close to the Democratic Party were full of scare stories that Trump and the Republican Party, if elected, would force Ukraine into negotiations and concessions with the Russian Federation. The unelected, governing regime in Kiev is entirely dependent on Western powers for arms to pursue the war against Russia and for loans and investments to keep its economy afloat.

Biden Declares ‘National Emergency’ Over Threat Posed By Tiny Nicaragua

In the dying days of his administration, President Biden must have needed a reminder by his officials on November 22. He had to decide whether Nicaragua still poses an “unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States”. Presumably he agreed that it does, because he renewed its status as a “national security threat” for a further year, repeating the designation that first began under the last Trump presidency. As figures from the Latin America Security and Defense Network show, this “threat” comes from a state which spends less of its national income on defense than almost any other country in the hemisphere.

Two wars, dragging humanity into despair and existential peril, have in the past week sunk to levels difficult to comprehend. The danger of a nuclear confrontation between Russia and the West over Ukraine has been theoretically with us for nearly three years, but last week it took on terrifyingly concrete form. And in the metastasizing wars in the Middle East, which carry their own more distant atomic threat, the genocidal rage of an unbalanced Israel spread deeper into Lebanon, while all-out war with Iran simmers; the ethnic cleansing of at least the North of Gaza is no longer denied in the Israeli press, and much of the world’s patience with the Zionist state ran out as its prime minister was indicted by an international criminal court never intended to pursue Western and allied leaders.

I could not tell the easy, comforting lie. “No,” I told the woman, her traumatised children clinging to her legs, “I can’t say you are safe here; not one of us is safe. The Israelis are genocidal. But in Lebanon so far, I don’t think they have bombed a school.” I was with 67 families, with 215 children, who are living as refugees in a small school at Ain Rumaila in Southern Beirut. The area borders the evacuated suburb of Dahiya which the Israelis are systematically demolishing, and bombings rattle the windows of the school every day. This woman is a school teacher when at home in Southern Lebanon, and her husband a retired soldier.

When the military Committee for the Safeguard of Our Homeland (CNSP) took power in Niger last year on July 26, Paris and Washington sought to have members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) stage a military intervention into this uranium-rich country to reimpose the French and U.S.-backed ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.

US Tries To Pound Lebanon Into Submission

Israel has intensified its air strikes on Lebanon and in particular on Beirut, ahead of a visit on Tuesday or Wednesday by U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein, at which he will press Lebanon to accept a U.S./Israeli ceasefire plan. This plan is touted as being based on U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 [of 2006], but in fact represents its abnegation. You may have noted that neoliberal politicians and media pundits, who ignore and denigrate every other U.N. resolution on the Middle East, are suddenly very enthusiastic about UNSCR 1701. This is because it mandates withdrawal of Hezbollah forces to the north of the river Litani.

In response to reports of President Biden authorizing long-range Ukrainian strikes inside Russia with US missiles, the Kremlin pointed to a warning previously made by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In September, Putin was asked about the possibility of NATO supporting long-range strikes on Russian territory and said it would mean the US and European NATO countries were “at war with Russia.” He added that if that’s “the case, then taking into account the change of nature of the conflict, we will take the appropriate decisions based on the threats that we will face.”

As a parting shot to incoming U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the defeated Joe Biden has defied the Pentagon by risking European and U.S. security with his decision announced Sunday to allow Ukraine to fire U.S. long-range missiles into Russian territory. Just two months ago, in September, Biden had bowed to the realists in the Pentagon to oppose allowing long-range British Storm Shadow missiles from being fired by Ukraine deep into Russia out of fear it would lead to a direct NATO-Russia military confrontation with all that that entails.
