Wars and Militarism

Gaza: Airstrikes, Explosive Vehicles, Bulldozers Cause ‘Insane’ Destruction

Ahead of its planned full-scale invasion of Gaza City, the Israeli army is causing widespread destruction in the Strip’s largest urban center, forcing residents to evacuate ahead of its publicly declared start date: October 7. Recent reports from eyewitnesses and the Gaza Civil Defense show that the Israeli army has been using retrofitted armored personnel carriers (APCs) that are sent into dense population centers, including neighborhoods and displacement centers, before they are remotely detonated. The attacks continue alongside an extensive bulldozing operation in the city and constant aerial bombardment. Between August 12 and August 18, the Israeli army destroyed over 400 buildings in the Zaytoun neighborhood and launched a limited ground incursion at its edges.

Australia Breaks With Iran; Sign Of A New War Coming?

The Aussies just trashed their relations with Iran based on nothing but obscure say-so. Australia throws out Iran ambassador over alleged antisemitic attacks Canberra expelled Tehran’s ambassador after accusing Iran of masterminding at least two antisemitic attacks on Australian soil. Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the country’s intelligence services had linked Iran’s military to arson attacks in Sydney and Melbourne, throwing out an ambassador for the first time since World War II, a move The Sydney Morning Herald’s national affairs editor dubbed “the diplomatic equivalent of the nuclear option.” Iran rejected the charge. I have searched and read several news pieces on this issue and have found no mention of any fact that would connect two months ago arson incidents in Australia with Iran.

Unaudited Power: The Military Budget Nobody Controls

The U.S. federal debt has now passed $37 trillion and is growing at the rate of $1 trillion every five months. Interest on the debt exceeds $1 trillion annually, second only to Social Security in the federal budget. The military outlay is also close to $1 trillion, consuming nearly half of the discretionary budget. As a sovereign nation, the United States could avoid debt altogether by simply paying for the budget deficit with Treasury-issued “Greenbacks,” as Abraham Lincoln’s government did. But I have written on that before (see here and here), so this article will focus on that other elephant in the room, the Department of Defense. Under the Constitution, the military budget should not be paid at all, because the Pentagon has never passed an audit.

Ukraine’s Future; A ‘Steppe Corridor’, A Neutral, Transit-Oriented State

While Russia is confidently prosecuting the war in Ukraine towards its inevitable end. Meanwhile the 'West' is still negotiating with itself about the conditions under which it will have to capitulate. Discussions continue about 'security guarantees' for Ukraine even as the only serious ones are those that Russia is willing to give. The confused arguments about 'guarantees' are reflected in the reports of them. Consider this nonsense: A security guarantee could encompass a wide range of issues. In return for Russia ending its invasion, a security pact could include a pledge of U.S. air support for any European-led operations should Russian troops resume their assault. If Russia ends the war NATO like 'security guarantees' are to be given to Ukraine as a reward?

How Israel And Ukraine Built A Fascist, Transnational War Machine

From Bandera to Ben-Gurion, echoes of ethno-nationalist revival resonate in the modern trajectories of Ukraine and Israel, two states forged through war, hardened by siege mentalities, and fueled by historical narratives of existential struggle. But these similarities are no accident of parallel development. They reflect a deepening alignment shaped by shared adversaries like Russia and Iran, backed and brokered by the same Western patrons. In 2022, an officer of Ukraine’s Azov Regiment, toured Israel after surviving the siege of Mariupol. By 2025, Israeli drones were flying missions over Rafah, while American-made PSRL-1 rocket launchers, initially supplied to Ukraine, were spotted in conflict zones across the Middle East.

Japanese Militarism Has Not Changed Its Spots Since The End Of WWII

As we commemorate Japan’s unconditional surrender 80 years ago, on 15 August 1945, which ended WWII in Asia Pacific, we must remain vigilant. Hirohito, the war time emperor of Japan, was a war criminal who escaped punishment on the insistence of the US.  Hirohito was directly and personally involved in the conduct of Japan’s invasion of sovereign nations and the death and atrocities inflicted on millions of civilians during WWII in Asia Pacific. Hirohito’s surrender speech is full of lies, half-truths and distortion of facts about Japan’s declaration, conduct and even surrender of its barbaric war against the people of the Asia Pacific region. Hirohito, in his surrender speech, referred to Japan’s four years of war in Asia Pacific.

White ‘Supremacy’s’ Subjective Identification Of War Criminals Reveals Deeper Psychopathology

Last week the world witnessed the geopolitical spectacle that took place in Anchorage, Alaska when Presidents Trump and Putin met to discuss ending the feckless, unnecessary, and fossil-fueled war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine that’s been ongoing for three years. Unsurprisingly, the three hour discussion between the leaders led to no comprehensive agreement that would, in Trump’s words, “stop the killing.” However, while the Trump/Putin meeting failed to result in an armistice, it did elucidate profound hypocrisies and revealed that when it comes to who is considered a war criminal it largely depends on who the victims are.

The Ukraine War Is Over And Ukraine Lost (To The USA) In 2014

Even some of my readers have Ukraine derangement, where they think the Empire that has been wrong about every war happens to be right about this one. It ain’t true. Ukraine is just one front of the war White Empire is waging on the world, and I hope they lose. Thankfully albeit tragically (by Russia’s own admission), they are. Ukraine is simply exhausted and Empire is bored. Ukraine’s men have been thrown around like toy soldiers and, like the meme goes, America is saying I don’t want to play with you no more. That’s the meaning behind all this talk of negotiations. They’re meaningless. All that’s left is surrender. You have to consider negotiations in this context. Trump has said Ukraine is not his war and he visibly dressed down the already illegitimate (no elections) Zelensky.

Trump And Democrats Fuel The Washington DC Crime Panic

“The year before, Newark, New Jersey, had been occupied by nearly lily-white units of the National Guard, sent there to quell a four-day rebellion in which 26 Blacks were killed.” Glen Ford describing the 1967 occupation of Newark, New Jersey. Donald Trump’s declaration of a 30-day public safety emergency, including a National Guard deployment, in Washington DC was not, as the corporate media would have us believe, undertaken suddenly. The reported assault on one of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) former employees, Edward Coristine, was widely reported to be the casus belli of the federal attack on Washington DC.

Halt On Medical Evacuations Is A Death Sentence For Palestinian Children

The U.S. State Department’s decision this weekend to halt all visitor visas for people from Gaza, which includes the medical-humanitarian visas that have brought injured children to American hospitals, will cost Palestinian lives. Officials say this process will be subject to a “full and thorough review”. For a child with infected burns or a deep trauma wound, a pause is a verdict on their life. The freeze did not arise from new intelligence or any novel identification of problems in the temporary visitor visa pathway. It followed a social-media panic with the circulation of mischaracterized videos of injured children arriving under the care of a U.S. nonprofit being labeled as a “security threat,” rhetoric amplified by political allies. The State Department then announced it was stopping visas while it re-examines procedures.

Trump Says He’s Working To Arrange A Meeting Between Putin And Zelensky

President Trump said on Monday that he was working on arranging a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, comments that came after a day of hosting the Ukrainian leader and several European officials at the White House. “At the conclusion of the meetings, I called President Putin, and began the arrangements for a meeting, at a location to be determined, between President Putin and President Zelensky,” the president wrote on Truth Social. Trump said that once Putin and Zelensky meet, he would join them for a three-way talk. “After that meeting takes place, we will have a Trilat, which would be the two Presidents, plus myself,” he wrote.

Declassified: CIA’s Covert Ukraine Invasion Plan

On August 7th, US polling giant Gallup published the remarkable results of a survey of Ukrainians. Public support for Kiev “fighting until victory” has plummeted to a record low “across all segments” of the population, “regardless of region or demographic group.” In a “nearly complete reversal from public opinion in 2022,” 69% of citizens “favor a negotiated end to the war as soon as possible.” Just 24% wish to keep fighting. However, vanishingly few believe the proxy war will end anytime soon. The reasons for Ukrainian pessimism on this point are unstated, but an obvious explanation is the intransigence of President Volodymyr Zelensky, encouraged by his overseas backers – Britain in particular.

Will The United States Invade Mexico?

Donald Trump is proving time and again to foreign leaders that counting on friendly relations is senseless. Most recently, India, Canada, Ukraine, and Brazil discovered that, contrary to expectations, Trump is not influenced by historical ties or long-term common interests. He will treat them like adversaries if there is immediate advantage to doing so. Now Mexico joins the list. Trump has long had the idea of pursuing drug dealers into Mexico. The New York Times reports that he has signed a secret directive to the Pentagon that could lead to the dispatch of US air and ground forces into Mexico, or other countries, on the pretext of fighting terrorism, a designation the State Department began using once Trump took office.

Pentagon Paves Way To Reclaim Ukraine-Bound Arms To US Stockpiles

A memo written by the US Defense Department’s policy chief will allow US weapons and equipment earmarked for Ukraine to be diverted back into US stockpiles, CNN reported on 8 August. According to four people who have read the memo, the policy represents “a dramatic shift” that could see billions of dollars of weapons redirected to shore up dwindling US supplies. The memo was written last month by US Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby, but has become public ahead of US President Donald Trump’s planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for next week. Items desired by Ukraine’s military that are in short supply in the US include interceptor missiles, Patriot air defense systems, and artillery ammunition.

Are We On The Verge Of Another Nuclear War?

Eighty years ago, the U.S. dropped nuclear bombs on the civilian populations of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There are now nine nuclear-armed nations, many in military confrontation with one another. It is quite remarkable that there has not been another nuclear war. How can this be explained? Some say the absence of another nuclear war proves that nuclear “deterrence” is working, and to some extent that is true. These nations are rightfully afraid of a nuclear conflagration which could obliterate their societies, and even destroy all life on planet Earth.  With escalating military confrontations today – even the possibility of a World War – how long can “deterrence” work?
