Chicago Protesters Condemn Bombing Of Yemen, Genocide In Palestine

Chicago, IL – Over 750 protesters braved the coldest weekend of this winter so far on Saturday, January 13 to demand that the U.S. and its allies take their hands off Yemen and end their support of Israel’s genocide in Palestine. The protesters spoke in favor of Yemen's naval blockade against Israel as well as in support of South Africa charging the apartheid state with genocide at the International Court of Justice. This was the latest in a string of weekly protests organized by the Coalition for Justice in Palestine since October 7, 2023. In addition to the usual chants of “Free Palestine” and “No more money for Israel's crimes” protesters chanted “Yemen, Yemen stand your ground. Turn another ship around.”

Bombing Yemen As British As Afternoon Tea

U.K. air strikes on the Houthis in Yemen – who have dared to challenge Western support for Israel over Gaza – are taking place exactly 60 years after a brutal British bombing campaign in the country. The so-called Radfan revolt of early 1964 in modern-day Yemen has long passed out of historical memory. We should remember it though, as evidence of how British foreign policy is practised in reality – and how we only truly find out about that reality once government files are released decades later. The Radfan is a mountainous area about 50 miles north of Aden, Yemen’s major southern port. In the early 1960s, it was part of a British colonial creation – the Federation of South Arabia, a grouping of sheikhdoms and sultanates established by London.

Yemen: An Indomitable People – Part Two

The transnational mainstream media have planted the narrative that Ansarallah act under the influence of the Iranian government. While neither Iran nor Ansarallah have denied being part of an axis of resistance against imperialism, colonialism and Zionism, an axis that also incorporates political forces from Lebanon, Syria, Bahrain, and Palestine itself, simplifying the equation to a relationship of “subordination” is both superficial and banal, given the Yemeni people’s own history of struggle. In West Asia, the growing aggressiveness of “Israel” and the interventionist presence of the United States have been polarizing the political situation.

Empire Bombs Yemen To Protect Israel’s Genocide

The U.S and U.K. have reportedly struck over a dozen sites in Yemen using Tomahawk missiles and fighter jets, backed by logistical support from Australia, Canada, Bahrain and the Netherlands. U.S. President Joe Biden, in a statement, asserts that the strikes against “targets in Yemen used by Houthi rebels” are a “direct response to unprecedented Houthi attacks against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea.” What Biden does not mention in his statement about his administration’s “response” to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea is that those Red Sea attacks are themselves a response to Israeli crimes against humanity in Gaza.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 98: Israel Claims ‘Self Defense’ At ICJ

Friday marked the second day of hearings at the International Court of Justice in The Hague in the genocide case against Israel. After the South African team laid out its arguments on Thursday as to why Israel’s relentless campaign of violence in the Gaza Strip since October 7 constitutes a deliberate and genocidal attack on Palestinians as a whole, Israel took to the stand on Friday to defend its record, hoping to convince the court’s 15 judges to drop the case altogether. The Israeli defense, as laid out in opening remarks by Israeli foreign ministry legal adviser Tal Becker, did not bring many surprises for those who have been following the Israeli government’s statements since October 7.

US, UK Attack On Yemen ‘Will Not Go Unpunished’

The Yemeni Armed Forces released a statement on 12 January condemning the US-British attack on the country and announcing the deaths of several of its troops. “The US-British enemy, as part of its support for the continued Israeli crime in Gaza, launched a brutal aggression against the Republic of Yemen with seventy-three raids, targeting the capital, Sanaa, and the governorates of Hodeidah, Taiz, Hajjah, and Saada. The raids led to the death of five martyrs and the injury of six others from our armed forces.” The attack will “not go unpunished or unanswered,” the Armed Forces added.

Stop The War On Yemen!

Workers World condemns the U.S. and British imperialist governments for their unjustifiable attacks on Yemen Jan. 11. This latest aggression is a direct expansion of the genocidal war they have been collaborating with in Gaza. It coincides with the charges of that genocide against Israel in the International Court of Justice, brought by South Africa. This attack on Yemen exposes the lies from the Biden administration about taking every step to avoid expanding the war in the region. Once again after the invasions of Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan, Washington and its NATO allies, first and foremost its top junior partner in London, have attacked another country in the West Asia region.

Could Israel’s War In Gaza Spiral Into A Regional War?

Over three months into Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza, there is little hope the carnage will stop anytime soon—and with each passing day, the danger of Israel’s war on Gaza spiraling into a larger regional conflict increases. The devastation in Gaza is unlike anything seen in the 21st century, but Israel’s military strikes—like last week’s assassination of Saleh al-Arouri, a top leader of Hamas, in Lebanon—have not been limited to Palestine alone. At the same time, armed resistance groups in Iraq and Syria have launched hundreds of attacks on US bases, confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah has created a simmering northern front along the Lebanese border, and Yemen’s blockade of the Red Sea has created an international crisis for shipping and trade.

Oman Seizes Drones Bound For UAE-Backed Forces In Yemen

Omani customs authorities seized a shipment of drones hidden in a truck from the UAE heading for Yemen on 10 January. “The Directorate General of Customs seized a truck at the Hafeet crossing loaded with wireless drones coming by transit system from the United Arab Emirates heading to the Republic of Yemen,” said the customs authorities. “Customs inspectors were able to discover the shipments hidden professionally in places specially prepared for smuggling them in the truck. The concerned authorities began investigating the case in order to complete the rest of the legal procedures against the suspects,” the authorities added.

Yemen: An Indomitable People (Part 1)

In 2015, Yemen, a country unknown to many in the West, started a war in defense of its sovereignty that was being threatened by an interventionist alliance led by Saudi Arabia. The Yemeni people had to pay with the lives of almost 400,000 of their children to maintain their independence. Many people have wondered how a country considered the poorest in Western Asia has been able to resist and defeat a coalition made up of some of the richest countries on the planet. Although the conflict has continued for almost a decade, it appears to have reached a situation that could lead to its possible cessation.

Israel Is Provoking The US Into A Conflict With Iran

For years, this site has warned that Israel, especially Benjamin Netanyahu, have tried to instigate the U.S. into a wider war in the Mideast, particularly with Iran. We’ve also regularly indicted the U.S. mainstream media for ignoring this danger. Today, the threat is greater than ever. And, true to form, the New York Times, National Public Radio, and the others continue to cover it up, instead treating Netanyahu as the embattled but honest leader of an Israel that is only trying to defend itself. For more than a decade, Netanyahu’s main aim was to destroy Iran’s alleged (and unproven) program to build nuclear weapons.

US Sinks Yemeni Boats Enforcing Red Sea Blockade Against Israel

US Navy helicopters sank three Yemeni naval boats in the Red Sea, killing ten, a statement from the Ansarallah-led Yemeni Armed Forces said on 31 December. According to the statement, the Yemeni navy fighters were killed “performing their humanitarian and moral duty” to prevent Israeli-linked ships or those heading to Israeli ports from passing through the Red Sea, “in solidarity and support for the Palestinian people.” Since the beginning of the war on Gaza on 7 October, Yemeni armed forces have attacked over 15 commercial ships either headed to Israeli ports or whose owners have links to Israel, in an effort to stop Israel’s ongoing bombing campaign on Gaza, which many view as genocide.

US Sanctions Yemeni Money Network Over Pro-Palestine Action

The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on 28 December imposed unilateral economic sanctions on one individual and two currency exchange houses in Yemen, accusing them of “facilitating” the flow of funds for the Ansarallah resistance movement. “Today’s action underscores our resolve to restrict the illicit flow of funds to [Ansarallah], who continue to conduct dangerous attacks on international shipping and risk further destabilizing the region,” said Brian Nelson, the US Treasury under-secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence. The sanctions targeted Nabil Ali Ahmed – reportedly the head of the Currency Exchangers Association in Sanaa – and the Yemen-based Nabco Money Exchange and Remittance Co. and Al Raqda Exchange and Money Transfers Company.

MbS Picks Potential Peace With Yemen Over Joining US-Led Taskforce

Saudi Arabia is “uninterested" in being dragged back into war with Yemen to protect Israeli interests in the Red Sea, Saudi and US officials revealed to the New York Times (NYT). For the past several weeks, Washington has been looking to get its long-time Gulf partner involved in the so-called Operation Prosperity Guardian. This US-led naval taskforce claims to defend Israeli-linked commercial vessels from Yemeni attacks in the Red Sea. This includes pressuring Riyadh to walk away from a potential peace deal with Yemen, with offers of new military training for the Saudi army and promises to lift an arms embargo on offensive weapons imposed by the White House.

Biden Tries To Rein In Spain After Veto Of EU Entry In Anti-Yemen Taskforce

US President Joe Biden spoke with his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez on 22 December to discuss bilateral relations and the “dramatic situation” in Gaza. The NATO partners “stressed the importance of ensuring the conflict does not expand in the region, to include condemning ongoing [Yemeni] attacks against commercial vessels in the Red Sea,” the White House readout of the call highlights. However, the official readouts do not mention Spain's role in the recently announced Operation Prosperity Guardian, as reports in Spanish media have revealed that Sanchez's office ordered Madrid's mission in Brussels to veto the participation of EU naval forces in the anti-Yemen coalition.
