Energy Secretary Claims Trump ‘Wants To Use Force’ Against Venezuela

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that President Donald Trump wants to use force to compel political change in Venezuela. Wright’s remarks were made during an interview with Fox News on Sunday, May 11. “President Trump wants to use United States force, our energy independence, to force change in Venezuela,” the US regime’s energy secretary said. Using the allegation of the migration of criminal gang Tren de Aragua, which the Venezuelan government has reported is extinct, Wright added: “We need to change the situation in Venezuela, not just for Venezuelans, but for all gang members and the refugees fleeing that country, and ‘millions’ of them ending up in the United States.”

Argument For Suspending Habeas Corpus Is Legal Garbage

If White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller is to be believed, Team Trump is poised to drive another stake through the heart of the Constitution. On May 9, Miller told reporters that the administration is considering whether to suspend the right to habeas corpus – known as “The Great Writ” – in immigration cases. Suspending habeas corpus, which allows individuals to challenge the legality of their detention in court, would be unconstitutional.

Ryan Coogler, Shedeur Sanders, Karmelo Anthony, Rodney Hinton, Jr

Ryan Coogler, Shedeur Sanders, Karmelo Anthony, and Rodney Hinton, Jr. have all captured the collective Black imagination, although for very different reasons. A successful film director, an athlete and two Black men in the throes of a punishing legal system are all the recipients of support and love from millions of Black people. It is true that the love of a “Black face in a high place” is a problematic phenomenon, but it is also true that Black people will rally around their own. That commendable instinct seems to be reserved for individuals, and not for the masses as a whole, and therein lies a problem.

Immigrant Rights Advocates Fortify Against Threats To ‘Sanctuary State’

San Diego-based attorney Ian Seruelo received three separate reports in March alone about local county Sheriff Kelly Martinez violating California’s immigration policy. The California Values Act, also known as Senate Bill 54 (SB 54), ensures that local law enforcement will not cooperate with immigration authorities to deport individuals. For Seruelo, the violations were an example of how the Trump administration continues to target California’s “sanctuary state” law. “There is already that atmosphere of fear in our community, very, very high. Never in my 10 years of practice have I experienced this level [of fear],” said Seruelo, who is also chair of the San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium, a coalition of more than 50 organizations.

How Much Longer Must Mothers In Gaza Fear Losing Their Children?

This spring, with hands overflowing with tenderness, Lolo Mando Al-Qishawi — a Palestinian mother living on Yaffa Street in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood in the eastern part of Gaza City — lovingly adorned her daughter in her Eid dress, her eyes reflecting the girl’s pure, uncontainable joy. But soon, those same hands, trembling with heartbreak, had to strip away the colors of celebration, wrapping her child instead in the cold, final cloth of farewell. Eid Al-Fitr was meant to be a day of blessings, but instead it turned into a haunting sorrow as a mother’s heart was shattered. How had happiness vanished so swiftly? What cruel twist of fate had stolen away her sweet, innocent girl, who had wished for nothing more than a simple, joyful Eid?

US Abandons ‘Hamas Disarmament’ Demands In Gaza Truce Talks

The US government has dropped its demand for Hamas to disarm as a precondition for a ceasefire in Gaza, Egyptian sources revealed to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed. “US negotiators conveyed to Egyptian intermediaries that the issue of Hamas's disarmament could be addressed at a later stage, rather than being an immediate requirement for a ceasefire agreement,” the Qatari-owned news outlet reports. The unnamed source added that US President Donald Trump's “inner circle” is convinced of the “futility” of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's strategy to free the captives via military pressure, believing that no military option will help save the Israeli captives in Gaza.

Jordan Arrests BDS Movement Coordinator Hamza Khader

Last week, Jordanian authorities arrested Hamza Khader, the coordinator of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement in Jordan, and took him to an undisclosed location for investigation. According to BDS, Khader was arrested on Tuesday, May 6, over social media posts. BDS Jordan issued a statement on Wednesday, May 7, denouncing the arrest of Khader, saying that “it constitutes a clear violation of the fundamental rights of Jordanians to freedom of opinion, freedom of speech and peaceful assembly, which are guaranteed by the Jordanian constitution and the international conventions.” The movement criticized the Jordanian authorities’ use of broadly-worded provisions of the Cybercrime Laws to crackdown on individuals, who express their solidarity with the Palestinian cause, which “represents the conscience of the vast majority of Jordanian nationals.”

Multiple Western Press Outlets Have Suddenly Pivoted Hard Against Israel

After a year and a half of genocidal atrocities, the editorial boards of numerous British press outlets have suddenly come out hard against Israel’s onslaught in Gaza. The first drop of rain came last week from The Financial Times in a piece by the editorial board titled “The west’s shameful silence on Gaza,” which denounces the US and Europe for having “issued barely a word of condemnation” of their ally’s criminality, saying they “should be ashamed of their silence, and stop enabling Netanyahu to act with impunity.” Then came The Economist with a piece titled “The war in Gaza must end,” which argues that Trump should pressure the Netanyahu regime for a ceasefire, saying that “The only people who benefit from continuing the war are Mr Netanyahu, who keeps his coalition intact, and his far-right allies, who dream of emptying Gaza and rebuilding Jewish settlements there.”

Grieving Black Father Avenges Son’s Slaying By Killing A Police Officer

Around 2:00 in the morning, a white police officer–who would later acknowledge that the unarmed teenager startled him– fatally shot Thomas once in the chest. Three days later, the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood was on fire. Thomas’ death brought to 15 the number of African American men killed by Cincinnati police officers between 1995 and 2001. In the most high-profile of these cases, police mistook Roger Owensby Jr.--a sergeant in the U.S. Army who had no criminal record—for a drug dealer, put him in a chokehold, maced, and beat him. Officers were tried and acquitted. Thomas’ killing was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.

Google’s Acquisition Of An Israeli Software Company: Big Tech’s Complicity In Genocide

At a time when global concern is mounting over the crimes committed against civilians in Gaza, and calls are increasing to halt the genocide being carried out by Israel, recent news reveals a more dangerous role played by giant tech companies in fueling the Israeli war machine. In July 2024, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, announced the completion of its acquisition of the Israeli company Wiz for an unprecedented amount — $32 billion in cash. The move was described as the largest acquisition in Google’s history. But this deal goes beyond being merely a business investment; it reveals the depth of moral and technical involvement Silicon Valley companies have in supporting the economy of the Israeli occupation, and even in financing its military and intelligence arms.

The Obscenity Of Collective Punishment In Gaza

Maybe you remember an incident like this from your schooldays. Someone in your class has done something wrong, like pass around a caricature of the principal, and the teacher decides to punish the whole class by taking away your recess. Maybe this is done to force the culprit to confess, or to pressure you and your classmates to point the finger. It’s a clever method of drafting students to help police the classroom. Such tactics of collective punishment have fallen out of favor for obvious reasons. They’re unfair. They don’t change behavior. They teach all the wrong lessons and make kids hate school.

Who Defeated The Nazis? A Colloquy

On June 6, 2019 President Trump commemorated the 75th Anniversary of Operation Overlord, popularly known as D-Day, when approximately 160,000 U.S., British, Canadian and Free French soldiers landed in and around the beaches of Normandy, France. Speaking at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, where the remains of 9,388 American fighting men, most of whom perished on D-Day, are interned, Trump promoted the mythology of American omniscience that was born on the beaches of Normandy. … For Americans, D-Day stands out among all others when it comes to celebrating the Second World War.

Trump Is Targeting Sanctuary Cities

In late April, the White House issued yet another executive order threatening to withhold federal funds from all “sanctuary” jurisdictions, calling their lack of cooperation with federal immigration authorities “a lawless insurrection against the supremacy of Federal law.” The executive order directs the Department of Justice, attorney general and Secretary of Homeland Security to provide a list of all sanctuary cities in order to suspend or terminate federal funding, including grants and contracts. Earlier this year, Trump’s Department of Justice directed federal prosecutors to investigate and criminally charge public officials who do not comply with federal immigration enforcement.

The Coming Purge Of Trans Troops In Context Of Broader LGBTQ Struggle

Trump and Hegseth have a two-pronged agenda for the US military: the first is its use as a domestic police and repression force, which I wrote about in January. The second is to Make the Military Warfighters Again–based on the ultra-online belief that the ranks have become a liberal bastion catering to unqualified slobs and woke indoctrination. The belief they must be transformed into a singular VetBro archetype, a military that will look really badass on Instagram–most importantly, no posts by soldiers that Libs of TikTok could share. (They think there’s too many women, too).

Crimes In The West Bank

In 1948, the newly proclaimed Israeli government seized 78% of Palestinian land and expelled more than half of the population (750,00 people) from their villages and towns. This act disregarded United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181 (1947), which called for the termination of the colonial British Mandate and the partition of Palestine into a Palestinian and a Jewish state. This process came to be known as the Nakba (Catastrophe). The Palestinians gathered in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the neighbouring Arab states in the hope that they would soon be able to return to their homes.
