ICC Arrest Warrants Requested For Israeli Officials And Hamas

We are joined by Ajamu Baraka, a Black Agenda Report contributing editor, Chair of the Black Alliance for Peace Coordinating Committee, and a former Green Party vice presidential candidate. We will discuss the International Criminal Court, the ICC, and the announcement that Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan is applying for arrest warrants of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant who, “bear criminal responsibility for a number of international crimes committed since October 8, including starvation as a weapon of war, murder, intentionally attacking civilians, extermination, persecution, and other crimes against humanity." But the ICC is also applying for warrants for Hamas Politburo leader Ismail Hania, Gaza leader Yahya Sinwar and the chief of its military wing, Mohammed Dief, saying they are responsible for crimes including extermination, murder, hostage taking, torture and rape.

Wanted By International Criminal Court, Netanyahu To Address Congress

Mike Johnson, Republican Speaker of the US House of Representatives, said on 23 May that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will soon address a joint meeting of the Congress. “Tonight, I’m happy to announce ... we will soon be hosting Prime Minister Netanyahu at the Capitol for a joint session of Congress,” Johnson said during a speech at an Israeli embassy event. Johnson said during the speech that Netanyahu’s upcoming address will be “a strong show of support for the Israeli government in their time of greatest need.” The announcement comes as officials from the administration of US President Joe Biden have made increasingly critical comments on Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza.

Our Operations In The Red Sea Are Consistent With The World’s Demands

The spokesperson of Yemen’s Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, recently announced Phase 4 of their military escalation against Israel and threatened to hit targets that “the Zionist enemy” has not yet thought to be possible. In conjunction with this, airstrikes have been repeatedly launched by the UK and U.S. fighter jets against sites across northern Yemen. Yemen’s Ansar Allah has been propelled into the international spotlight since imposing a blockade in the Red Sea against Israel in an act of solidarity with Gaza during the ongoing war. Yet, we rarely hear directly from the group, known in the West as the “Houthi Rebels”, for its response to various allegations leveled at it and why it continues to fight on behalf of Palestinians.

Mustafa Barghouti On The Role Of The Palestinian Diaspora In The Struggle

Our struggle today, as Palestinian people, our struggle today and our revolution is not only to end occupation and it’s not only to bring down this system of racism and discrimination, and not only to eliminate the results of the ethnic cleansing that took place in 1948, but more than that, it is now, as every Palestinian must understand, about a struggle to bring down the whole system of settler colonialism that has been attacking our people during more than 100 years. And the role of the Palestinian diaspora today is even bigger than any time before. I know that many of you have felt during many decades, during the last maybe 30 years, you felt marginalized.

Israel Responds To ICJ Ruling To Halt Rafah Assault By Massacring Dozens

Israel escalated its attacks on civilians in Gaza on 24 May in response to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling ordering Israel to cease its military operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Friday's ruling by the ICJ came as part of an ongoing case to determine if Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. The ruling is a provisional measure to halt Israeli military action in response to its ongoing attack on Rafah, which has killed hundreds of Palestinians and displaced hundreds of thousands who had already been displaced by Israeli bombing in Gaza's north. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied the allegations in the case brought by South Africa that Israel was carrying out genocide in Gaza as "false, outrageous and morally repugnant."

Unity Through Resistance: 3,000 Pro-Palestine Activists Converge In Detroit

With 3,000 people and hundreds of pro-Palestine organizations converging in a metropolitan area with the largest concentration of Arab Americans, amidst the largest movement for Palestine in US history, the People’s Conference for Palestine feels nothing short of historic. “Eternal glory to our martyrs, speedy recovery to our wounded, and freedom for our steadfast prisoners,” Mohammed Nabulsi, leader in the Palestinian Youth Movement in Houston, Texas, opened the conference with these explicitly revolutionary invocations on the first day on Friday, May 24. “In the last eight months, we, the Palestinian people, have demonstrated to the entire world, that the only way we can author our own history, and transform our present reality, is the path of unity through resistance.”

University Of California Student Workers Begin Historic Political Strike

On May 20, University of California (UC) student and postdoc workers at the Santa Cruz campus began a historic strike against the repression of the student movement. UAW 4811, which represents over 48,000 workers, voted last week to authorize a strike in response to intense repression unleashed against students and faculty protesting for Palestine. Administrators at several University of California campuses invited in the police, who violently arrested and injured students, faculty, and staff. Many workers and students across the UC system also face disciplinary action from their universities, including suspension.

Israel’s Extortion Leaflets And Namecheap: Corporate Accountability

On Friday Israel dropped another set of leaflets on Gaza. Israel’s use of leaflets for its psychological torture of the besieged Palestinian population is well known in these genocidal days. Ominous, gloating, taunting, and sadistic messaging is the lingua franca of these leaflets, which Israel claims is a humanitarian effort to evacuate the civilian population. Some of the most common leaflet content are calls to contact Israel’s secret service with information on Hamas or the Israeli hostages. The purpose of these particular leaflets is twofold: coercion of protected civilians to obtain information (which is a violation of the law of armed conflict); but most of all, to undermine the trust and cohesion of a community under siege and annihilation.

Now, International Criminal Court Must Investigate British Ministers Too

With the ICC’s chief prosecutor issuing an application for an arrest warrant against Israel’s prime minister for “war crimes and crimes against humanity,” attention must turn to those who have aided Israel. British ministers have for months been materially assisting Israel during its onslaught against Palestinians in Gaza. This support is being provided in three main ways. First, the U.K. is providing arms to Israel. Recently filed court documents reveal that, as of January this year, the U.K. government had 28 extant and 28 pending “high-risk” licences with Israel marked as “most likely to be used by the IDF in offensive operations in Gaza.”

Activists Arrested At Protest Of Biden In Detroit

Detroit police arrested protesters, including members of Left Voice and Detroit Will Breathe (DWB,) at a demonstration outside of “Genocide” Joe Biden’s speech at the NAACP dinner. The protest was organized by several different Detroit based activist organizations and stood in solidarity with the people of Gaza against Biden’s continued support for the genocide.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 227: ICC Seeks Warrants For Netanyahu, Galant

Chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in an interview on Monday, May 20, that the ICC would be seeking arrest warrants for Israeli leaders and Hamas officials on charges of “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” on October 7 and during the war on Gaza. The ICC prosecutor told Amanpour that the application for the arrest warrants, if granted by the ICC’s panel of judges, included Hamas’s leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar, Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh, Qassam Brigades commander Muhammad al-Deif, and most notably, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli war minister Yoav Gallant.

Morehouse Students Show Solidarity With Gaza During Biden Speech

Advisers for U.S. President Biden reportedly saw Morehouse College, a historically Black men’s college in Atlanta where he gave the commencement address Sunday, as a school where the president was unlikely to face protests over his continued support for Israel’s assault on Gaza, which has been the subject of mass demonstrations led by students at universities across the country over the past month. But students and faculty made clear at the ceremony that many of them, like others in higher education, are intent on sending Biden a strong message of disapproval over his Israel policy. A number of faculty members and students wore keffiyehs, the traditional scarves worn in parts of the Middle East including Palestine, and by some supporters of Palestinian rights to show solidarity with civilians in Gaza.

Unpacking The Israeli Campaign To Deny The Gaza Genocide

On Saturday, May 11, the Jerusalem Post under editor Yuval Barnea came out with a sensational headline: “UN seemingly halves estimate of Gazan women, children killed.” The article featured two graphics from the UN, one from May 6 and one from May 8, both clearly noting that approximately 35,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 7, but the second specified that bodies that have been able to be identified were under 25,000. Out of these, the breakdown included 52% women and children, as well as 8% elderly. Earlier on, the UN noted that about 2/3 of fatalities are women and children. Now, the game of genocide denial has begun.

The Student Movement That Forced Ireland’s Trinity College To Divest

Right after Dublin native Ben turned 16, he spent his summer vacations working at event companies that organized concerts and comedy shows. Little did he know that three years later, that experience would help him organize — with nearly a hundred of his peers — a major protest of Trinity College Dublin’s ties with Israel. After five nights in tents on the grassy patch in front of the highly-visited Book of Kells Museum, Trinity acceded to the protesters’ demands and went down in history as one of the first universities to agree to divest from Israeli companies. “I always wanted to partake in effecting change, and this was an opportunity,” the philosophy and politics student said five days after the encampment ended.

Spain Denies Docking Permit To Ship Carrying Indian Arms For Israel

Spain will not authorize ships carrying weapons for Israel to call at its ports, Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said on 17 May, because Spain does not “want to contribute to war” in Gaza. Albares said the refusal was consistent with the government’s decision not to grant weapon export licenses to Israel since 7 October.  The announcement came after Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente confirmed in a social media post his country’s refusal to allow a ship carrying weapons to Israel to dock at the port of Cartagena in southeast Spain.  The Marian Danica, which was carrying approximately 27 tons of explosive materials from the Indian city of Madras to Israel, requested permission to arrive in Cartagena on 21 May, Spanish newspaper El Pais reported.
