Israeli war crimes

More Horrific Than Abu Ghraib And Guantánamo

On June 19, 2024, Khaled Mahajneh, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, became the first lawyer to visit a notorious detention facility for Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, located inside the Sde Teiman military base in the Negev Desert, one of several detention facilities established after October 7, 2023 to hold Palestinians seized in Gaza. Speaking to +972 Magazine a week after his visit, Mahanjeh drew a pertinent comparison with the treatment of Muslim prisoners in the US’s post-9/11 “war on terror”, but concluded that Israel’s behavior was even worse.

Winter In Gaza

On Saturday, 8 November, 2025, Dan Perry wrote in The Jerusalem Post about Israel’s projected lifting of the media blockade on Gaza. Perry laments that Israeli censorship has left all reporting of the atrocity in the hands of Palestinians, who refuse to be silent. To date, Israel has assassinated over 240 Palestinian journalists. Perry writes: “The High Court ruled last week that the government must consider allowing foreign journalists into Gaza but also granted a one-month extension due to the still-unclear situation in the Strip.” He asserts that Israel had and has no motive for excluding foreign journalists save concern for their own protection.

Arab Grassroots Decry Israel’s Flagrant ‘Piracy’ Against Flotilla

Day after day, Israel grows more and more audacious in its quest to impose its hegemony not only over the West Asia region, but also over the entire world, violating land, air, and international waters alike. Hundreds of peaceful international activists aboard over 40 civilian vessels were subjected to a brutal act of piracy on the high seas, just 75 miles away from the Gaza coast. Their boats were loaded with life-saving humanitarian aid for the forcibly-starved two-million-person population in the Gaza Strip. The activists were kidnapped and the ships were forcibly steered towards Israeli ports. Few governments took any action to prevent the mass abduction from happening. The interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla is a grave crime, which revealed that many Western countries are indifferent to the lives of their citizens when the offender is Israel.

Activists Launch Campaign To Expel Arms Company From Romania

A coalition of Romanian and international groups standing in solidarity with Palestine has launched the “Elbit Out!” campaign, aiming to expel Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems from Romania. Elbit is one of Israel’s largest arms manufacturers and is present in Romania with three companies, the organizers explain. “There, it manufactures components for weapons that have been tested on Palestinians and are partly still used in Gaza today.” According to statements of Israeli officials, Elbit facilities in Brașov and Bacău, along with a production site in Măgurele outside Bucharest, made Romania the company’s third-largest manufacturing hub in 2021 – behind only Israel and the United States. The arms producer’s presence has been a constant for years, with early 2010s reports already highlighting its peculiar position in Romania.

Washington Sanctions Palestinian Rights Groups For Aiding ICC

The US has imposed sanctions on three Palestinian human rights organizations that previously petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate Israel for war crimes in Gaza. “Today, the Trump Administration is sanctioning three NGOs – Al Haq, Al Mezan, and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights – for assisting in the ICC's illegitimate actions against Israel. The United States will continue to protect our own sovereignty and the sovereignty of our allies from the ICC's overreach,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on Thursday evening on X. The announcement first appeared as a notice on the US Treasury Department's website on Thursday. In November 2023, the organizations requested that the ICC investigate Israel for war crimes in response to its actions in Gaza, including carrying out airstrikes on heavily populated civilian areas, imposing a complete siege to cut off food, water, and electricity to the civilian population, and causing the mass displacement of residents.

DRAD Seeks Answers About US Government Role In ‘Slaughter Masquerading As Humanitarian Aid’

Yesterday, Defending Rights & Dissent filed two Freedom of Information Act requests to uncover details about the U.S. government’s relationship with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, the shadowy private aid group that has been mired in controversy since announcing efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza in early May. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) published a statement which declared that the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation distribution effort “is a slaughter masquerading as humanitarian aid.” The first FOIA request seeks internal State Department reports and communications about the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, as well as the U.S. government’s communications with Israel about the organization.

Over 170 NGOs Urge End To US–Israeli ‘Aid Traps’ In Gaza

More than 170 international NGOs, including Oxfam, Save the Children, Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, and the Norwegian Refugee Council, issued a joint declaration on 1 July in Geneva calling for an immediate end to the US-Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). According to medical authorities in Gaza, over 550 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured near GHF aid distribution sites and transport routes since the foundation began operating in late May. The statement warned that “Palestinians in Gaza face an impossible choice: starve or risk being shot while trying desperately to reach food to feed their families.”

Chris Hedges: Gaza’s Hunger Games

Israel’s weaponization of starvation is how genocides always end. I covered the insidious effects of orchestrated starvation in the Guatemalan Highlands during the genocidal campaign of Gen. Efraín Ríos Montt, the famine in southern Sudan that left a quarter of a million dead — I walked past the frail and skeletal corpses of families lining roadsides — and later during the war in Bosnia when Serbs cut off food supplies to enclaves such as Srebrencia and Goražde. Starvation was weaponized by the Ottoman Empire to decimate the Armenians. It was used to kill millions of Ukrainians in the Holodomor in 1932 and 1933.

Artists Speak Up Against Genocide In Gaza At Europe’s Music Festivals

As Europe’s summer music festival season rolls out, mainstream media and governments are struggling to keep Palestine solidarity off the stage. In its coverage of Glastonbury Festival, the BBC focused on censoring the Irish rap group Kneecap over their staunch pro-Palestinian stance – only to be met by a wave of artists who used their platform to call for a free Palestine and to demand broadcasters share real news about the Israeli genocide in Gaza. Among them was the British duo Bob Vylan, who led the crowd in chanting “Free, free Palestine” and “Death, death to the IDF,” denouncing war crimes committed by the Israeli army, including the starvation of children and the killing of civilians in humanitarian aid lines.

Chris Hedges Report: Starvation And Profiteering In Gaza

There is not much more that can be said about the unfathomable levels of devastation the genocide in Gaza has reached. Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, has been chronicling the genocide and joins host Chris Hedges on this episode of The Chris Hedges Report to shed light on the current situation in Gaza, including parts from her upcoming report on the profiteers of the genocide. Israel’s siege on the Palestinians is leaving the population starving, and Albanese lambasts other nations for not stepping up and completing their obligations under international law.

A Timeline Of Attacks On Starving Civilians At US-Backed GHF Aid Sites

On March 2, Israel announced the closure of Gaza’s main crossings, cutting off food, medical and humanitarian supplies, worsening a humanitarian crisis for 2.3 million Palestinians, according to reports by human rights organisations who have accused it of using starvation as a weapon of war against Palestinains. On May 27, the controversial US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) began its operations in the Gaza Strip, opening its first of four distribution points in Rafah in southern Gaza. After more than 80 days of total blockade, starvation, and growing international outrage, limited aid has allegedly been distributed by the GHF, a scandal-plagued organization backed by the US and Israel, created to bypass the UN’s established aid delivery infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.

How NYT Reports On Weaponized Famine So You Don’t Have To Give A Damn

More than two months ago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a complete blockade of aid—including food, water and medical supplies—from entering the besieged Gaza strip. It’s a severe escalation of Israel’s now 19-month genocide against Palestinians in Gaza—and what the World Health Organization (5/12/25) has described as “one of the world’s worst hunger crises, unfolding in real time.” With no replenishing stock, aid groups have begun running out of supplies to distribute to families in need. The UN Relief and Works Agency (5/16/25) reports that their “flour and food parcels have run out,” and that “one third of essential medical supplies are already out of stock.”

77 Years Of Dispossession: Everything You Need To Know About The Nakba

May 15 marks the 77th anniversary of the Nakba — the destruction of historic Palestine, the catastrophe of dispossession, and the mass ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population in 1948, which continues to this day. The Arabic word ‘Nakba’ means ‘catastrophe’, with this day designated as Nakba Day. The Balfour Declaration, a pledge by British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour in November 1917, is regarded as one of the main catalysts for the Nakba. The pledge came in the form of a letter written on behalf of the British government by the then Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Lord Walter Rothschild, “a figurehead of the British Jewish community, for circulation among the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland,” according to the Geneva International Center for Justice.

Senior UN Official: ‘It Will Be Too Late’ To Rule It ‘Genocide’

The U.N.’s humanitarian affairs chief held nothing in reserve on Tuesday at the U.N. Security Council as he unloaded on the State of Israel for deliberately starving the civilian population of Gaza. “The ICJ is considering whether a genocide is taking place in Gaza,” Tom Fletcher said, “It will weigh the testimony that we have shared. But it will be too late.” With the Israel and U.S. representatives sitting opposite him, he demanded: “What more evidence do you need now? Will you act – decisively – to prevent genocide and to ensure respect for international humanitarian law? Or will you say instead that ‘we did all we could?’” Video: 20min, 12sec. Below is the full transcript of Fletcher’s remarks

How Much Longer Must Mothers In Gaza Fear Losing Their Children?

This spring, with hands overflowing with tenderness, Lolo Mando Al-Qishawi — a Palestinian mother living on Yaffa Street in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood in the eastern part of Gaza City — lovingly adorned her daughter in her Eid dress, her eyes reflecting the girl’s pure, uncontainable joy. But soon, those same hands, trembling with heartbreak, had to strip away the colors of celebration, wrapping her child instead in the cold, final cloth of farewell. Eid Al-Fitr was meant to be a day of blessings, but instead it turned into a haunting sorrow as a mother’s heart was shattered. How had happiness vanished so swiftly? What cruel twist of fate had stolen away her sweet, innocent girl, who had wished for nothing more than a simple, joyful Eid?
