A World Where Our Grandchildren Have To Go To A Museum To See What A Gun Looked Like

In 1919, Winston Churchill wrote, ‘I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes’. Churchill, grappling at the time with the Kurdish rebellion in northern Iraq as Britain’s secretary of state for war and air, argued that such use of gas ‘would spread a lively terror and yet would leave no serious permanent effects on most of those affected’. Gas warfare had first been employed by France in August 1914 (during World War I) using tear gas, followed by Germany with the use of chlorine in April 1915 and phosgene (which enters the lungs and causes suffocation) in December 1915.

Evo Morales Survives Armed Attack In Cochabamba

Former Bolivian president Evo Morales reported that he survived an armed attack and an alleged attempt at capture early this morning while traveling on the road connecting Villa Tunari with Shinahota, in the Cochabamba Tropics, an area considered his main political stronghold. The attack comes amid a growing internal crisis in the Movement for Socialism (MAS), the party founded by Morales, which is currently facing divisions and power disputes among its various factions. “The first vehicle was hit by at least four shots. In this situation, Evo Morales changed vehicle hastily, it was hit by 14 shots. In that last vehicle, the driver was hit by a shot that grazed his head and another hit him in the arm” says a statement published by Morales in X.

John Mearsheimer’s Folly: How Whites Agree To Misinterpret The World

Mearsheimer’s bizarre remarks on the absence of systemic racism in the U.S. would suggest that he is a signatory to what the late Jamaican philosopher Charles Mills dubbed the “Racial Contract” in which whites agree to deliberately misinterpret the world in an effort to qualify the genocide, colonization, and slavery of nonwhite peoples. In his eponymous book, Mills wrote that the Racial Contract “…establishes a racial polity, a racial state and a racial (judicial) system, where the status of whites and nonwhites is clearly demarcated, whether by law or custom. And the purpose of this state …is to maintain and reproduce this racial order, securing the privileges and advantages of the full white citizens and maintaining the subordination of whites.”

Haiti: Resistance Under Attack, Calls For International Solidarity

VIV ANSANM (the paramilitary gang strangely named “Live Together”) has plunged our population into a terrible darkness in Solino, Fò Nasyonal, Nazon, Kriswa and other nearby popular neighborhoods or ghettos in Port-au-Prince. None of us are free to leave our homes. We don’t know which way to go. The bloodthirsty death squads kill the poor and unfortunate inside their shacks. They burn through homes and memories. We, the population of Solino, have long resisted this barbarism. Stand with us, We need help! The neocolonial Haitian state and their foreign masters lay the basis of these massacres. We cannot continue in this situation. Solidarity is our only hope.

APIII Militia Infiltrator Warns Of Danger To 2024 Elections

A new set of leaks from inside the Telegram chats of the American Patriots Three Percent militia group (AP3 or APIII) reveal a sprawling network buzzing with activity. We got in touch with someone who infiltrated this group for around two years; they gave us a full explanation of why they spent so long trying to get into the group’s leadership circles, which span many states. ‘The infiltrator’ wrote, “I spent two years infiltrating right-wing terrorist groups. I can say firsthand that voters are at risk on Election Day.” An investigation ProPublica released in August is based in part on the same overall group of leaks. While no one in APIII has caught terrorism charges, the infiltrator has emerged with a lot of receipts which raises questions of whether APIII has violated laws around voter intimidation.

‘We Can’t Arrest Our Way To Liberation’

Palestinians and Palestinian businesses have been frequent targets since the genocide in Gaza began. When we opened, we thought that it would only be a matter of time before someone attacked us. And on a recent evening, someone smashed the window where we displayed our flag. At least two other nearby businesses, the bookstore Women & Children First and the clothing store Naaz Studios, were also attacked in recent months in similar ways. And as we know all too well, attacks on businesses that support Palestinian liberation are just a small slice of the overall violence we have seen over the past year.

Ohio: Haitian Group Files Criminal Complaint Against Trump, Vance

A grassroots immigrant advocacy group filed a complaint seeking criminal charges in Springfield, Ohio, against former President Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance (R), over their role in elevating false allegations about Haitian immigrants abducting and eating local pets. The complaint, filed by Haitian Bridge Alliance (HBA) in Clark County Municipal Court, alleges that Trump and Vance, by amplifying those claims, had a “direct impact” in spurring the 33 bomb threats that rocked the southwest Ohio city. “Like those who falsely shout ‘fire!’ in a crowded theater, Trump and Vance do not color within the lines of the First Amendment. They commit criminal acts,” the group said.

Petition: Demand Urgent International Protection Force For Palestine

It is now clear that Israel will not comply with international demands and legal requirements to cease its massacre of the Palestinian people. In addition to its relentless bombing in Gaza, violence towards Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is rapidly escalating. Today, the IOF conducted a raid on Al-Jazeera in Ramallah and forced its closure. In the wider context of Israel's unrestrained violence, it appears likely that the IOF, combined with the illegal settlers, are preparing for a full scale campaign of terror against Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Yesterday, I launched an online petition addressed to government leaders worldwide to establish an international military force to protect Palestinian civilians.

New Yorkers Protest NYPD Shooting Three On Subway

Brooklyn, NY – On September 18, close to a hundred people came out to protest the NYPD shooting 3 civilians on the subway. The protest was organized by the New York Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NYAARPR). On Sunday, September 15, two NYPD officers followed a 49-year-old man, Derell Mickles, up several flights of stairs at the Sutter Avenue L train station in Brownsville. They suspected that Mickles skipped the $2.90 fare and proceeded to follow him closely. A confrontation ensued and an officer drew their gun after Mickles allegedly pulled a knife—which NYPD has said they have lost. An officer responded by shooting, hitting Mickles, two bystanders and his fellow officer.

Israeli Army Kills American Activist In Occupied West Bank

An American woman was shot and killed by Israeli forces during a protest in Beita near Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank on Friday. On Friday morning the State Department confirmed that Aysenur Eygi, a 26-year-old American citizen born in Turkey, had died. Two Palestinian doctors told the AP that Eygi had been shot in the head and died after arriving at the local hospital. “We tried to save the American citizen, we tried to revive the heart for several stages, but unfortunately, we did not succeed in restoring the heart to function,” said Rafidia Hospital director Dr. Fouad Naffa. “We are deeply disturbed by the tragic death of an American citizen, Aysenur Egzi Eygi, today in the West Bank and our hearts go out to her family and loved ones,” said White House National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett

Repression Backfires In Pakistan

In July, hundreds of thousands of people set out for a national gathering in Gwadar, a picturesque port city on the Arabian sea in Balochistan — Pakistan’s largest, but least populated, province. Making their way through an expanse of mountainous desert were the members of a severely oppressed community, the Baloch, whose population extends into neighboring Iran and Afghanistan. At this first-of-its-kind national gathering, called Baloch Raji Munchi, people were planning to press their demand for an end to enforced disappearances, wrongful arrests and extrajudicial killings — all of which have been rampant across the province since its annexation in 1948.

The ‘Comanditos,’ The Terrorist Network Of Fascism In Venezuela

The “comanditos” were part of an organizational strategy promoted by the Venezuelan far-right opposition leader, María Corina Machado. The fundamental purpose was to organize society into small groups that would serve as hotbeds of violence in different parts of the country. The organizational strategy revealed different stages. The first was the dissemination of the strategy using hegemonic media. These were in charge of disseminating manipulated information, explaining in detail the masked meaning of the strategy. According to the Diario Nacional, the “comanditos” were defined as a “crucial force for the success of the opposition’s strategy of motivating citizen participation in adverse conditions.”

Israel Launches Largest Occupied West Bank Offensive Since Second Intifada

Israel launched its largest offensive on the occupied West Bank since the Second Intifada, attacking three cities - Jenin, Tulkarm and Tubas - from land and air. Drone strikes were reported in the three cities as troops opened fire at Palestinians on the ground, killing at least nine people, including seven in Tubas and two in Jenin, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The assault began just after midnight local time (21:00 GMT) after undercover Israeli soldiers entered the Jenin refugee camp and the Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarm. In Tubas, Israeli troops arrived via military helicopters and led the assault there, particularly in the Far'a refugee camp, according to Israeli and Palestinian media.

How The US Could Have Won The Venezuelan Election

Don’t ask what business the US had in backing a candidate in Venezuela’s July 28 presidential election. Certainly that was not a question that the corporate press ever asked. Of course, the US should never have been meddling in Venezuelan elections in the first place. But given the machinations of the hemisphere’s hegemon, it is instructive to examine why and who Washington backed. It came as no surprise that the US-backed opposition called the 2024 Venezuelan presidential election fraudulent when they lost. They had announced that intention before the election. Cries of fraud have been the far-right’s practice in nearly every one of the 31 national contests since the Bolivarian Revolution began a quarter of a century ago, except for the two contests lost by the Chavistas, the movement founded by Hugo Chávez and carried on by his successor Nicolás Maduro.

Global Water-Related Conflicts Reached A Record High In 2023

According to a new report from the nonprofit Pacific Institute, violent conflicts over water increased sharply in 2023. The report found there were nearly 350 water-related conflicts globally last year, a record high. The latest update to Pacific Institute’s Water Conflict Chronology has revealed a huge increase in the number of water-related conflicts in 2023 compared to just 2022, with around a 150% rise. In 2022, there were 231 recorded conflicts over water, compared to the 347 recorded for 2023. In comparing to recent decades, the contrast is even more stark. In 2000, there were just 22 water-related conflicts worldwide, Pacific Institute reported.
