The last remaining nuclear arms control treaty between the United States and Russia — New START — is set to expire on Feb. 5, 2026.
This treaty, which caps the nuclear arsenals of both nations at 1,550 deployed strategic nuclear weapons each, was signed back in 2010, during the administrations of U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev. At that time, the two nations were engaged in what proved to be an abortive “reset” of relations.
But the underlying problems which prompted the need for a reset — NATO expansion, continued U.S. pursuit of hegemony disguised as a “rules based international order” and a general U.S. disregard for arms control as a necessary mechanism of global stability — were never fully addressed
Labor Department: Immigration Raids Are Causing A Food Crisis

The Department of Labor’s new rule cutting farmworker wages bluntly states that souped-up immigration enforcement has devastated the agricultural workforce and created a significant “risk of supply shock-induced food shortages,” according to a document filed in the Federal Register last week. The document also indicates that American workers are simply not interested in and do not have the skills to perform agricultural jobs, at odds with Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins’s claim that the farm workforce will soon be 100 percent American.

8 October 2025 – The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and Thousand Madleens to Gaza (TMTG) confirm that three boat : Gaza Sunbirds, Alaa Al-Najajr, Anas Al-Sharif, have been attacked and illegally intercepted by the Israeli military at 04:34 at 120 nautical miles (220km) from Gaza.
Sources so far indicate that the unarmed crew aboard, including doctors, journalists, and elected officials, have been abducted, as well as the vital aid worth over $110,000 USD in medicines, respiratory equipment, and nutritional supplies that were destined for Gaza’s starving hospitals. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
“Israel has no legal authority to detain international volunteers aboard these ships,” David Heap, Canadian Boat to Gaza and Freedom Flotilla Coalition Steering Committee.
Is The UN Charter Worth The Paper It’s Written On?

Before raining bombs and missiles on Korea, Iraq, Libya, and Syria, the US at least requested authorization from the UN Security Council (UNSC) in accordance with the UN Charter, sometimes getting it, sometimes not. This year it skipped that nicety altogether, bombing Iran without so much as a call to Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Israel didn’t bother to make its case either, knowing that the US had its back.
The US did send the Council a ridiculous explanation after the fact. It said it had to neutralize an Iranian nuclear threat and claimed its inherent right of self-defense and collective self-defense with its ally Israel, citing the Charter’s Article 51. However, Article 51 reads, “Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations . . .”

October 7, 2025, marks two years since the Al-Aqsa Flood boldly asserted the collective human right of the Palestinian resistance to oppose colonial occupation while dealing a death blow to the perceived invincibility of the zionist regime. In response, the imperialist coalition protecting israel – led by the United States – has intensified its genocide of the Palestinian people, extending its barbarous terror to any and all defenders of the Palestinian cause.
The U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM – which oversees an estimated 58 U.S. military bases and installations across North Africa and West & Central Asia – has played a key role in the occupation of Palestine, as well as in the violent destabilization and exploitation of the region and its peoples as a whole.

The world as we know it died two years ago today, on October 7, 2023 — but not, as we’ve been incessantly bludgeoned into believing, because Palestinian resistance fighters who broke out of the “open-air prison” of the Gaza Strip went on a killing spree in southern Israel in a desperate response to 75 years of persistent oppression, apartheid and murder by the State of Israel.
Those attacks — horrific as they were, with 1,195 people killed and 251 others taken hostage (although it should be noted that no one knows how many were killed by Israeli forces themselves under the notorious Hannibal Directive) — were portrayed by Israel as a genocide, and as an existential threat to their very existence by sub-human monsters, but that was clearly untrue.

Those were an eventful few days as the General Assembly convened at the United Nations Secretariat in New York Sept. 22. France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco and Andorra formally recognized the state of Palestine on the first day of the General Debate, Sept. 23. Britain, Canada, Australia and Portugal had done so two days earlier. With Spain, New Zealand, Finland, Ireland, Norway and other nations also recognizing, virtually the whole of the Western bloc except the United States now accepts Palestine as a sovereign state.
The imperium fades further into its corner. Always good.
And eventful days have followed all the new endorsements of the sovereignty of the Palestinian people. President Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, presented a grandly titled Gaza Peace Plan at the White House on Monday, Sept. 29.
Bringing A Howitzer To A Knife Fight: US Armada Off Venezuela

Donald Trump boasted striking small boats off Venezuela’s Caribbean coast to “blow the cartel terrorists the hell out of the water.” Claiming destruction of enough drugs to kill 25,000, he called the extrajudicial murders “an act of kindness.” Then he ominously hinted at a US land invasion of Venezuela now that the marine route for drugs had been obliterated.
The Miami Herald described the “precision strike” as targeting the Tren de Aragua (TdA) criminal organization. Then, in the very next sentence, the newspaper lauded the strike at the “heart of Venezuela’s Cartel de los Soles,” as if the two entities were one in the same. The rest of the article addressed the Cartel de los Soles, forgetting that it was TdA that had supposedly been blown out of the water.

Five days after the murder of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, Vice President JD Vance hosted Kirk’s podcast from the White House. The Trump administration has never been particularly friendly to dissent, but since the killing of Kirk it has increasingly sought to lay blame for his death on their political opponents.
While broadcasting from the White House, the vice president used the opportunity to rail against the left, promising to “dismantle the institutions that promote violence and terrorism in our own country.” Vance was joined by Stephen Miller who serves as the White House Deputy Chief of Staff as well as Trump’s Homeland Security Advisor. Miller pledged, “With God as my witness, we are going to use every resource we have at the Department of Justice, Homeland Security and throughout this government to identify, disrupt, eliminate and destroy this network and make America safe again for the American people.”

A federal judge ruled last week that the U.S. government likely engaged in retaliatory prosecution against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an immigrant who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador by the Trump administration earlier this year.
Waverly Crenshaw Jr., a federal judge based in Nashville, Tennessee, said in a 16-page order issued on Friday that there is a “realistic likelihood” that the human trafficking charges against Abrego Garcia were a “vindictive” action by the administration after he filed a successful lawsuit challenging his illegal deportation to El Salvador.
For several weeks after Abrego Garcia was initially deported in March, the White House insisted that he was sent to a “super-prison” in El Salvador because of alleged ties to the MS-13 gang, bizarrely citing his tattoos and the types of hats he wore as supposed evidence.

Pro-Palestinian activists who were on board the Global Sumud Flotilla reported being mistreated by Israeli authorities following their arrest last week.
One Spanish activist, Goretti Sarasibar, told Reuters after his deportation that the detainees were forced to watch videos of Hamas’s attack on 7 October 2023.
“They didn’t give us food all day,” he said. “Now we are super happy eating, as we were starving.”
Dutch activist Marco Tesh said he could not breathe at one point “because they put something to my face and they tied my hands to my back.”
Another one of the deported activists, Rafael Borrego, said, “At any time that any of us called a police officer, we risked that seven or more fully armed people entered to our cell, as they did on mine, pointing us with weapons at our heads, with dogs ready to attack us, and being dragged to the floor.”

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov came out of a meeting in New York on Sept. 24 with the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio showing a thumbs-up sign as he passed journalists.
It was a confusing signal so soon after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly shamed the Russian military as a “paper tiger” and stunned European capitals by saying that Ukraine could still “fight and win” all its land.
A charitable explanation could be that Trump was building the off ramp to hand the responsibility for Ukraine’s defence to the Europeans. He made a strong point that Europeans can and should do more.
That said, it is also noticeable that Trump’s initial sympathy for Russia has given way steadily to a more neutral position — a shift that accelerated last month.

The United States announced that it will allocate $1.8 billion to foreign aid projects with a political and strategic vision. According to a document sent to Congress, $400 million will go to Latin America, aimed at confronting the “regimes” of Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Cuba.
The Trump administration’s plan seeks to redirect resources toward programs to curb the influence of governments labeled by Washington as “anti-American,” extending its reach to Europe and Greenland in order to “contain China’s advance in strategic sectors.” This narrow and unilateral vision, which prioritizes Washington’s economic and security interests, far from promoting international cooperation based on mutual respect and solidarity, is based on a logic of confrontation that jeopardizes regional and global stability.
The 13th Largest Army In World Is Unleashing Violence In Chicago

If the immigration enforcement apparatus of the United States were its own national military, it would be the 13th most heavily funded in the world. This puts it higher than the national militaries of Poland, Italy, Australia, Canada, Turkey and Spain — and just below Israel.
That bloated force is due to a massive funding increase in President Donald Trump’s budget bill that went into effect October 1, and it comes as Chicagoland faces an escalation of violence from ICE and other federal agencies. Agents are tear gassing and beating protesters, raiding and ransacking communities across the area, and detaining people at homeless shelters and hospitals. They are roaming the city and surrounding suburbs in masks, sometimes in plain clothes and unmarked cars, and other times — especially near protests — in armored vehicles, wearing the militarized, camouflage uniforms that are the hallmark of soldiers.

Margaret Flowers: You left the United Nations on October 28th of 2023, the same month that Palestinians broke out of Gaza, which has been referred to as the world's largest open-air prison. Can you talk about how that impacted you and your decision to leave the United Nations?
Craig Mokhiber: 2023 was a particularly disturbing year for the world and also for me. When this new government took control in Palestine and Israel in the beginning of 2023, it immediately announced that the gloves were off and that the country's policy of incremental genocide that had gone on for decades would be replaced with an expedited form of attacking Palestinians. In the spring, there was a violent upsurge in racially-based attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, including full-scale pogroms in villages like Huwara, by Israeli settlers backed up by Israeli soldiers.
