Who’s Really The ‘Crazy’ In The Room In This Election

I recently received a comment to the post of my article ‘The 2nd First Presidential Debate’ that criticized me for leaning in favor of Trump, of even being a ‘closet Trumpist’. The comment went on to repeat ad nauseum the typical Democrat party election ‘talking points’ that pretty much just say ‘don’t vote for Trump because he’s crazy, a moral degenerate, etc.’ In other words, commentary that reflects a personalization and demonization of the issues and a failure to consider that much more may be at stake in this election besides personality traits. The commentator reflects the intense, fear mongering Democrat party messaging underway that so many Liberals in the Democrat camp regurgitate nowadays.

Israel Deliberately Blocked Humanitarian Aid To Gaza

The U.S. government’s two foremost authorities on humanitarian assistance concluded this spring that Israel had deliberately blocked deliveries of food and medicine into Gaza. The U.S. Agency for International Development delivered its assessment to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the State Department’s refugees bureau made its stance known to top diplomats in late April. Their conclusion was explosive because U.S. law requires the government to cut off weapons shipments to countries that prevent the delivery of U.S.-backed humanitarian aid. Israel has been largely dependent on American bombs and other weapons in Gaza since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 353: Israel Bombs Lebanon

At least 274 Lebanese have been killed and 1,024 have been wounded by Israeli airstrikes, the Lebanese Health Ministry said on Monday as Israeli bombings continue on dozens of Lebanese towns in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley in the eastern part of the country. On Monday morning, the Israeli army announced that it was going to engage in a “difficult day of fighting” in Lebanon, as its spokesperson claimed that Hezbollah was storing missiles in homes and civilian areas. The spokesperson illustrated a digital drawing made by the army as “proof” of his claims, calling upon Lebanese citizens — in Hebrew — to move away from sites tied to Hezbollah.

Netanyahu Plays Chicken

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is desperate to keep war simmering along and to draw the U.S. closer and closer to him. At the same time he cannot send ground forces into South Lebanon where they will take massive casualties. Israel can assassinate, it can employ indiscriminate terrorism and it can bombard from the air, and it has done all these things against Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Iran. But Israel cannot destroy Hamas or Hezbollah, cannot get back its hostages from Gaza and cannot make Northern Israel safe for its colonialists. Nothing Israel is doing in any way advances those declared objectives and in fact makes all of them increasingly unlikely ever to be attained.

Netanyahu Is Coming To New York City And Will Be Greeted By Mass Protest

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to deliver an address at the United Nations General Assembly later this week. On Thursday, September 26, several anti-imperialist organizations, organized under the Shut it Down For Palestine Coalition, are holding a demonstration denouncing Netanyahu’s visit and demanding that he be arrested for genocide and crimes against humanity. In August, International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan urged ICC judges to rule on his request for arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Khan had applied for arrest warrants back in May for the two top Israeli leaders for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Nearly 200 Killed Within Hours As Israel Expands Attacks On Lebanon

Over 180 people have been killed in a massive wave of Israeli airstrikes targeting southern and eastern Lebanon on 23 September. “These raids have led, until the issuance of this statement, to 182 martyrs and 727 wounded, including children, women and paramedics among the martyrs and wounded,” the Emergency Operations Center of the Lebanese Health Ministry said on Monday afternoon. The toll is expected to continue rising. Israeli airstrikes are also targeting the Bekaa region in eastern Lebanon. Hundreds of strikes have taken place in the last few hours. Several civilian homes have been targeted and destroyed in several villages, including Sohmor in the Bekaa and several areas in the south, Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Petition: Demand Urgent International Protection Force For Palestine

It is now clear that Israel will not comply with international demands and legal requirements to cease its massacre of the Palestinian people. In addition to its relentless bombing in Gaza, violence towards Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is rapidly escalating. Today, the IOF conducted a raid on Al-Jazeera in Ramallah and forced its closure. In the wider context of Israel's unrestrained violence, it appears likely that the IOF, combined with the illegal settlers, are preparing for a full scale campaign of terror against Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Yesterday, I launched an online petition addressed to government leaders worldwide to establish an international military force to protect Palestinian civilians.

Lebanon’s UK Envoy Warns Of ‘Doomsday’ Scenario For West Asia

An Israeli ground invasion of southern Lebanon would be a “doomsday” scenario leading to an all-out regional conflict and the radicalization of Muslims in Europe, a senior Lebanese diplomat warned in an interview with The Times on 20 September. Rami Mortada, Lebanon’s ambassador to the UK, warned that the UK-trained Lebanese army would not “stand idly” by and watch if Israel launches a ground invasion or “heavy aerial attack” on Lebanon. Israel has said it seeks to create a buffer zone in south Lebanon by pushing Hezbollah’s forces some 30 kilometers away from the Israel border to behind the Litani River. Since 8 October, Hezbollah has been striking Israeli military sites near the border with missiles and drones, forcing Israelis in the northern settlements to evacuate their homes. Hezbollah says it will continue targeting Israel until its genocide of Palestinians in Gaza is halted.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 349: Nasrallah Says ‘We Wish’ Israel Invades Lebanon

The Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, vowed “just punishment” against Israel in retaliation for the pager explosion attacks on Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday, which left 32 people killed and thousands injured. “The punishment will come,” Nasrallah declared. “But when, where, or how, is something that we will keep to ourselves, and even to the closest circle within ourselves.” Nasrallah’s declarations came in a live speech on Thursday, stating that Israel’s goal from the pager explosion attack was to “put a stop to the Lebanese front and separate it from Gaza.” “We received messages on Tuesday evening [following the explosions] saying that the aim of the explosions is to stop the [Lebanese] front, and was a threat that if we don’t stop, there will be more attacks,” Nasrallah indicated.

Defending Humanity

Anyone taking up the question of our shared humanity in the late summer of 2024 must begin with mention of the Gaza crisis, or — with the escalating violence in the West Bank — the wider Palestine crisis. These events are of world-historical magnitude. They challenge any idea of humanity we may have until now held as truths held to be self-evident, as we Americans would say. That seems to be over now. It is as if an era in the human story has ended, and we enter upon one that requires us to think again, maybe for the first time since the 1945 victories, when those who came before us looked back upon the wreckage of the 1930s and 1940s and asked, “Where is our humanity?”

Necessary Discomfort: The September 18 Career Fair Disruption

On Wednesday, students disrupted the ILR School’s Human Capital and HR Career Fair, which featured recruiters from weapons manufacturers Boeing and L3Harris. Students organized with the Coalition for Mutual Liberation successfully shut the event down using pots, pans and noisemakers in Statler Hall until both employers left the building. They also delivered an indictment to Boeing and L3Harris recruiters finding both companies guilty of aiding and abetting human rights violations, war crimes and genocide. This action has significantly altered incentive structures at our university. For the administration, it has been made clear that inviting arms manufacturers to our campus after 70 percent of students voted to sever ties with them will also invite the risk of a negative student response.

Boeing Should Stop Making Weapons For Genocide

Recently, Boeing employees, members of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM), voted overwhelmingly to not only turn down a terrible union backed tentative agreement, but go out on strike. These workers are showing they are willing to fight for more and are tired of being forced to cut corners on production, putting the public in danger to maximize profits for Boeing’s executives. If cutting corners wasn’t bad enough, Boeing’s leadership has focused on continuing to supply weapons to Israel supporting its genocidal campaign on Palestine. Boeing needs to stop making weapons for genocide and start fixing their planes.

PGFTU Calls For Unions To Support ‘Mask Off Maersk’ Campaign

The Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions has issued a statement marking nearly one year of resistance to genocide since October 7. Addressing their “Brothers and Sisters of trade and workers’ unions in North America, Europe, and the rest of the world,” the PGFTU calls on “the free world and the global labor movement to stand in a broad and pressing solidarity campaign with our people in Gaza.” The PGFTU expressed support for “dock workers unions in Africa, Europe, and other ports in taking action to stop the flow of weapons and disrupt the financial networks that finance the bombing of our people.”

The World’s Chance To Confront US-Israeli Genocide

On Wednesday, the General Assembly is scheduled to debate and vote on a resolution calling on Israel to end “its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory” within six months. Given that the General Assembly, unlike the exclusive 15-member Security Council, allows all members to vote and there is no veto in the General Assembly, this is an opportunity for the world community to clearly express its opposition to Israel’s brutal occupation of Palestine. If Israel predictably fails to heed a General Assembly resolution calling on it to withdraw its occupation forces and settlers from Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and the United States then vetoes or threatens to veto a Security Council resolution to enforce the ICJ ruling, then the General Assembly could go a step further.

South Africa To Sue US, UK For Complicity In Gaza Genocide

Nearly 50 South African lawyers, led by attorney Wikus Van Rensburg, are gearing up to file a lawsuit against the United States and the United Kingdom, asserting their complicity in Israeli forces' war crimes in Palestine, Anadolu Agency reports. This initiative follows South Africa's filing of a genocide case against "Israel" at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Rensburg, the driving force behind the legal action, aims to prosecute those complicit in the crimes through civilian courts, collaborating with legal professionals in the US and UK. In an interview with Anadolu, Rensburg emphasized the need to hold the US accountable for its actions and highlighted the forthcoming legal proceedings against Washington and London.
