Civil Disobedience In Hong Kong Or US Color Revolution Attempt?

As the saying goes, if it walks, talks, and quacks like a duck, chances are it is one. What’s been going on for months in Hong Kong has all the earmarks of a US orchestrated color revolution, aimed at destabilizing China by targeting it soft Hong Kong underbelly. In calling for reunification of China in the early 1980s, then-leader Deng Xiaoping said Hong Kong and Macau could retain their own economic, financial and governmental systems, Taiwan as well under a “one country, two systems” arrangement.

Police Have Killed 5,000 Americans Since Ferguson Protests

Friday marked five years since 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot at least six times, including once through the top of the head, and left for four-and-a-half hours to die in the street by Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson. Brown’s father, Michael Brown, Sr. used the grim anniversary to call for a reopening of the investigation into his son’s death. The killer cop has never been charged. “Justice has not been served,” Brown, Sr. said at a press conference Friday morning outside the St. Louis County Justice Services Center, not far from where Michael Brown was killed.

Climate Activists Set Sights On Ending Fossil Fuel Exports In Pacific Northwest Once And For All

When federal regulators came to Southern Oregon in June for hearings on a massive gas export project, they were greeted by a grassroots resistance movement 15 years in the making. About 800 people attended a series of four hearings put on by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC. Those speaking out against the gas project represented rural landowners, local governments, fisheries interests, tribal governments, and climate activist groups. “This project has brought people together from across the political spectrum,” said Rogue Climate campaigns director Allie Rosenbluth.

Brazilians Protest Bolsonaro’s Threats Against Glenn Greenwald

Brazilian journalists, artists, politicians, and activists came together Tuesday in support of journalist Glenn Greenwald who is being threatened by the government of far-right President Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro commented that United States journalist Glenn Greenwald "may be imprisoned" for publishing information in The Intercept Brazil that incriminates the nation’s Justice Minister Sergio Moro. The protest was held at the Brazilian Press Association in Rio de Janeiro where Greenwald and others spoke about press freedom.

‘No Pay, We Stay’; Protesting Miners In Harlan County Are Not Going Anywhere

People and organizations continued to stop by a railroad track in Cumberland Tuesday, bringing food and water to protesting miners. The miners have prevented a train hauling coal from the Cloverlick #3 mine for more than 24 hours. One group among the endless stream of supporters came from JonEvan Jack's in Corbin. They rolled their mobile kitchen to Harlan to feed the miners free of charge. "I just seen these people and they need help. I know what it's like to go without a paycheck," said owner Nathan Brown. "I think they already know their community supports them.

Activists Scale Crane And Blockade Lincolnshire Power Station Site

Climate change campaigners have climbed cranes and blockaded the entrance to the construction site at SSE’s Keadby 2 power station in Lincolnshire. The Reclaim The Power campaign group say they are trying to shut down the construction site just off the A18 west of Scunthorpe since this morning, with a number of protesters taking action against fossil fuels. The group want to shut down two major gas companies – Drax and SSE – saying “gas is a dirty fossil fuel and will lock us into climate breakdown”.

Eagan, MN – Protests shut down roads around Eagan’s Outlet Mall and miles of Minnesota Highway 13 on Saturday, July 27. About 100 protesters marched through the area seeking justice for 23-year-old student and entrepreneur, Isak Aden, who was killed by police after a standoff in the St. Paul suburb of Eagan in early July. Braving the mid-day summer heat, community members gathered at the parking lot in Eagan’s high-end Outlet Mall to continue to press their demands that Eagan Police release any of the police videos and transcripts related to Isak’s case.

Wall Street Demands “Discipline” As Protests Continue In Puerto Rico

Hours after Puerto Rican Governor Ricardo Rosselló’s early Thursday morning announcement that he will resign on August 2nd, thousands demonstrated in downtown San Juan demanding the resignation of his successor, Justice Minister Wanda Vázquez Garced. Both Rosselló and Vázquez are members of the New Progressive Party (PNP) and the Democratic Party. #WandaRenuncia quickly became one of the most popular Twitter hashtags while homemade signs Thursday featured the slogans, “this has not finished” and “we are cleaning the whole house.”

Protesters Block Entrance Of Coach Company Accused Of Helping The Government To Deport Migrants

Environmental activism group Reclaim the Power are protesting outside the entrance of a coach company accused of assisting the government with deportations. Three protesters have suspended themselves on tripods, blocking access to Hallmark Connections in Stanwell in an attempt to challenge what it claims is its “complicity in the violent deportations of asylum seekers in the UK”. A spokesperson for the group told i volunteers will remain there until the company agrees to end its involvement in deporting migrants.

Organizers of upcoming global climate strikes hope their demands for a rapid end to business as usual and a swift start to climate justice will be too loud to ignore. The strikes, which are set for September 20th and 27th—with additional actions slated for the days in between—are planned in over 150 countries thus far, and over 6,000 people have already pledged to take part. It has the potential to be the biggest climate mobilization yet, said organizers.

Hundreds marched through the rain Sunday afternoon to protest outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Williston. The demonstration was put on by the combined force of dozens of local activist groups including Women's March Vermont, Migrant Justice and the Peace and Justice Center. “If you’re taking children away from their mothers and leaving them in a room with no one to care for them, you need to quit your job,” said Bob Fishel, of Burlington.

Rosselló’s Gone, But Puerto Rico’s Fight Against Police Repression Continues

On Monday night, protesters were gathered outside of the governor’s mansion in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, as they had been for more than a week, in order to demand the resignation of Gov. Ricardo Rosselló. Although the protesters had been demonstrating in a peaceful manner all evening, around 10 pm, the police suddenly announced that a few protesters had become “aggressive” and then used their own claims as a pretext for a brutal crackdown. The police told members of the crowd that they had 10 minutes to evacuate before the police would start firing tear gas and forcibly removing protesters.
