United Nations Finds 70 Percent Of Gaza Deaths Women And Children

The majority of the casualties in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip have been women and children, according to a report released on 8 November by the UN Human Rights Office. According to the report, nearly 70 percent of the confirmed number of dead are women and children, which “demonstrates an apparent indifference to the death of civilians and the impact of the means and methods of warfare selected.” It also marks a “a systematic violation of the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law,” the report said. It notes that 80 percent of the deaths took place in residential buildings or in homes.

Report: Trump Plans UK-Style Attack On Israel Criticism

A second Trump administration could criminalize criticism of Israel’s genocide in Gaza as support for terrorism, along the lines of the British Terrorism Act, according to a report in Drop Site News. The report says the plan is to “break the pro-Palestinian movement in the U.S.” “The plan, dubbed ‘Project Esther,‘ casts pro-Palestinian activists in the U.S. as members of a global conspiracy aligned with designated terrorist organizations. As part of a so-called ‘Hamas Support Network,’ these protesters receive ‘indispensable support of a vast network of activists and funders with a much more ambitious, insidious goal — the destruction of capitalism and democracy,’ Project Esther’s authors allege. This conspiratorial framing is part of a legal strategy to suppress speech favorable to Palestinians or critical of the U.S.-Israel relationship, by employing counterterrorism laws to suppress what would otherwise be protected speech, legal experts told Drop Site News.”

Fifty Two Nations Call For Global Arms Embargo On Israel

The Foreign Ministry of Turkiye sent the UN a letter signed by 52 nations and two organizations calling for a halt in military transfers to Israel, stating the Israeli army is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called for the arms embargo on Israel while speaking at a news conference in Djibouti on 1 November. While attending the Turkiye–Africa collaboration meeting, Fidan announced that the group letter was sent to the UN and that it must be "repeated at every opportunity that selling arms to Israel means participating in its genocide."

US Embassy Blocks Iraq-Lebanon Humanitarian Air Bridge

The US embassy in Lebanon has blocked the establishment of a humanitarian air bridge between Baghdad and Beirut, insisting instead that any humanitarian aid for those displaced by the Israeli war be delivered via Jordan “for inspection first,” according to a report by Lebanese daily Al Akhbar. Washington reportedly also threatened Lebanon's national airliner, Middle East Airlines (MEA), with sanctions if its planes were used to transport those wounded by Israel's terror attack that caused communication devices to explode across the country.

US Ambassador To Lebanon Promotes ‘Internal Uprising’ To Assist Israel

A high-ranking Lebanese security source revealed to Al-Akhbar newspaper that the US Ambassador to Lebanon, Lisa Johnson, is continuing her agenda to prepare Lebanon for a “post-Hezbollah era” by mobilizing “internal” forces against the Islamic resistance movement while it fights the Israeli Army. In discussions with Lebanese politicians, Johnson reportedly said, “Israel cannot achieve everything through war; it’s time for you to do your part and launch an internal uprising under the banner of ‘Enough.’” The ambassador added, “The Lebanese people must show their desire to rise up and get rid of Hezbollah and return to the context that emerged after the assassination of Rafik Hariri, especially since the regional, international, and field circumstances are in your favor.”

Planet Will Warm As Much As 3.1°C Under Current Policies

Without greater action, the planet will warm as much as 3.1 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, according to the latest United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Emissions Gap Report: No more hot air … please!. In the coming round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), countries must commit to slashing their collective yearly greenhouse gas emissions by 42 percent by the end of the decade and by 57 percent by 2035, a press release from UNEP said. Otherwise, the annual report says, the chance of meeting the Paris Agreement goal of keeping global heating to 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial average will disappear within a few years.

United Nations Releases New Report On Death Of Dag Hammarskjold In 1961

September 18, 1961, was a significant day in the struggle surrounding the African liberation movements aimed at ending colonialism on the continent. United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold and the entire crew and passengers aboard his plane went down in Ndola located in the then British colony of Northern Rhodesia, now known as Zambia. Although the colonial authorities claimed that the crash and subsequent deaths were the result of “pilot error”, ever since this time questions have been raised over whether the crash was a deliberate act of sabotage designed to prevent a political solution to the crisis in the former Belgian Congo.

Leaked Report Finds Israel Targeting United Nations Troops In Lebanon

Israel’s military has attacked UNIFIL troops deployed on the Lebanon–Israel border a dozen times, including possibly with white phosphorus, the Financial Times (FT) reported on 22 October. According to a confidential report prepared by a country contributing troops to the UN mission, Israeli forces forcibly entered a clearly marked UN base and are suspected of using the incendiary chemical white phosphorus, injuring 15 UN soldiers. Israeli forces began targeting UN troops shortly after launching ground operations across the border into Lebanon on 1 October. UNIFIL has called the attacks “deliberate” and a “flagrant violation of international law.”

Report: Billionaire Investors Are ‘Supercharging’ Housing Crisis

A new report out Monday puts "into numbers the trend that ordinary Americans have known to be true for years," said economic justice advocates behind the analysis: "Their everyday struggles of affording a home are made worse by the sweeping influence that billionaires have over the market." The Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) joined Popular Democracy in compiling a 71-page report titled Billionaire Blowback on Housing, aiming to get to the bottom of growing concerns in recent years about how Wall Street, as Democratic vice presidential nominee and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said earlier this month, is "buying up housing and making them less affordable."

Big Ag Uses ‘Regenerative Agriculture’ To Mask Business-As-Usual

During September’s Climate Week in New York City, the world’s major food companies lined up to share their pro-nature credentials, claiming that they are embracing “regenerative agriculture” practices that will reduce their massive carbon footprint. However, a new report finds that multinational food and ag companies – such as Cargill, Bayer and Unilever – which are using the term, have barely changed how they do business. A total of 30 major agriculture companies were analysed in the report, which was released in September by the New Climate Institute. It found that while around 80 percent of the firms were heavily referencing the phrase “regenerative agriculture” in their climate and sustainability strategies, only a third had targets, and many lacked specifics on how plans would be implemented, or applied them to just small subsets of their total operations.

Care Crisis In Central And Eastern Europe At Risk Of Deepening Further

The care sector in Central and Eastern Europe is facing a serious crisis, with increasing demands on care services but next to no improvement in care workers’ rights, according to a new report by the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU). The report warns that this situation is leading to high stress, burnout, and problems in workforce retention across the region. Although the need for services such as long-term care (LTC) for the elderly, early childhood care, and support for those needing daily assistance continues to grow, a lack of investment in public care services at the national level persists.

25 Of 35 Vital Signs For Earth Have Reached Record Extremes

A new report from a team of international scientists has revealed harsh realities on Earth, with 25 of 35 planetary vital signs reaching record extremes. Without immediate action, scientists warn that these extremes could threaten life on Earth. In the new study, published in the journal BioScience, scientists presented a stark look at the state of the climate crisis. “We are on the brink of an irreversible climate disaster. This is a global emergency beyond any doubt. Much of the very fabric of life on Earth is imperiled. We are stepping into a critical and unpredictable new phase of the climate crisis,” the scientists wrote.

Report: Blinken Approved Israeli Attacks On Gaza Aid Convoys

US State Secretary Anthony Blinken gave the green light for Israel to launch attacks against humanitarian aid convoys inside the Gaza Strip in the early days of Israel's genocide of Palestinians, according to a report by Drop Site News (DSN) citing Israeli journalists and media outlets. Tel Aviv's decision was made during a marathon session of the Security Cabinet between 16 and 17 October that Blinken took part in. “From within the Kirya, the Israeli military’s main headquarters in Tel Aviv, Blinken participated in the frantic discussions of the Israeli War Cabinet … that were occurring in parallel to conversations in the broader Security Cabinet,” DSN reports.

Report: Israel Expected To Target Military Sites In Iran

Israel’s expected attack against Iran will likely target military sites, The New York Times reported Monday, citing Israeli officials. The report said Israel’s initial response to Iran’s missile barrage that was launched in retaliation for Israeli escalations could also target intelligence sites and Iranian leadership. If Iran hits back, then Israel might target Iran’s civilian nuclear facilities, although Israel isn’t expected to be able to do much damage to any of the underground facilities without US support. The US appears to favor Israel striking military sites as President Biden has called for a “proportionate” response to the Iranian attack, which targeted Israeli military bases.
