On August 23, 2018 the street price of 1 US$ in Iran was 110,000 Rial. Three months earlier the street price was 30,000 Rial. In other words, the oranges you paid 30,000 Rials for three months ago may now cost you 110,000 Rials, an increase of 367%. Imagine what would happen in Detroit or Des Moines if the price of a half gallon of milk at Walmart jumped from $1.80 to $6.60 in the space if three months? People living in Iran don’t have to imagine what might happen. They’re living it. They know Trump’s sanctions will hurt. They’ve gone through this before. Under Obama’s sanctions the number of Iranian families living in poverty almost doubled.

Study: Lack Of Media Attention To Missing And Murdered Indigenous Women

According to a new report from the Urban Indian Health Institute (UIHI), more than 500 indigenous women and girls have gone missing or have been murdered across 71 American cities with almost no media coverage. The majority of the urban indigenous females ended up as murder victims. On Wednesday, the UIHI released a report identifying 506 cases of missing or murdered indigenous women and girls that went mostly unreported by the media. The report noted that 280 were murder cases, one hundred and twenty-eight were missing persons cases, and 98 had an unknown status.

Afghanistan: Civilian Deaths Hit Record High, Says UN

The number of civilians killed in Afghanistan hit a record high in the first half of the year, despite last month's ceasefire, according to the United Nations. In the latest figures released on Sunday by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), 1,692 civilians were killed during the first six months of 2018 - the most recorded in the period over the last decade since the agency began documentation. However, with a total of 5,122 casualties, including 3,430 injuries, UNAMA recorded a three percent overall decrease in the number of those affected by the violence in the war-torn country. The UN figures also showed a 15 percent drop in child and women casualties - at 1,355 and 544 respectively - but UNAMA voiced grave concern over the human cost of the conflict. "In the first six months of 2018, the armed conflict continued to destroy the lives and livelihoods of civilians at the same toxic levels as last year," the report said.

The word terrorism is both over used and useless. It generally refers to the actions of the American government’s political enemies. It is rarely used to describe the wanton killing that is committed by this state or accepted by the dictates of white supremacy. Two black men, Stephan House and Draylen Mason, were killed by a white man in Austin, Texas. The perpetrator is dead too, killing himself with the same explosives he used against House and Mason. The bomber should have been called a terrorist but law enforcement never used the word.

And as the world celebrates International Women’s Day, and in a time of the #MeToo movement, it is important to remember how Israel has systematically carried out violence against Palestinian women, undercut their healthcare, and undermined their socio-economic conditions. In this regard, Israeli settler-colonialism can be seen as intrinsically anti-feminist and a form of gendered violence.

Muhammad Abu Amr, 19 years old, is a young Palestinian artist who was killed by the Israeli forces during the Great Return March last Friday in Gaza. He dreamed of sand sculpting an 800 square meter Map of Palestine on the beach in Gaza. His friend Osama Sbeata, a Palestinian artist, with couple of other friends, created the Map of Palestine in honor of his legacy, they made hid dream come true.
