‘Entire Resistance Axis’ Will Respond To Haniyeh Assassination

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) condemned Israel’s assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh on 31 July, vowing that the Resistance Axis as a whole will respond to the attack. “This crime demonstrated that the criminal, murderous, and terrorist Zionist gang, disregarding international rules and regulations, spares no criminal action to cover up its humiliating defeats in the nine-month war in Gaza, which has resulted in the massacre of tens of thousands of Palestinian women, men, and children,” the IRGC said on Wednesday, hours after Haniyeh’s assassination in Tehran. “Undoubtedly, this crime by the Zionist regime will be met with a severe and painful response from the powerful and grand Resistance Axis, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran … the blessings of the Martyr of Jerusalem Dr Ismail Haniyeh's efforts in defending the cause and rights of the Palestinian nation will help them,” it added.

Assassination Attempt On Donald Trump And Political Violence By The US

On January 3, 2020, Iranian general Qassem Soleimani and nine other people were killed by a United States drone strike under the orders of President Donald Trump . Soleimani was in Baghdad, Iraq to meet with Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi in order to broker a peace initiative between Iran and Saudi Arabia, two nations which had been antagonists for many years. At the time Joe Biden was a presidential candidate and he issued a “Statement from Vice President Joe Biden on the Killing of Qassem Soleimani .” Biden said, “No American will mourn Qassem Soleimani’s passing. He deserved to be brought to justice for his crimes against American troops and thousands of innocents throughout the region. He supported terror and sowed chaos.”

Statement On Attempted Trump Assassination

The assassination of Trump would not remove the yearning of tens of millions of people, many conditioned by the Christian right, for a cult leader. Most of the leaders of the Christian right have built cult followings of their own. These Christian fascists embraced magical thinking, attacked their enemies as agents of Satan and denounced reality-based science and journalism long before Trump did. Cults are a product of social decay and despair, and our decay and despair are expanding, soon to explode in another financial crisis. The efforts by the Democratic Party and much of the press, including CNN and The New York Times, to discredit Trump, as if our problems are embodied in him, are futile.

Colombian Paramilitaries Alert Opposition Plot To Assassinate Maduro

On July 5, the Colombian paramilitary group Conquering Self-Defense Forces of the Sierra Nevada (Autodefensas Conquistadoras de la Sierra Nevada), ACSN, published a video on social media in which they denounce an apparent plot to assassinate Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and provoke chaos in the country. According to the ACSN paramilitaries, formerly known as “Los Pachencas”, certain Venezuelan extreme right-wing groups contacted them in the locality of La Guajira and asked them to carry out a series of actions to destabilize the Venezuelan government. Several days ago, Maduro denounced that an invasion of about 1,000 paramilitaries from Colombia was being planned to generate anxiety in the population a few days before the July 28 presidential election.

The Death Squads Hunting Environmental Defenders

Before the day’s light had begun to dim, Brandon Lee picked up his phone and texted Sister Genny. “Even until now,” he told the nun, “I feel like I’m being watched.” It was Tuesday, August 6, 2019, and the habagat season was pulling tropical storms across the mountains of the Cordillera, the rural interior of the Philippine island of Luzon. In Lee’s home province of Ifugao, the threat of a deluge had passed, leaving behind leaden skies and the sticky heat of the wet season. For a week, after a fraught decision made with his wife, Bernice, Lee had hardly left their home in the municipality of Lagawe. He no longer went to work at the office down the road, no longer walked his niece and daughter to school, no longer went anywhere on foot.

Iraqi Army Blasts US For ‘Sowing Instability’ After Latest Assassination

Iraqi army spokesman Major General Yahya Rasoul on 8 February condemned the targeted assassination of Kataib Hezbollah leader Abu Baqir al-Saadi, calling out Washington for continuing to sow instability in the country. The strike on Wednesday night was carried out “in a manner that disregarded the lives of Iraqi civilians or international laws,” Rasoul said, adding that the US “repeatedly commits acts that undermine the understandings and the start of bilateral dialogue.”

On Thursday, January 4, the Iraqi government called the US attack on the headquarters of semi-official armed group Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) or Hashd al-Shaabi “a dangerous escalation and aggression against the country’s sovereignty.” At least four people were killed, including a top commander of the PMF, and six others were injured when a US drone hit PMF’s headquarters in eastern Baghdad. The PMF commander killed in the US attack was identified as Hajj Moshtaq Taleb al-Saidi (Abou Taqwa). Reacting to the US attacks, Iraqi president Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid issued a statement on Thursday condemning it and calling it a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 89: Hamas And Hezbollah Pledge To Punish Israel Following Aruri Killing

Saleh Al-Aruri, 57, the deputy political leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), was killed in a drone airstrike in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday evening. Aruri is the most senior Hamas leader to be killed since the October 7 Palestinian cross-fence attack, which shocked Israel’s security and intelligence establishment. Aruri was one of the masterminds of The Al-Aqsa Flood operation. He talked about it openly in an interview with Al-Mayadeen channel in August. On Tuesday evening, he was killed in the movement’s office in Al-Dahiya, the southern Beirut suburb and the stronghold of Hezbollah movement.

Israeli Drone Strike In Beirut Kills Senior Hamas Official

An Israeli drone strike hit a Hamas office in Beirut on Tuesday, killing at least six people, including a senior Hamas official, Lebanese media has reported. A US official told The Washington Post that Israel was responsible for the strike that killed Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy chief of Hamas’s political bureau. The Israeli attack on the Lebanese capital marks a huge escalation and could provoke a major war. Hamas has confirmed that al-Arouri was killed and released a statement on his assassination. “The cowardly assassinations carried out by the Zionist occupation against the leaders and symbols of our Palestinian people inside and outside Palestine will not succeed in breaking the will and steadfastness of our people or in undermining the continuation of their valiant resistance,” Hamas said.

Israeli Air Strike In Syria Kills Top Iranian Military Adviser

An Israeli air strike outside the Syrian capital of Damascus has killed a senior adviser in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to reports from Iranian state media. He was responsible for coordinating the military alliance between Syria and Iran, an important part of Iran’s regional network of allies and proxies known as the “Axis of Resistance”. Mousavi “was killed during an attack by the Zionist regime a few hours ago in Zeinabiyah district in the suburbs of Damascus,” Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported, using a different name for Sayyida Zeinab south of the Syrian capital.

When A CIA Asset Becomes A CIA Liability

Fernando Villavicencio, who with the Guardian’s Luke Harding and Dan Collyns fabricated the notorious Guardian front page lie that Paul Manafort and Julian Assange held pro-Trump meetings in the Ecuadorean Embassy, has been shot dead in Ecuador. The appalling lie, which the Guardian’s $700,000 a year editor has refused to retract or remove, despite criticism even from the Washington Post which named Villavicencio as the fabricator, was aimed to give support to Clinton’s flagging “Russiagate” invention, which was crumbling fast.

Israel Has Yet To Answer For Shireen Abu Akleh’s Assassination

Veteran Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu-Akleh was covering an Israeli raid on Jenin Refugee Camp in her official capacity as a reporter for Al Jazeera on May 11, 2022, when an unnamed Israeli sniper fired a bullet into the thin space between the back of her helmet and her flak jacket, killing her. At the time, Abu-Akleh was fleeing Israeli gunfire directed towards her and other observing journalists, including Al Jazeera producer Ali Al-Samudi, who was wounded moments before Abu-Akleh’s death. One year later, Israeli military forces have issued an apology for killing Shireen Abu Akleh. This follows countless reports from journalist eyewitnesses, analyses by multiple international outlets, condemnation from world governments, and a joint investigation which determined Israeli forces deliberately targeted Abu Akleh.

Ukraine Attacks Kremlin With Drones To Assassinate Putin

Ukraine attacked the Kremlin with drones early this Wednesday, May 3, in an action that is being considered an assassination attempt against Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Russian authorities, who described the attack as a planned terrorist action. He was received this Wednesday at the presidential palace in Helsinki by his Finnish counterpart, Sauli Niinistö, in the first visit of the Ukrainian head of state to the Nordic country that recently joined NATO.

Why Tortuguita’s Murder Is Only The Tip Of The Iceberg

Few people outside of Atlanta knew about the police training facility nicknamed “Cop City” when plans were approved in 2021, but all that changed in January when Manual Esteban Páez Terán, known as “Tortuguita,” was murdered by police. Their death launched a torrent of news coverage, including an article by NBC stating that police had never killed an environmental activist in the U.S. before Tortuguita. That may be true, but the U.S. has long been complicit in the death of activists abroad through its involvement in resource extraction and training police and military personnel. One such country is Honduras, which had the highest number of killings of land defenders per capita in the world in 2019.

Over 400 Human Rights Defenders Murdered Worldwide Last Year

For the first time since such killings have been tracked, more than 400 human rights defenders were murdered worldwide last year, with nearly half of these targeted killings occurring in Colombia, a report published Tuesday revealed. According to Front Line Defenders' annual global analysis, at least 401 human rights defenders (HRDs) in 26 countries were victims of targeted killings in 2022, up from 358 people murdered in 35 countries the previous year. The report notes that five countries—Colombia, Ukraine, Mexico, Brazil, and Honduras—accounted for over 80% of HRD murders in 2022, with Colombia alone accounting for 46% of the total with at least 186 killings documented and verified.
