Olympic Games Once Again Marred By Western Bias And Controversy

The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, in Paris, France, officially ended on Aug. 11. There were certainly some historic moments achieved by athletes who hail from the Global South. These included gold medal winners Julien Alfred from St. Lucia, Marileidy Paulino from the Dominican Republic and the legendary Cuban boxer, Mijain Lopez, the only athlete in Olympics history to win gold medals in five successive games. In another historic moment, North and South Korean athletes took collective selfies together during the table tennis medal ceremonies in a show of unity.

United States Elites Fail To Sink Chinese Swimmers

US political and media elites tried but failed to sink the Chinese swimming team at the Paris Olympics. The Chinese swimmers performed well despite the increased stress caused by media-induced rumors of “Chinese doping”. And now, the tables are being turned as the US anti-doping regime is coming under increasing scrutiny and criticism. The media manufactured cloud of suspicion Just a few months ago the NY Times and German ARD media ignited the controversy with an “investigation” regarding an incident from December 2021. At that time, 23 Chinese swimmers tested positive for a trace amount of the heart medication Trimetazadine (TMZ) during a swim meet for top swimmers from across the country.

USA Lets Athletes Cheat With Steroids, While Accusing Russia And China

The United States has for a decade allowed athletes in international competitions, including the Olympics, to use prohibited drugs such as steroids, recruiting them as informants to spy on others. This is according to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the global authority on the use of banned substances in sports. WADA revealed this in a statement on August 7, detailing “a scheme whereby the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) allowed athletes who had doped, to compete for years, in at least one case without ever publishing or sanctioning their anti-doping rule violations, in direct contravention of the World Anti-Doping Code and USADA’s own rules”.

As Stock Market Crashes, Is US Facing New Financial Crisis?

Is the United States on the verge of a potential new financial crisis? This is a question that financial analysts are asking after there was a market crash on August 5. It is being compared to the famous “Black Monday” crash in the stock market in 1987. They also both happened on a Monday. So is this another Black Monday? This was the biggest market plunge since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, when many investors were selling off their holdings, fearing that there was going to be a big recession. In fact, as of the August 5th crisis, the volatility index, the VIX, which is a measurement of how rapidly stock prices move in the S&P 500 – which is the stock market index of the 500 biggest companies on U.S. stock exchanges – the volatility index is at the highest level since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Beijing Declaration: How Chinese Diplomacy United Palestinian Groups

Chinese diplomacy has done it again. By hosting a historic signing of a unity agreement between 14 Palestinian political parties in Beijing on July 23, China has, once more, shown its ability to play a global role as a peace broker. For years, China has attempted to play a role in Middle East politics, particularly in the region’s most enduring crisis, the Israeli occupation of Palestine. In 2021, China announced its four-point plan, aimed at “comprehensively, fairly and permanently” resolving the Palestinian question. Whether the plan itself was workable or not, it mattered little, as neither the Israeli government nor the Palestinian Authority were prepared to ditch Washington, which has dominated Middle East diplomacy for decades.

China’s Lightning-Fast Renewable Triumphs

A few years ago, China’s climate envoy Xie Zhenhua and U.S. climate envoy John Kerry shook hands on a pledge to triple renewable energy by 2030. China took the challenge seriously, very seriously, it will meet its end-of-2030 emissions target this year (2014), six years early. In the blink of an eye, China is constructing wind and solar farms that are equivalent to building five large nuclear power stations per week! Yes, per week. They understand the multitude of risks of climate change, especially since it is happening in real time right in everybody’s face, and they’re doing something about it faster than the rest of the world combined.

Ukraine Signals Readiness To Resume Talks With Russia During China Visit

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited China on Wednesday and signaled Ukraine was ready to resume peace talks with Russia. According to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, Kuleba told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that Kyiv “is ready to engage the Russian side in the negotiation process at a certain stage when Russia is ready to negotiate in good faith, but emphasized that no such readiness is currently observed on the Russian side.” The Kremlin responded and said that Kuleba’s comments were in line with Russia’s position. “We have all learned from reports from Beijing that he made such a statement at a meeting with Mr. Wang Yi.

Palestinian Factions Sign A Deal In China To Establish A Unity Government

Palestinian factions signed a national unity agreement on July 23, in China’s capital Beijing, to end a 17-year power sharing conflict between the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah), and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). The reconciliation agreement was reached after three days of intensive talks brokered by China, in which 14 Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Fatah, took part. By signing the agreement, Palestinian factions came to a consensus to reach comprehensive Palestinian national unity, which encompasses all Palestinian forces and factions under the umbrella of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) as the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.

CPC Charts Path To Achieve An Advanced Socialist Society By 2050

The third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in Beijing from Monday July 15 to Thursday, July 18. It adopted a resolution listing a set of reforms with the objective of deepening the modernization process in the country in the path to complete building an advanced socialist market economy in China by the year 2035 and an advanced socialist society by 2050. Chinese President Xi Jinping who is also the general secretary of the CPC presided over the meeting attended by 199 members and 165 alternate members. Each elected Central Committee, the highest decision making body between two party Congresses, holds seven plenums or meetings during its five year term.

NATO Accelerates Its Conflict With China

At the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Washington, the focus was on Ukraine. In the Washington Declaration, the NATO leaders wrote, “Ukraine’s future is in NATO.” Ukraine formally applied to join NATO in September 2022, but soon found that despite widespread NATO support, several member states (such as Hungary) were uneasy with escalating a conflict with Russia. As early as NATO’s 2008 Bucharest Summit, the members welcomed “Ukraine’s and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations for membership in NATO. We agreed today that these countries will become members of NATO.”

Nuclear War Is Imminent

The world is headed toward nuclear war.  The horrific nightmare of global destruction that has haunted humanity ever since Hiroshima and Nagasaki is nearly upon us. For decades, peace activists and nuclear experts have warned about the “growing danger of nuclear war.” The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists has moved the hands of their Doomsday Clock all the way to 90 seconds! How much closer can we get? Are these dire warnings being dismissed like the man with the sign shouting “The End Is Near?” The original nuclear powers, the U.S., Russia, China, France and the UK – the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – never followed the commitment they made when they signed and ratified the 1970 Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

Donald Trump Is Not A ‘Threat To The Deep State’

An issue that I often try to avoid is domestic US partisan politics. It's very frustrating to talk about US politics because people tend to be very dogmatic and very partisan. They pick a party, the Republicans or the Democrats. They defend them no matter what. They treat the political party like a sports team or a superhero that can do no wrong. This is despite the fact that ironically the Republican and Democratic parties share a lot of their policies in common. The foreign policy that they carry out is 95% the same in this bipartisan orthodoxy. Their economic policy is the same. And yet people get angry if you criticize a Democrat, they think you are a Republican.

Guilty Plea In First Espionage Act Case Involving Drone Photography

In a first-of-its-kind prosecution, a Chinese graduate student pleaded guilty to violating the United States Espionage Act when he flew a drone and photographed U.S. military and naval installations. The plea deal does not create any legal precedent, and U.S. prosecutors in the Eastern District of Virginia never explicitly accused Fengyun Shi of spying on behalf of the Chinese government. However, the case itself carries implications for the right to photograph or gather news. Shi agreed to plead guilty [PDF] to two counts of “unlawful photographing of designated installation without authorization.” Both are misdemeanor charges that carry a potential sentence of one year in prison and a fine of $100,000. He also faces deportation back to China.

NATO Versus Western Voters And The Global Majority

We record this show as NATO leaders have gathered in Washington, D.C., to mark the 75th anniversary of NATO. The occasion, planned more than a year ago, was to be grand, for sure, though much has changed in the past year, and the rhetoric has, as a consequence, come to sound rather grandiloquent, rather than grand. Ringing declarations have been made about the most successful alliance on Earth, delivering 75 years of peace. Yes, they are saying that while bombs are raining on Gaza and in Ukraine and other trouble spots. They call it the bulwark of global security. Those were the words loudly shouted by President Biden to convince the world against all evidence, of his youth, mental agility, and vigor.

Does NATO Make The World A Safer Place?

The NATO Summit enters its last day in Washington, DC on July 11. One of the key topics for this gathering of NATO leaders is “deterrence and defense.” However, as NATO leaders ship more weapons towards the war in Ukraine, trade barbs with China, and push member nations to spend more money on defense, the ongoing summit begs the question, does NATO make the world a safer place? The war between Russia and Ukraine has passed its two year mark. Even in the first few days of the summit, NATO leaders seem to be doing whatever possible to prolong the war even longer. The alliance has begun shipping F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine to use in the prolonged war, a decision which Russia heavily denounced.
