COVID-19: Seeds Of Revolution Grown On Capitalism’s Corpse?

As the global COVID-19 crisis builds up its incredible momentum, for which an apex is still months to come, the mainstream media and so-called policymakers are dazed and confused, lost in graphs of exponential case counts and body counts; shipments of masks and respirators; and the assembly of makeshift hospitals. Everywhere the morgues are filling up and the crematoriums are burning the cadavers at full tilt. While the palpable fear of death looms everywhere, the 2,020 members of the billionaire class, and their worldwide political surrogates, have an eye on other graphs: not going up like the graphs of the deaths, but plunging in an even more dramatic configuration. It is, of course, the COVID-19 induced crash of all financial markets and the precipitous dive of oil price. It is the Great COVID-19 Depression.

Coronavirus – A Lockdown Is Not Enough

March 17, 2020 "Information Clearing House" - Dr. Carl Juaneau, who is specialized in epidemiology, has pointed me to a page where he collects useful information about the novel Coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 and the current pandemic it causes. COVID-19: Why America May Be Hit Hard for 3-4 Months & What To Do It is quite good. Make sure that you scroll beyond the long country statistic for additional useful information.

The Roots Of Anti-Racist, Anti-Fascist Resistance In The US

“No Trump, No KKK, No Fascist USA!” has been a popular protest chant since the New York real-estate mogul and former reality TV star became the 45th president of the United States. This was no mere rhetorical flourish. We saw a surge in the ranks of white nationalists and the “alt-right,” an escalation of domestic terrorist attacks on Black and Brown people, immigrants, Muslims, Jews, and the LGBTQ community.

New Wave Of Protests Sweeping Across Chile

Chile has witnessed a week of renewed protests demanding the resignation of billionaire President Sebastián Piñera and calling for a Peoples’ Convention to scrap former dictator Augusto Pinochet’s 1980 neoliberal laws, replacing them with a new Constitution. On March 8 — International Working Women’s Day — more than a million people demonstrated in Santiago and elsewhere. Reporter Alisha Lubben in the  March 8 Chile Today News described the massive event in Santiago: “The streets were electric with the voices of over one million women. Along the metro ride to Santa Lucia, cheers and chants permeated into the stations and grew louder and more enthusiastic with each stop. “Exiting the metro station, reaching the march was nearly impossible as even side streets and alleyways were brimming with women and children.

New Shared Values Between US And India — Arms Sales

"For decades, the U.S.-India relationship was anchored by claims of shared values of human rights and human dignity. Now, those shared values are discrimination, bigotry, and hostility towards refugees and asylum seekers." U.S. President Donald Trump got a warm welcome from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to kick off a whirlwind 36-hour tour of the world's largest democracy and announced the two countries were finalizing a $3 billion arms deal.

No Fascist USA! Lessons From A History Of Anti-Klan Organizing

Ever since fascism first crawled out of the ideological sewer, anarchists and autonomists have been there to confront, antagonize and organize against it. You need not dig deep into past history to find evidence of this. After the mayhem of Charlottesville, Cornell West, reported to Amy Goodman on Democracy Now!

A Neoliberal Legacy: America’s Fascism Problem Runs Much Deeper Than Trump

After the supposedly post-racial presidency of Barack Obama, what passes for the liberal punditry discovered that racism had arisen in the homeland. They never felt so good feeling bad about racism, denouncing what they identified as its primal cause – Mr. Trump, who was sullying that “shining example” of the United States of America. Obscured were those historical antecedents of

How India Became Fascist, And Why Pockets Of Resistance Matter

A number of years ago, I was visiting my native Kerala to celebrate finishing my Master’s. My driver from the airport to my town was a family friend from the Nair caste. The Nairs were Kshatriya (warriors) that were integral to the resistance against the British. They invented the world’s oldest martial art, Kalaripayattu, which was so deadly that the British declared it illegal to carry the Kalari arms in 1804.

Onward, Christian Fascists

The greatest moral failing of the liberal Christian church was its refusal, justified in the name of tolerance and dialogue, to denounce the followers of the Christian right as heretics. By tolerating the intolerant it ceded religious legitimacy to an array of con artists, charlatans and demagogues and their cultish supporters. It stood by as the core Gospel message—concern for the poor and the oppressed—was perverted into a magical world where God and Jesus showered believers with material wealth and power.

Massachusetts State Police Becomes First Agency To Test Out Robot Dog

The Massachusetts State Police have been quietly testing Boston Dynamics' robot dog named Spot and took it out into the field on two separate occasions. Boston Dynamics has been leasing Spot to a variety of companies, though it does prohibit them from using the robot dog to harm or intimidate people. Spot comes equipped with 360-degree video capabilities and is capable of walking up a flight of stairs and traversing uneven terrain. It can also open doors, using a mechanical arm that extends from its head.

Bolivia Coup Led By Christian Fascist Paramilitary Leader And Millionaire – With Foreign Support

When Luis Fernando Camacho stormed into Bolivia’s abandoned presidential palace in the hours after President Evo Morales’s sudden November 10 resignation, he revealed to the world a side of the country that stood at stark odds with the plurinational spirit its deposed socialist and Indigenous leader had put forward. With a Bible in one hand and a national flag in the other, Camacho bowed his head in prayer above the presidential seal, fulfilling his vow to purge his country’s Native heritage from government and “return God to the burned palace.”

Will The People Of Bolivia Reverse The US-Supported Coup Against Evo Morales?

Bolivia - On November 11, following victory in the October 20 presidential election and a vicious right-wing coup attempt, President Evo Morales resigned. Signs that a coup would occur if Morales won re-election surfaced before the election took place. Violent groups burnt buildings of Morales' MAS (Movement Toward Socialism) Party and tried to cause chaos in the streets. Immediately after the election, coup-supporters claimed there was election fraud without evidence to support the claim. The Organization of American States (OAS) demanded a recount, which Morales agreed to conduct. Then they called for a new election, which Morales consented to. And finally, as right-wing violence escalated to an extreme level, the head of the military turned against the President.

Evo Morales Resigns In The Face Of Fascist Attacks

The president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, has announced his resignation from office after opposition groups, who do not want to recognize the election results of last October 20, launched a wave of violence. The escalation of violence by these groups attacked militants and leaders of the Movement towards Socialism (MAS). They are intimidating journalists, burning residences of MAS members, including Evo’s sister, and attacking anyone who looks indigenous. Some political allies and the National Police have gone over to the side of the opposition. The country is in a complete crisis.

UN’s 75th Anniversary Shadowed By Right-Wing Nationalism, Widespread Authoritarianism And Budgetary Cuts

And civil society organizations (CSOs), who were mostly disappointed with the results, are now gearing themselves for two upcoming key climate summit meetings: COP25 in Santiago, Chile in December and COP26 in Glasgow, UK in late 2020, along with the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Women’s Conference scheduled to take place in September 2020 in New York. But perhaps the most politically-significant event in 2020 will be the 75th anniversary of the United Nations which will take place amidst continued threats against multilateral institutions, rising right-wing nationalism, growing authoritarianism and widespread disinformation.
