‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 339: Israel Withdraws From West Bank

Israeli forces withdrew from Jenin and Tulkarem after almost two weeks of raids as part of “Operation Summer Camps,” targeting the cities of Tubas, Jenin, and Tulkarem in the northern West Bank. The Israeli army maintained its blockade of both cities by shutting down roads leading in and out of them. On Monday, Israeli forces raided Tulkarem again after several days of relative calm, only to withdraw later in the day. Israel’s latest military assault concentrated on the refugee camps adjacent to the three northern West Bank cities. For almost two weeks, Israeli troops destroyed large parts of camp and city infrastructure, bulldozing storefronts, tearing up streets, and unearthing electricity and water lines.

ISM Response To Israeli Army Statement On The Murder Of Aysenur Eygi

On Friday, September 6, Turkish-American human rights activist with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) Aysenur Eygi was killed by a single shot to the head from an Israeli sniper while witnessing a demonstration against illegal Israeli settlements on Beita’s lands. After a brief internal investigation conducted by the Israeli army itself, the Israeli army has released a statement asserting that “the inquiry found that it is highly likely that she was hit indirectly and unintentionally by IDF fire which was not aimed at her.” The ISM entirely rejects this specious claim and continues to demand an independent investigation of the Israeli army’s killing of our comrade Aysenur Eygi.

Israel Tasks US Congress With Pressuring South Africa To Drop Genocide Case

Israel is lobbying members of Congress to pressure South Africa to drop its case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, Axios reported on 9 September. South Africa has until 28 October to submit its arguments for continuing its case, claiming Israel is in violation of the Genocide Convention due to its war in Gaza. Israeli officials say they want members of Congress to threaten South Africa with consequences for continuing to pursue the case. On Monday, the Israeli foreign ministry sent a classified cable to the Israeli embassy and consulates in the US with instructions for dealing with South Africa.

Native Boarding Schools Were Genocidal: Healing Starts With Truth

When I was in middle school, at a majority-white public school in Montana, I was given an assignment to interview a grandparent about their childhood. The questions were designed to help us better understand what we did and did not have in common with each other. When I interviewed my maternal grandmother, I asked her whether there was ever a bully at her school. Her answer surprised me; she said she was the bully. “I always had soap in my mouth,” she said, punished for “talking back” to her teachers—and punished for speaking her first language: Blackfeet. My grandmother was a student at the St. Ignatius Mission and School, a church-run, assimilationist boarding school on the Flathead Indian Reservation in western Montana.

Retaliation And Repression Of Palestine Solidarity Activism

In the United States and the United Kingdom, employer retaliation and state repression against people who show solidarity with the Palestinian liberation movement and who oppose genocide is escalating. Professor Danny Shaw describes his nearly lifelong solidarity with Palestine and the personal price he has paid for it particularly since last October. Shaw has been doxed, arrested, fired and detained by the FBI and Homeland Security. His phone and electronic devices have been confiscated as well as his passport although he has not committed any crimes. He discusses how he and others are fighting back and why we must defend our rights to free speech and to know what is happening.

Hezbollah’s Calibrated Response

As soon as the war in Gaza broke after the Al-Aqsa Deluge last Oct. 7, Hezbollah faced a fateful decision: should it hold back and let its Palestinian comrades do the fighting against Israel and keep Lebanon out of this expanding war, or should take part in some way to help Palestine? How could Hezbollah stray from its traditional rhetoric about Palestinian solidarity and “unity of arenas”? It was a difficult question especially since, by all accounts (and this summer in Lebanon I asked a lot of knowledgeable Lebanese and Palestinians about it) Hezbollah was not informed in advance about the Hamas attack.

Israeli Army Kills American Activist In Occupied West Bank

An American woman was shot and killed by Israeli forces during a protest in Beita near Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank on Friday. On Friday morning the State Department confirmed that Aysenur Eygi, a 26-year-old American citizen born in Turkey, had died. Two Palestinian doctors told the AP that Eygi had been shot in the head and died after arriving at the local hospital. “We tried to save the American citizen, we tried to revive the heart for several stages, but unfortunately, we did not succeed in restoring the heart to function,” said Rafidia Hospital director Dr. Fouad Naffa. “We are deeply disturbed by the tragic death of an American citizen, Aysenur Egzi Eygi, today in the West Bank and our hearts go out to her family and loved ones,” said White House National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett

Students Protest University’s Complicity With Israel’s Deadly F-35s

Students in Greece have taken a stand against a university’s complicity with Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. Namely, they’ve called out the university’s ties to Lockheed Martin – the company that provides Israel with its F-35 war planes. It comes as the Lockheed Martin F-35 has been linked to a potential war crime by Israel. Danish news outlet Information, together with NGO Danwatch, revealed that, for the first time, it has been possible to definitively confirm the use by Israel of an F-35 stealth fighter to carry out a specific attack in Gaza. The attack took place on 13 July, on an Israeli-designated ‘safe zone’ in Al-Mawasi in southern Gaza, killing 90 people and injuring at least 300. The Israeli military claims that the target of the attack was Mohammed Deif, head of Hamas’s military wing.

Abandon Biden Becomes Abandon Harris

In July, immediately after President Biden dropped out of the race, we reappeared in front of the Supreme Court in Washington, DC demanding that Vice President Harris speak to us, meet with us. We extended our hand, asking what her policy on Gaza was. What was her policy on the genocide? We wanted to know exactly what was in her mind, since she had worked actively with the president since the genocide began. We wanted to hear from her mouth, in front of us, what she would do if she became the president on January 20. The media took our message, our demands for a permanent, unconditional ceasefire and a full arms embargo, and we were met with complete rejection, no comment, no meeting. That's what led up to our decision that we had no choice but to do what we began in October, that we would denounce the party's position on genocide and begin a campaign against her, as we did on August 19, 2024, outside of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 335: Israeli Objective In West Bank

The wide-ranging Israeli invasion of the northern West Bank, dubbed “Operation Summer Camps,” has now entered its ninth consecutive day. During this period of time, the Israeli army has focused the bulk of its attacks on Jenin refugee camp and the city of Jenin. The operation has also included repeated invasions of Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarem and al-Far’a refugee camp in Tubas, sometimes for 48 hours at a time, and at other points only for a few hours on limited missions. The UN’s OCHA has reported that “Israeli forces have been using lethal, war-like tactics across the northern West Bank” as part of the ongoing operation.

The War On Palestine Within US Education Isn’t Just In Colleges

In a May 2024 congressional hearing, the Committee on Education and the Workforce questioned leaders of three public school districts: New York City; the Washington, DC suburbs of Montgomery County, Maryland; and Berkeley, California. Similar to earlier hearings that cross-examined the presidents of Harvard, Penn, MIT, and Columbia, the event was premised on “pervasive antisemitism” in U.S. education and a demand for accountability from its leaders. As NPR reported, the K-12 hearing did not net the “headline moments” that lawmakers enjoyed with the university presidents, which saw the leaders struggle to answer questions and which helped bring about the resignation of three of them.

Turkish Masses Protest Presence Of US Navy Ship At Izmir Port

The Turkish Communist Party (TKP) alongside other Turkish political groups and masses took to the streets on Tuesday, September 3, near İzmir port to protest the anchoring of the United States’ Navy multi-purpose amphibious assault ship, USS Wasp (LHD-1) at the port. The arrival of the US Navy ship at İzmir Port followed a joint training exercise that took place in the Mediterranean sea between August 13-17 with Türkiye’s first amphibious warship TCG Anadolu. The exercise has been considered an indicator of military cooperation between Türkiye and the United States, which provoked the outrage of Turkish political groups and activists.

Biden’s Memo Invoked To Stop Arms To Israel

As U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller was telling reporters this week that assessments regarding whether Israel is abiding by international humanitarian law in Gaza are ongoing, more than two dozen rights groups were telling the Biden administration that it need look no further than its own memo released months ago to see that the U.S. must end its support for the Israeli military. Groups including Amnesty International, the Center for Civilians in Conflict and Refugees International were among 25 organizations that signed a letter sent Tuesday to President Joe Biden; Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee; and their foreign policy advisers.

Lethal Israeli Assault Destroys 70 Percent Of Jenin’s Streets

An Israeli military assault in the occupied West Bank entered its seventh day on Tuesday, destroying the vast majority of the Jenin refugee camp’s road infrastructure in its wake. The Israeli attack has killed at least 33 Palestinians, including seven children, and injured nearly 130 since 28 August, the Palestinian Authority’s health ministry reported, when Israeli troops launched a deadly wide-scale assault on the Jenin refugee camp, Nur Shams refugee camp east of Tulkarem and the al-Faraa refugee camp in the foothills of the Jordan Valley, south of Tubas. Hundreds of soldiers, armed with military jeeps, bulldozers and drones, have sealed off cities and refugee camps and inflicted widespread devastation to infrastructure, roads and water networks.

Israel’s War On Gaza Is Only Possible Due To US Support And Weapons

Israel would not realistically be able to wage war on Gaza without US support. Citing a senior Israeli air force official, prominent newspaper Haaretz reported that, “without the Americans’ supply of weapons to the Israel Defense Forces, especially the air force, Israel would have had a hard time sustaining its war for more than a few months”. President Joe Biden has repeatedly emphasized that Israel serves US imperial interests in a highly geostrategic region. In a speech in Tel Aviv in October 2023, Biden stated, “I have long said, if Israel didn’t exist, we’d have to invent it”. Former Secretary of State Alexander Haig, an ex US Army general who commanded NATO, similarly boasted that “Israel is the largest American aircraft carrier in the world that cannot be sunk, does not carry even one American soldier, and is located in a critical region for American national security”.
