Celebrations have erupted in Gaza. People sing in the streets, families hug each other, and children dance — all smiling and joyfully expressing their happiness that a deal for a ceasefire, and hopefully an end to the genocide, has finally been announced.
The agreement and the captives’ release were announced in the early morning hours in Palestine, and are only part of the first stage of U.S. President Trump’s plan. The agreement will see a ceasefire, the release of the remaining Israeli captives in Gaza, the release of a number of Palestinian prisoners, and the retreat of Israeli forces to an agreed-upon location. It is expected to be signed between Israel and Hamas on Thursday afternoon in Egypt and will immediately go into effect.
When Machado Wins The Nobel Peace Prize, ‘Peace’ Has Lost Its Meaning

Nobel Peace Prize, Regime Change, Right wing extremism, Venezuela
When I saw the headline Maria Corina Machado wins the Peace Prize, I almost laughed at the absurdity. But I didn’t, because there’s nothing funny about rewarding someone whose politics have brought so much suffering. Anyone who knows what she stands for knows there’s nothing remotely peaceful about her politics.
If this is what counts as “peace” in 2025, then the prize itself has lost every ounce of credibility. I’m Venezuelan-American, and I know exactly what Machado represents.
She’s the smiling face of Washington’s regime-change machine, the polished spokesperson for sanctions, privatization, and foreign intervention dressed up as democracy.
Machado’s politics are steeped in violence.
The Wall Street Journal Has Many Ways To Deny Genocide

As more and more scholars, and one rights group after another, confirm that Israel is carrying out a genocide in Gaza, it’s becoming ever more obvious that those who deny the genocide are the intellectual and moral equivalents of people who deny other genocides, such as the ones inflicted on the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, or the Holocaust, or the Armenian Genocide.
Yet the Wall Street Journal persists in running genocide denial. Looking at how the paper does so enables us to not only refute their falsehoods, but also to gain insight into the tactics Gaza genocide denialists, and genocide deniers in general, employ.
Will The United States Attack Venezuela?

Spoiler alert – it already has. This is not a glib answer but a comment on the nature of the conflict. The US mission to wrench Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution out from its roots has a quarter-century pedigree. Stick around to the end of the article for an assessment of the likelihood of an overt military attack inside Venezuela. But first a little historical context.
In 2002, a US-backed military coup temporarily ousted Hugo Chávez. A mere 47 hours later, the people of Venezuela spontaneously arose and returned their rightfully elected president.
Washington has persistently interfered in the internal affairs of Venezuela, pouring millions of dollars to rig elections. Yet, the perpetually divided and unpopular US-fostered opposition is more isolated and discredited than ever.

After months of threats from the Trump administration, on October 8, hundreds of National Guard troops arrived in Chicago from Texas and Illinois. The US Northern Command announced on October 8 that around 200 soldiers from the Texas National Guard and around 300 from the Illinois National Guard had arrived in the greater Chicago area. Troops are set to “protect” ICE and other federal agents, as well as federal property, according to the Northern Command.
The deployment of troops comes after waves of mass protest against US President Donald Trump’s ramped up immigration enforcement operation – labeled as “Operation Midway Blitz.”

At the recent United Nations General Assembly meeting, Gustavo Petro gave an impassioned speech on behalf of the Palestinian people. It was quite rightly held up as an example of leadership by a head of state, who spoke out forthrightly against a genocide and amplified calls for an international task force under a Uniting for Peace resolution which would prevent permanent Security Council members like the United States from using their status to veto any actions. Petro rose in international esteem after the Trump administration revoked his visa and when he returned to Colombia he expelled Israeli embassy staff after two Colombians were amongst those captured and detained on the Smud freedom flotilla to Gaza.

The U.S. has spent over $30 billion supporting the Israeli military and conducting war across the Middle East over the first two years of Israel’s genocide in Gaza — a genocide only made possible by the U.S.’s financial support, a new report concludes.
Brown University’s Costs of War project released a series of reports on the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack, finding that the U.S. has sent at least $21.7 billion in military aid to Israel between October 2023 and September 2025.
This record-breaking amount of aid is just the “tip of the iceberg,” with replenishments like Israel’s access to U.S. weapons stockpiles in the Middle East likely not included in publicly reported totals.
Hamas, Israel Agree To First Phase Of Gaza Ceasefire Under Trump Plan
The newly announced ceasefire agreement, which was reached by mediators overnight, is set to take effect in Gaza on 9 October.
Phase one of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan will begin in the coming hours and days.
According to Israel’s Channel 14, the signing of the agreement will be followed by Israeli cabinet and government meetings to ratify the deal.
The Israeli army will then carry out its first withdrawal from Gaza’s population centers, in line with the agreement’s withdrawal map.
Twenty living Israeli captives will be released following 72 hours. In exchange, Tel Aviv is required to release 250 prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 Palestinians detained from Gaza since 7 October 2023.

Launched in 2017 by the private Chinese company ByteDance, TikTok quickly became one of the most important social networks on the planet. By early 2025, it had 1.6 billion active users, more than half of them outside China, of whom an estimated 170 million are North American; 1 in 5 people in the US get their news from this network, 4 in 10 among the 18-29 age group. Today, it is the fastest-growing platform among the younger segments of the global population.
The US government has waged a long battle to force ByteDance to sell the US branch of TikTok to a group of “domestic” capitalists, citing national security concerns and threatening to ban the platform in the US if the deal did not go through.

The last remaining nuclear arms control treaty between the United States and Russia — New START — is set to expire on Feb. 5, 2026.
This treaty, which caps the nuclear arsenals of both nations at 1,550 deployed strategic nuclear weapons each, was signed back in 2010, during the administrations of U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev. At that time, the two nations were engaged in what proved to be an abortive “reset” of relations.
But the underlying problems which prompted the need for a reset — NATO expansion, continued U.S. pursuit of hegemony disguised as a “rules based international order” and a general U.S. disregard for arms control as a necessary mechanism of global stability — were never fully addressed

The Department of Labor’s new rule cutting farmworker wages bluntly states that souped-up immigration enforcement has devastated the agricultural workforce and created a significant “risk of supply shock-induced food shortages,” according to a document filed in the Federal Register last week. The document also indicates that American workers are simply not interested in and do not have the skills to perform agricultural jobs, at odds with Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins’s claim that the farm workforce will soon be 100 percent American.

8 October 2025 – The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and Thousand Madleens to Gaza (TMTG) confirm that three boat : Gaza Sunbirds, Alaa Al-Najajr, Anas Al-Sharif, have been attacked and illegally intercepted by the Israeli military at 04:34 at 120 nautical miles (220km) from Gaza.
Sources so far indicate that the unarmed crew aboard, including doctors, journalists, and elected officials, have been abducted, as well as the vital aid worth over $110,000 USD in medicines, respiratory equipment, and nutritional supplies that were destined for Gaza’s starving hospitals. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
“Israel has no legal authority to detain international volunteers aboard these ships,” David Heap, Canadian Boat to Gaza and Freedom Flotilla Coalition Steering Committee.

Before raining bombs and missiles on Korea, Iraq, Libya, and Syria, the US at least requested authorization from the UN Security Council (UNSC) in accordance with the UN Charter, sometimes getting it, sometimes not. This year it skipped that nicety altogether, bombing Iran without so much as a call to Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Israel didn’t bother to make its case either, knowing that the US had its back.
The US did send the Council a ridiculous explanation after the fact. It said it had to neutralize an Iranian nuclear threat and claimed its inherent right of self-defense and collective self-defense with its ally Israel, citing the Charter’s Article 51. However, Article 51 reads, “Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations . . .”

October 7, 2025, marks two years since the Al-Aqsa Flood boldly asserted the collective human right of the Palestinian resistance to oppose colonial occupation while dealing a death blow to the perceived invincibility of the zionist regime. In response, the imperialist coalition protecting israel – led by the United States – has intensified its genocide of the Palestinian people, extending its barbarous terror to any and all defenders of the Palestinian cause.
The U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM – which oversees an estimated 58 U.S. military bases and installations across North Africa and West & Central Asia – has played a key role in the occupation of Palestine, as well as in the violent destabilization and exploitation of the region and its peoples as a whole.

The world as we know it died two years ago today, on October 7, 2023 — but not, as we’ve been incessantly bludgeoned into believing, because Palestinian resistance fighters who broke out of the “open-air prison” of the Gaza Strip went on a killing spree in southern Israel in a desperate response to 75 years of persistent oppression, apartheid and murder by the State of Israel.
Those attacks — horrific as they were, with 1,195 people killed and 251 others taken hostage (although it should be noted that no one knows how many were killed by Israeli forces themselves under the notorious Hannibal Directive) — were portrayed by Israel as a genocide, and as an existential threat to their very existence by sub-human monsters, but that was clearly untrue.
