Donald Trump’s second term may not be all bad for all nations, especially China. According to many Chinese internet users, Trump’s policies have unwittingly strengthened their country. This is why he has earned the popular nickname “Chuan Jianguo,” which means “Make China Great.”
Trump’s first term made at least three notable contributions to China’s rise:
First, his presidency shattered the image of the US as a paragon of democracy for many Chinese, revealing political chaos and deep societal divisions in the US. For decades, some Chinese idealized the United States as a “beautiful country”: the literal translation of the Chinese name for the US.

The United States Supreme Court has voted five to four to weaken rules that govern how much pollution is discharged into the country’s water supply, undermining the 1972 Clean Water Act.
The case involved San Francisco suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) after the city was found to have violated the terms of a permit required for the discharge of wastewater pollution into the Pacific Ocean, reported The Washington Post.
San Francisco officials argued that the EPA’s authority had been exceeded due to vague permit rules that made it impossible to tell when a line had been crossed.
Trump’s Détente With Venezuela

Trump’s corollary to the Monroe Doctrine – “speak loudly AND carry a big stick” – has not been applied full force on Venezuela…as of yet. Instead the new administration appears to be testing a more nuanced approach. In his first administration, he succeeded in crashing the Venezuelan economy and creating misery among the populace but not in the goal of changing the “regime.”
Back in 2019, the Bolivarian Revolution, initiated by Hugo Chávez and carried forward by his successor, current Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, was teetering on collapse under Trump’s “maximum pressure” offensive.
Israel Continues Sabotage Of Ceasefire Deal With Suspension Of Aid To Gaza

The ceasefire in Gaza came closest to collapsing since it began in mid-January after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Israel’s halt of the entry of humanitarian aid into the strip. The first phase of the ceasefire deal came to an end on Sunday as Israel continued to refuse to begin negotiations over the second phase of the deal, which were supposed to commence in early February.
Throughout the 42 days of the first phase of the ceasefire, Israel systematically violated the terms of the deal by delaying the delivery of humanitarian aid, heavy machinery for reconstruction, and prefabricated mobile homes, while continuing to periodically open fire on and kill Palestinian civilians in Gaza and obstruct the return of the displaced to their homes.
Druze Leader Warns Of ‘Israeli Plot’ To ‘Sabotage, Divide Syria’
A prominent Druze leader in Lebanon warned on Sunday of an Israeli plot to divide Syria along sectarian lines and create chaos amid clashes between Syrian government security forces and local Druze self-defense units in the Damascus suburb of Jaramana.
"The free Syrians must be cautious of the plots of Israel," veteran Druze leader Walid Jumblatt said at a news conference Sunday.
"In Syria, there is a plot for sabotage. There is a plot for sabotage in the region and for the Arabs' national security," Jumblatt added.
Jumblatt said he plans to visit Syria, following weekend clashes between militants from the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)-led Syrian government and Druze self-defense units in the Damascus suburb of Jaramana.

European leaders—together with NATO chief Mark Rutte and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau—met in London on Sunday to discuss further militarization and support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s administration following his humiliation at the hands of the US president and vice president. Trump and Vance’s treatment of Zelenskyy only deepened the perplexity that has been haunting European countries since January, when the new US administration began to chill relations towards its Atlantic allies.

President Trump has said that the US will impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico on Tuesday, saying there’s “no room left” for the two countries to avoid the measures.
Trump signed an executive order on February 1 to impose the 25% tariffs on all goods coming from Mexico and Canada with a carve-out for Canadian oil, which will be hit with a 10% tariff.
Trump paused the tariffs for 30 days after speaking with the leaders of Canada and Mexico, who both pledged to work to stem the flow of fentanyl and migrants entering the US. But Trump said on Monday that drugs were still “pouring into our Country from Mexico and Canada at very high and unacceptable levels.”

A Tennessee union announced Monday that 34 Uber and Lyft drivers received messages "informing them that they had been permanently banned" from working at Nashville's airport after joining scores of workers for a peaceful caravan there last month to support a state bill that would impact the companies.
The Tennessee Drivers Union (TDU) said in a statement that some participants, "including those in the passenger's seat not driving," were banned from providing rides at Nashville International Airport following the February 14 action, during which "participating Uber and Lyft drivers had their apps turned off."
Plants Are Losing Their Ability To Absorb Carbon Dioxide

Our planet’s plants and soils reached the peak of their ability to absorb carbon dioxide in 2008, and their sequestration rate has been falling ever since, according to a new analysis by a father-and-son team in the United Kingdom.
At first, the added carbon led to warmer temperatures, vegetation growth and a longer growing season. Once a tipping point was reached, however, the combination of heat stress, wildfires, drought, flooding, storms and the spread of new diseases and pests led to a reduction in the amount of carbon plants can soak up.
“The rate of natural sequestration of CO2 from the atmosphere by the terrestrial biosphere peaked in 2008.

“Tell our story!” the man in the checkpoint cage yelled, in English. He and a crowd of Palestinian Muslim men were jammed together waiting to be checked out, one at a time, by an Israeli soldier in a glass booth so they could go into Hebron’s Ibrahimi Mosque to pray. Such daily and routine humiliation is the hallmark of the Israeli occupation.
I was in Hebron (Al-Khalil) for two weeks recently as part of a Community Peacemaker Team (CPT) delegation. Every day, we accompanied or heard testimony from people living there who were living under the guns of the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) and the aggressive hostility of the 800 settlers who claim that the city of 200,000 was given to them by their god.

The supporters of the Ukraine Solidarity Network (USN) inhabit the same contradictory moral and political space as the European leaders who met with Volodymyr Zelensky, their frontman from Ukraine, to reaffirm their collective commitment to the proxy war in Ukraine. The language of self-determination and rights easily flowed from their lips but not one of them had a word to say about the self-determination of Palestinians who are now facing another illegal siege by Israel in occupied Gaza.
This is the terrain of white privilege that must be confronted. The power to define who is human and who has rights.

Europe’s militarization has been accelerating long before Donald Trump’s return to the White House. In the past three years, Poland has increased its military spending to nearly 4% of GDP, French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to “transform” the French military for a new era, and most recently, Britain’s Labour government announced plans to slash international aid to fund a “generational” boost in defense spending.
This renewed focus on expanding arsenals is growing while the region remains subordinated to US interests.

I always knew that my chances of a pardon were very poor. But I thought that I at least had a shot for a number of reasons.
First, as background, I was convicted in 2012 of violating the obscure Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982. I was only the second person ever charged with violating this law. The other person confessed to spying against the U.S. for Ghana.

All that came crashing down on him Friday in the 102-foot circumference, 816 sq. foot office at the epicenter of still the most powerful nation on earth, He was met by a buzzsaw of resistance from the president and vice president of the United States. Zelensky was dressed down, even about his dress, being told he was ungrateful, disrespectful, had lost to Russia and was risking “World War III.”

The White House is considering ending all aid transfers, including weapons, to Ukraine after an Oval Office press conference turned into an argument between President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Zelensky.
According to The Washington Post, “The Trump administration is considering ending all ongoing shipments of military aid to Ukraine in response to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s remarks in the Oval Office on Friday and his perceived intransigence in the peace process.”
If the aid is terminated, Ukraine would not receive billions of dollars in weapons from the US, including missiles and ammunition that was approved through the Presidential Drawdown Authority.
