Latin American Ministers Meet To Unify Their Stance On Trump’s Policies

On Thursday, ministers, deputy ministers, and heads of delegations from 10 Latin American and Caribbean countries met in Mexico City to develop a joint strategy in response to the threats of mass deportations by Donald Trump. The “Meeting on Human Mobility in the Northern Route of the Continent: Towards an Orderly, Safe, Regular, Responsible, and Humane Management” was attended by representatives from Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, and Venezuela. “In light of the challenges we face in migration matters, we gathered in Mexico City to discuss and coordinate actions aimed at protecting the human rights of migrants, preventing abuse and mistreatment, managing migration from a humanitarian perspective in an orderly, safe, and regular manner, as well as integrating migrant populations,” stated the Mexican foreign affairs ministry.

How Labor Can Fight Against Trump’s Mass Deportation Agenda

This is a frightening time for immigrant workers. President-elect Donald Trump ran on the slogan “mass deportations now,” and has appointed a team of anti-immigrant hardliners. The leadership of the Democratic Party has lurched to the right on this issue, adopting Trump’s rhetoric about “securing the border,” and embracing core Republican policies. A bill that would target undocumented people for deportations if they are merely accused—not convicted—of nonviolent crimes like shoplifting passed in the House with bipartisan support. It’s moving forward in the Senate where only eight Democrats opposed its advance.

Warhawk Senator Marco Rubio Confirmed As Secretary Of State

Yesterday, amid the momentous news of a ceasefire agreement finally being reached in Gaza, right-wing Senator Marco Rubio was confirmed as Trump’s Secretary of State by the United States Senate. To some, Rubio’s confirmation, given his reputation as a warhawk known for promoting an aggressive approach against countries that do not tip-toe around the US line on foreign policy, contradicts Trump’s campaign promise of “preventing World War III.” Rubio’s role as Secretary of State signals that Trump may immediately relist Cuba as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. This week, in his final days as President, Biden removed Cuba from the SSoT list, a designation which has resulted in multiple humanitarian crises on the island.

Tens of Thousands Rally Against Trumpism At The People’s March 2025

Washington DC — Tens of thousands from a coalition of hundreds of groups rallied and marched through downtown Washington DC in opposition to the incoming president and his agenda on the eve of his second inauguration, Saturday. It was the same president and agenda they rallied and marched against on the eve of his first inauguration in 2017. Their issues and rallying cries were plainly written on their signs and were as evident in their voices as they echoed off the granite walls of the office buildings they passed. They paused frequently and when they passed the windows at the seat of power in the White House and Old Executive Mansion their voices rose there as well.

Over 80 US Cities To Hold Protests On Trump’s Inauguration Day

Conveners of the demonstrations have spoken to the variety of Trump’s promised attacks on working people. “Trump is planning to wage war on immigrant families through a brutal mass deportation campaign,” said Claudia De La Cruz, who ran on a socialist platform in her campaign for president against both Harris and Trump, on the ticket of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. “We will stand up and say NO to these attacks. Trump is a billionaire, was elected with the help of other billionaires, and runs the government on behalf of the billionaire class.

Want To Defend Immigrant Workers In Your Contract?

The following language was compiled from a series of unions and labor activists. It is intended as a resource for workers looking to include pro-immigrant provisions in their collective bargaining agreements. The Employer will require that any federal immigration agent, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agent, or State and Local law enforcement officials comply with legal requirements before they may be allowed to interrogate, search or seize the person or property of any worker.

The Ceasefire Charade

Israel, going back decades, has played a duplicitous game. It signs a deal with the Palestinians that is to be implemented in phases. The first phase gives Israel what it wants — in this case the release of the Israeli hostages in Gaza — but Israel habitually fails to implement subsequent phases that would lead to a just and equitable peace. It eventually provokes the Palestinians with indiscriminate armed assaults to retaliate, defines a Palestinian response as a provocation and abrogates the ceasefire deal to reignite the slaughter. If this latest three-phase ceasefire deal is ratified — and there is no certainty that it will be by Israel — it will, I expect, be little more than a presidential inauguration bombing pause.

Stealing Credit For The Gaza Ceasefire

Biden at no time seriously sought any ceasefire. Instead he unceasingly facilitated Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza in a 15-month crime spree, punctuated by pro forma attempts at “ceasefires,” which Biden allowed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to sabotage every time.  Biden’s “attempts” at “ceasefires” were actually electoral stunts to try to con voters, who were opposed to his genocidal policy, into thinking he was really concerned about thousands of innocent lives being systematically snuffed out with American bombs. He was also trying to make Americans believe he was earnestly attempting to stop the daily massacres.

Update: Responses Show Washington Post Is Hearing From Its Critics

In two instances in the past couple of weeks, the Washington Post has acknowledged criticisms made by FAIR activists and others. Post editors may not be backing down, but they are hearing you. The first response was a Washington Post editorial (1/3/25) headlined “Readers Disagreed With Us on Israel and the ICC. Here’s Our Response.” This was an attempt to defend an earlier Post editorial, “The International Criminal Court Is Not the Venue to Hold Israel to Account” (11/24/24), which had been the subject of a FAIR Action Alert (11/26/24) and widespread criticism elsewhere (e.g., X, 11/25/24).

As The World Heats Up, FERC Cools Regulations

Washington, DC – For the past 10 years a group of resolute environmental activists from Beyond Extreme Energy, Third Act and others have been attending and protesting at the monthly public meetings of FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission). Each month the climate change activists stand vigilant outside the Commissions FERC headquarters building before each meeting, protesting, picketing and greeting attendees, calling their attention to concerns and informing passersby on how the commissions decisions exacerbate the global climate crisis.

Chicago: Ready For The Fight To Stop The Trump Agenda

Chicago, IL – 300 activists, mostly from Latino communities, and many who are immigrants, packed into City Hall this morning to oppose an attack by city council members against Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance. Cook County Commissioner Anthony Quezada kicked off the rally with chants alternating between Spanish and English. “When Black people are under attack, what do you do?” “Stand up, fight back!” “When sanctuary is under attack, what do you do?” “Stand up, fight back!” Then in Spanish, “Pueblo, escucha! Estamos en la lucha!” Which roughly means, “People, listen! We’re in the struggle!”

What Greenlanders Make Of Donald Trump’s Advances

Greenland’s prime minister has called for unity and calm after Donald Trump reheated his global row with Nato allies on Tuesday, when the US president-elect said he was prepared to use tariffs or military force to seize control of Greenland. The comments led the Greenlandic prime minister, Múte Egede, to say: “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders.” The UK foreign secretary, David Lammy, said on Thursday that the US seizure of Greenland is “not going to happen”, while Germany and France have warned Trump over annexation.

Trump’s Felony Conviction Appeal Will Show How Fully He’s Above The Law

Donald Trump has always maintained that the laws don’t apply to him. But he failed to convince New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan to delay sentencing him this month following the May 2024 jury verdict finding him guilty of 34 state felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up a sex scandal in New York v. Trump. Trump appealed Merchan’s denial of his motion to put off the sentencing. Justice Ellen Gesmer, a New York appeals court judge, affirmed Merchan’s ruling that the sentencing should proceed. She was not convinced that presidents-elect enjoy presidential immunity.

Michigan’s Muslims Take Matters Into Their Own Hands

West Bloomfield, Michigan — More than 100 of Nour Abubars’ relatives in Gaza have been killed by Israel over the past year, according to the grim tallies she receives from family members. Her cousin Asma and Asma’s teenaged sons were killed in the August 2024 Fajr Massacre, a bombing during prayer at a school where they sheltered in Gaza City. Two days before Election Day, Abubars, 30, sat in her home outside Detroit contemplating whether to vote, considering that America sent the bombs that killed her family. “I’m one of those people that believe that it’s very selfish not to vote, but this time around, I cannot make a decision,” she says.
