US & Its Afghan Trainees Now Killing More Civilians Than The Taliban

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN — For the first time in recorded history, the U.S. and the Afghan government, whose forces are trained by Americans, killed more civilians than did the Taliban in the first quarter of 2019, according to a United Nations report. Increased bombing campaigns by the U.S. and increasingly reckless search operations by pro-government forces have fueled the trend reversal. While the U.S. war in Afghanistan was bloodiest in its infancy, little data is available until 2009, when the UN started keeping track of civilian casualties and the U.S. started accounting for the bombs and munitions it drops on the country.

Over 450 Brazilian Jurists Call For Release Of Lula

A manifesto signed by 464 Brazilian jurists calls for the release of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who has been held as a political prisoner since April 7, 2018, after being sentenced on the second instance for passive corruption and money laundering without any evidence against him. The document is addressed to the ministers of the Fifth Panel of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), Felix Fischer, Jorge Mussi, Reynaldo Soares da Fonseca and Ribeiro Dantas. In the text, jurists point out that Lula is a victim of injustice and violence practiced by the state.

Venezuela: Communication Minister Shows Truth Of Border Violence

On Sunday, Venezuelan Minister of Communication and Information Jorge Rodriguez revealed the truth of the violence on the Simon Bolivar-Venezuela border bridge. His revelations show the falsification of reports by mainstream media related to Saturday’s violence. "We have to denounce to the world the immense and powerful operation of false flags attacking Venezuela," stated the Bolivarian politician. Rodriguez revealed videos made from the protests which evidently shows that the burning of the two vehicles, which the mainstream media blamed on members of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), which occurred on the Colombian side, but was in fact caused by Molotov cocktails thrown by opposition youths, or Guarimbas.

MANKATO, Minn. — On Wednesday, the Dakota Prayer Ride and Water Walk reached its destination, Mankato’s Reconciliation Park, concluding the ceremony that started in Sisseton, South Dakota on December 10. The 17-day walk and ride, organized by women of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate, followed the path their ancestors took fleeing the 1862 Dakota Uprising. Participants joined the 38+2 Wokiksuye (Memorial) Ride, the overnight Mankato Run from Fort Snelling, well wishers, and dignitaries including Lakota spiritual leader Arvol Looking Horse and Minnesota Governor-elect Tim Walz for a ceremony honoring the people.

The investigative reporter Seymour Hersh, in his memoir “Reporter,” describes a moment when as a young reporter he overheard a Chicago cop admit to murdering an African-American man. The murdered man had been falsely described by police as a robbery suspect who had been shot while trying to avoid arrest. Hersh frantically called his editor to ask what to do. “The editor urged me to do nothing,” he writes. “It would be my word versus that of all the cops involved, and all would accuse me of lying. The message was clear: I did not have a story. But of course I did.” He describes himself as “full of despair at my weakness and the weakness of a profession that dealt so easily with compromise and self-censorship.”

HOUSTON (AP) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection ordered medical checks on every child in its custody Tuesday after an 8-year-old boy from Guatemala died, marking the second death of an immigrant child in the agency’s care this month. The death came during an ongoing dispute over border security and with a partial government shutdown underway over President Donald Trump’s request for border wall funding. The boy, identified by Guatemalan authorities as Felipe Gómez Alonzo, had been in CBP’s custody with his father, Agustin Gomez, since Dec. 18. CBP said in a statement late Tuesday that an agent first noticed the boy had a cough and “glossy eyes” at about 9 a.m. Monday.

But as communities learn of these trips and their content, they are quickly backing out. Palestinians have paid a great price for their call for life with dignity during mass protests held along Gaza’s boundary with Israel over the past eight months. Some 180 Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli occupation forces and nearly 6,000 others injured by live fire during the Great March of Return. “The vast majority of casualties were unarmed, and were fatally shot from a distance while in the Gaza Strip itself,” according to a new report by the Israeli group B’Tselem, confirming previous findings by other rights organizations. “As a general rule, the protectively clad troops sniping at them from other side of the fence were not in any real danger,” B’Tselem added.

On Wednesday, November 21st, a jury in Tucson, Arizona found Border Patrol agent Lonnie Swartz not guilty of involuntary manslaughter for his 2012 shooting of 16 year old José Antonio Elena Rodríguez. Though Lonnie Swartz’s killing of José Antonio is only one among many murders committed by Border Patrol, the particularly egregious nature of the shooting made it the first time in history that a BP agent has faced criminal charges after killing someone. Swartz shot through the border wall from Nogales, Arizona into Nogales, Sonora, hitting the unarmed teenager ten times in the back and killing him instantly. A previous trial had already found Swartz not guilty for second-degree murder, but could not come to a decision on manslaughter charges...

Sunday November 18, 2018, was the 215th anniversary of the victory at the battle of Vertieres when Haitians won a decisive battle against French forces in 1803, leading to the declaration of Haitian independence. People all over Haiti marked the occasion with massive protests against the theft of billions of dollars of Petrocaribe funds provided to the Haitian government by Venezuela. The demonstrators continued their call for the end to the murderous UN/US occupation and the imposed, illegitimate government of president Jovenel Moise and prime minister Jean-Henri Ceant.
