JD Vance: West Wants Global South Trapped At Bottom Of Value Chain

US Vice President JD Vance gave a speech about globalization that made it clear that Washington’s goal is to keep formerly colonized countries in the Global South trapped at the bottom of the global value chain. Vance acknowledged that the US-led West wants to maintain a strict international division of labor, in which poor countries in the periphery produce low value-added goods (with lots of competition and therefore low profits), whereas the rich nations in the core extract exorbitant monopoly rents through their control over high value-added technologies (with little to no competition, reinforced by strict intellectual property rights).

Panama City, Panama — Recent developments in Panama's security policies indicate a departure from its longstanding commitment to demilitarization, raising concerns about national sovereignty and renewed U.S. military influence in the region.​ Since the disbandment of its military in 1990, following the U.S. invasion to depose General Manuel Noriega, Panama has maintained a policy of demilitarization. This stance is enshrined in Article 310 of the Panamanian Constitution, which explicitly states:​ "La República de Panamá no tendrá ejército" ("The Republic of Panama shall not have an army").​

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth issued the demand to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani during a phone call last Sunday, The source stressed that “this issue is of special interest to the administration of [US] President Donald Trump.” Sudani informed the US side that his government is working to address this issue through ongoing dialogue with the armed factions, known collectively as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), the source added.

Trump puts forward the plan, and Israeli officials put it into action. So you’ve got both the U.S. and Israeli governments openly threatening the entire population of the Gaza strip with the war crime of collective punishment if they don’t somehow kick Hamas out of Gaza, and additionally announcing the intent to inflict “total devastation” upon that population if they do not.

The Yemeni Armed Forces (YAF) targeted Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv early on 20 March, marking its second attack on Israel since the resumption of all-out war on the Gaza Strip, which has killed over 700 people since the start of the week. The YAF also carried out its fifth operation targeting the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea, following several new US attacks on Yemen. “The YAF missile force carried out a military operation targeting Ben Gurion Airport in the occupied Jaffa region with a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile.

The vast majority of people in Greenland oppose becoming part of the United States, despite Donald Trump’s threats to colonize their land. A staggering 85% of Greenlanders do not want to join the US, according to a poll published in January by a Greenlandic newspaper. Just 6% of people in Greenland support Trump’s proposal to annex their homeland. (The remaining 9% are undecided.) Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark, although polls have long shown that the majority of people there, who are of indigenous Inuit descent, consider themselves to be a separate country and want formal independence.

The US aggression was launched on the order of President Donald Trump, who announced via his Truth Social account on Saturday, that it aimed at “protecting US shipping, air, and naval assets and to restore navigation freedom” from Ansar Allah’s attacks. “Our brave Warfighters are right now carrying out aerial attacks on the terrorists’ bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect American shipping, air, and naval assets, and to restore Navigational Freedom,” Trump’s post reads.

The Yemeni Armed Forces (YAF) targeted Washington’s aircraft carrier the USS Harry Truman twice in 24 hours, in response to the deadly US–British attack against Yemen over the weekend. “For the second time within 24 hours, the American aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman was targeted in the northern Red Sea with a number of ballistic and cruise missiles and drones in a clash that lasted for several hours,” the YAF said in a statement early on 17 March. The army said it “succeeded in thwarting a hostile attack that the enemy was preparing to launch against our country,” adding that “its warplanes were forced to return from where they had taken off after a number of missiles and drones were launched at the aircraft carrier and a number of its warships.”

US and British warplanes launched a new round of airstrikes on a residential neighborhood in the Shuaab district of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, late on 15 March, killing at least nine civilians and injuring several more. "The explosions were violent and shook the neighborhood like an earthquake. They terrified our women and children," a resident of the area told Reuters. "Our brave Warfighters are right now carrying out aerial attacks on the terrorists’ bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect American shipping, air, and naval assets and to restore Navigational Freedom,” US President Donald Trump said in a social media post following the attacks.
