Ukraine fired at least 10 British-provided Storm Shadow missiles into Russia’s Kursk Oblast, The Wall Street Journal and several other media outlets reported on Wednesday.
Ukraine has used the Storm Shadow missiles, which have a range of up to 155 miles, in strikes on Crimea, but Wednesday’s attack, which targeted the Kursk Oblast, marks the first time Ukrainian forces fired them into the Russian mainland, another major escalation of the proxy war. So far, Russia hasn’t confirmed the use of Storm Shadows.
The US and the UK reportedly authorized Ukraine’s use of the Storm Shadows in strikes on Russian territory after President Biden gave the green light for Ukraine to use the ATACMS.
The High-Tech War On Working Class Black Atlantans

Atlanta, militarism, Police, Surveillance
Modern technologies like facial recognition, predictive policing, and expansive surveillance networks are not mere tools of public safety; they are instruments of militarization, deeply embedded in the war against Black communities in Atlanta, the most surveilled city in the U.S. These technologies target Black poor and working class neighborhoods disproportionately, enforcing capitalist exploitation and reinforcing racial hierarchies.
Surveillance in Atlanta operates as a militarized extension of policing, transforming Black neighborhoods into domestic battlefields.
Biden’s Legacy: Leaving FOIA In Shambles
President Joe Biden’s administration promised a “recommitment to the highest standards of transparency,” and officials were well aware of the extent to which Donald Trump’s administration had engaged in censorship and undermined the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
Despite promises, when it came to FOIA and the public’s right to know, the Biden administration was just as bad or slightly worse than the Trump administration during its last fiscal year in office. In fiscal year 2023, United States government agencies censored, withheld, or claimed that they could not find any records two-thirds of the time.

When Stephenie came upon workers in Portland, Oregon, who had bagged up all of her belongings in a homeless encampment sweep, she desperately pleaded to get one item back: her purse. It contained her cash and food stamp card — what she needed to survive.
The crew refused to look for it, she said. The items workers had put in clear bags were headed to a city warehouse. Those in black bags were headed to a landfill.
They handed her a card with a phone number to call if she wanted to pick up her things.

The news that Arizona voters on 5 November had approved the so-called “secure our border” initiative hit Reyna Montoya like a gut punch.
The measure – proposition 314 on the ballot – makes crossing the US-Mexico border without authorization a state crime, empowering local officials to arrest and deport border-crossers and enhancing criminal penalties for unauthorised immigrants who apply for public benefits.
The initiative is modelled after a Texas law that is currently being challenged in court, and some of its key provisions will be blocked until the Texas law, or another similar law, is allowed to take effect.

“On the campaign trail, she [María Corina Machado] was received almost as a religious figure, often wearing white, promising to restore democracy and reunite families torn apart by an economic crisis and mass migration. ‘María!’ her followers shouted, before falling into her arms,” the New York Times reverently reported.
Indeed, Machado’s personally chosen surrogate to contend in last July’s Venezuelan presidential election, Edmundo González, did fall into her arms. But that was because her infirm disciple had trouble, both literally and figuratively, standing on his own two feet.

According to a recent Harris poll, 70% of people in the U.S. want talks to end the war in Ukraine.
The New York Times is not listening, however, nor is the Biden administration. President Biden’s unilateral decision this week to green-light attacking Russia with U.S. long range missiles has been condemned by U.S. peace groups.
“In approving these strikes, the Biden White House chose to make the US a direct party to the Ukraine-Russia war, crossing a previous red line and causing Russia to lower the threshold on the use of nuclear weapons…. A lame duck president, Biden opts for last minute escalation to make it even more difficult for the incoming administration to broker a peaceful settlement,” wrote Code Pink, World Beyond War, Veterans For Peace, the Peace In Ukraine Coalition and the End Wars Working Group of Progressive Democrats of America.

New York - I am in the The Krikor and Clara Zohrab Information Center next to the St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral in Manhattan. I am holding a bound, hand-written memoir, which includes poetry, drawings, and scrapbooked images, by Zaven Seraidarian, a survivor of the Armenian genocide. The front cover of the book, one of six volumes, reads “Bloody Journal.” The other volumes have titles such as “Drops of Springtime,” “Tears” and “The Wooden Spoon.”
“My name will remain immortal on the earth,” the author writes. “I will speak about myself and tell more.”

The US government is lobbying Democratic senators to vote against legislation that would halt $20 billion worth of arms sales to Israel, according to US officials who spoke with the Times of Israel on 20 November.
“Biden aides have argued that the weapons in question are essential for Israel’s defense and won’t be delivered for another year or two, ‘so the likelihood of them being used in this iteration of the Gaza context is very low,’” the Israeli daily cites the sources as saying, adding that officials from the White House, State Department, and Pentagon have reached out to “various lawmakers on the fence about how they might vote.”
United Nations Security Council Votes On Draft Ceasefire Resolution
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will vote on a draft resolution calling for an "immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire to be respected by all parties in the Gaza Strip, informed sources told Al Mayadeen.
Informed sources explained that the draft resolution reiterates the Council’s demand for the "immediate and unconditional release" of all captives and rejects "any effort to starve the Palestinian population."
The resolution also calls for "immediate access to essential services and humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza, facilitating the wide-scale entry and delivery of humanitarian assistance, including to civilians in the besieged north Gaza."
Biden’s APEC Summit Visit: ‘One More Slap In Face To Western Empire’
Outgoing US President Joe Biden was unable to score a diplomatic breakthrough of any kind last week during his appearance at the annual APEC Summit in Peru.
The meeting between Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping was pure formality, argues Jeff J. Brown, author of “The China Trilogy” and founder of Seek Truth From Facts Foundation.
“The Chinese know that Biden is the quintessential lame duck. Being very Confucist and wanting to respect protocol, position and tradition, they met. But that is about all,” Brown says.
According to him, what Xi told Biden during the meeting basically amounted to reiterating what the former previously told Donald Trump by phone earlier this month: “cooperation is mutually beneficial for both sides; as two leading world powers, humanity depends on us to do the right thing, and trying to limit China’s progress and development is bound to fail.”

Black and Hispanic people in New York state prisons have a much higher chance to be denied parole than whites over the past three years — a divide that’s gotten worse since being highlighted in 2016, a new study shows.
New York’s Parole Board released 34.79% of people of color while letting out 48.71% of white people from January through June 2024, based on a report by New York University School of Law’s Center for Race, Inequality & the Law posted online Monday.
Since Gov. Kathy Hochul took office in 2021, there would be 1,338 fewer Blacks and Hispanics behind bars if they were paroled at the same rate as whites, the report shows.

For years, it was a mystery: Seemingly out of the blue, therapists would feel like they’d tripped some invisible wire and become a target of UnitedHealth Group.
A company representative with the Orwellian title “care advocate” would call and grill them about why they’d seen a patient twice a week or weekly for six months.
In case after case, United would refuse to cover care, leaving patients to pay out-of-pocket or go without it. The severity of their issues seemed not to matter.
Around 2016, government officials began to pry open United’s black box.

Israel has intensified its air strikes on Lebanon and in particular on Beirut, ahead of a visit on Tuesday or Wednesday by U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein, at which he will press Lebanon to accept a U.S./Israeli ceasefire plan.
This plan is touted as being based on U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 [of 2006], but in fact represents its abnegation.
You may have noted that neoliberal politicians and media pundits, who ignore and denigrate every other U.N. resolution on the Middle East, are suddenly very enthusiastic about UNSCR 1701. This is because it mandates withdrawal of Hezbollah forces to the north of the river Litani.

In response to reports of President Biden authorizing long-range Ukrainian strikes inside Russia with US missiles, the Kremlin pointed to a warning previously made by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In September, Putin was asked about the possibility of NATO supporting long-range strikes on Russian territory and said it would mean the US and European NATO countries were “at war with Russia.” He added that if that’s “the case, then taking into account the change of nature of the conflict, we will take the appropriate decisions based on the threats that we will face.”
