In recent years, both Democrats and Republicans have been vying for the attention of Wisconsin’s Black residents, who are largely concentrated in Milwaukee, the most populous city in this critical swing state. The Democratic Party chose the city as its convention host in 2020, with Republicans following suit this year. Today, Harris is expected to be in Milwaukee for what could now be her first official campaign stop as she vies for the presidency, with Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes up for grabs. But the frenzy of outreach from party leaders to lure voters who have been disenfranchised for generations is like trying to sweep water out of the Titanic.

According to a new study, global methane emissions are “rising rapidly” — at the fastest pace in decades — with immediate action needed to help curtail a dangerous intensification of the climate crisis.
The study outlines three “imperatives” for reducing methane emissions, as well as a new tool to assist nations with optimizing cost-effective methods to reduce their methane emissions, an explainer from Frontiers said.
The actions called for by the study’s authors include reversing methane emissions growth, aligning carbon dioxide and methane mitigation and optimizing policies and technologies for the abatement of methane at the global, national and sector levels.

Tensions between Israel and Lebanon reached a breaking point once again on Sunday, after 12 people were killed by the explosion of a projectile that fell on a playground in the town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights. Israel accused Hezbollah of having launched the projectile, which it claimed to be an Iranian-made “heavy” rocket. Hezbollah denied responsibility and said that the explosion was the result of a malfunction of an Israeli anti-missile round.
Late on Sunday, the Israeli cabinet concluded an emergency meeting in which, according to Israeli reports, ministers voted to delegate Netanyahu and his war minister Yoav Gallant to decide on retaliatory action against Hezbollah.

Shortly before midnight, the president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, announced the re-election of Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro. Like the proverbial boy who cried wolf, the US-backed and funded opposition cried fraud.
Maduro won with 51.2% of the vote. His nearest rival, the US-backed candidate Edmundo Gonzalez trailed by 7%.
While the US corporate press refers to the “opposition” as if it were a unified bloc, eight other names appeared on the ballot. Unlike the US, where most of the electorate is polarized around two major parties, the fractious opposition in Venezuela is split into many mutually hostile camps whose dislike of the ruling Socialist Party is matched by their loathing for each other.

Much to the chagrin of the U.S. government, socialist candidate Nicolas Maduro won a third successive term in office on Sunday, convincingly beating his U.S.-backed opponents, Edmundo Gonzalez and Maria Corina Machado, by seven points.
Almost immediately after the results were announced, American officials began decrying the elections as a farce. “We commend [the Venezuelan people’s] courage and commitment to democracy in the face of repression,” Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a speech on Sunday evening, adding:
We have serious concerns that the result announced does not affect the will or the votes of the Venezuelan people. It is critical that every vote be counted fairly and transparently.

The president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, called on supporters of the Chavista revolutionary movement to mobilize this Tuesday in the streets of Caracas to ensure the peace of the country and the electoral victory of President Nicolás Maduro and to reject the violence unleashed by the extremist opposition that refuses to recognize the results of the National Electoral Council and the will of the Venezuelans.
“We call on all our people to march tomorrow at two in the afternoon from Petare to Miraflores, also from Catia, La Vega, and El Valle to celebrate our victory, but above all, to defend the peace of the republic,” Rodríguez said during a speech on Monday, July 29, from the Federal Legislative Palace in Caracas.

Thus, President Maduro’s margin of victory was deemed irreversible at about seven percentage points.
The first bulletin with the results of the Venezuelan presidential elections were released close to midnight on Sunday, July 28. Results were expected to be released around 11 pm. Amoroso explained that the slight delay was the result of an attack against the electronic vote transmission infrastructure.

July 29, 2024 – A delegation of five election observers from the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) monitored the presidential elections in Venezuela that took place on July 28, 2024. The delegation observed a transparent, fair voting process with scrupulous attention to legitimacy, access to the polls, and pluralism.
Despite the soundness of the electoral process, the U.S. backed opposition, with support from an anti-Maduro western press, has refused to accept the results, undermining the stability of Venezuela’s democracy. The president of the Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, called upon the attorney general to investigate the attacks on the electoral transmission system.

The first wave of attacks were in response to alleged political deportations of several political figures such as ex-vice president of Colombia Martha Lucía Ramírez, ex-president of Mexico Vicente Fox, ex-president of Bolivia Jorge Tuto Ramírez, who are part of the Miami-based right-wing think tank “Idea Grupo” who had attempted to travel to Venezuela to act as “electoral observers”. After they were denied entry to the country for not having proper accreditation from the country’s electoral authorities, they launched a campaign on social media alleging that they were arbitrarily detained and deported by the “Maduro regime”.

In his first speech after the Al-Aqsa Flood, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stated that the support front from Lebanon operates according to two criteria: one related to the scale of the enemy’s attacks and the other concerning the support needed to prevent the breaking of the resistance in Gaza.
The leader of Ansarallah, Sayyed Abdulmalik Al-Houthi, was quick to announce that Yemen’s involvement in the battle aims to stop the aggression and lift the siege on Gaza. Both parties, in all subsequent statements issued by their respective war media, emphasized key phrases: supporting Gaza, backing its resistance and striving to stop the aggression and lift the siege.

A new report from The Washington Post published on 29 July details Israel’s torture, starvation, and killing of Palestinians in its prison system in a manner resembling the notorious US prison in Guantanamo Bay.
Based on eyewitness accounts from former prisoners and autopsies carried out by Israeli authorities, The Post reports that “One Palestinian inmate died with a ruptured spleen and broken ribs after being beaten by Israeli prison guards. Another met an excruciating end because a chronic condition went untreated. A third screamed for help for hours before dying.”
The three prisoners are among at least 12 Palestinians from the West Bank and Israel to die in Israeli jails since 7 October.

The situation here in the occupied West Bank has been horrible before 7 October but the level of horror amplified ten fold since. This increase in rate of home demolitions, land confiscation, killing of Palestinians, military and settler pogroms against our people, closing off of 12 ghettos/concentration camps created to store the unwanted indigenous people. All Palestinians are targets whether they miraculously remained in Palestine or are in exile diaspora. The Zionist movement is taking desperate measures to liquidate even the hope of liberation. Even the delusional hope of a two state "solution" is obliterated with laws and with increased colonial settlements: There are two times more colonial settlers per square kilometer here in the West Bank than inside the Green Line.

The signing of a new reconciliation deal between rival Palestinian factions in China on Tuesday was received by Palestinians both as a surprise and as unremarkable. It was not the first time that Palestinian leaders had signed an agreement committing to national unity – agreements that have previously and routinely failed to end the political divisions between the parties. But the new agreement signed in China also came completely unannounced, after recent attempts to breach the gaps between the factions during the current war, failed miserably. Is it possible the new agreement reflected a breakthrough?

The children of Palestine are striking for their curiosity and fearlessness. Small groups approached whenever I was out walking, often trailing me for several blocks, as they peppered me with questions: “Where are you from?” being the most common. It was generally followed by “How old are you?”
I thought the query about my age peculiar and even a bit cheeky until a teacher explained to me that it was among the standard questions they learn when studying English.
Inevitably the boldest among them would ask the one question they were most interested in knowing the answer to, especially coming from an American: “Israel or Palestine?”
Pentagon Again Uses Budget Lies To Deliver More Weapons To Ukraine
In accounting an entity can generally use one of several methods to account for stock material. Using (ever increasing) replacement costs or (ever decreasing) book value are two arguably valid methods. What is a no-no though is to change horses during race. One either uses one or the other. One never-ever changes the applied accounting method during the accounting period.
Any commercial company doing what the Pentagon is doing here would be asking for serious trouble.
One wonder if and when Congress will wake up to this.
