Education is the foundation of political change. In this section we provide news and analyses of current events that you won’t likely read or hear in the corporate media. Our sources are from organizations and independent media outlets free of corporate and government propaganda. We strongly encourage you to share these articles by email and social media so that together we create an echo chamber that overcomes the influence of the oligarchy. From the very inception of the United States, a privileged elite has engineered laws, institutions, and cultural narratives to preserve its dominance—initially through racialized land seizures and redistribution, the brutal system of chattel slavery, and exclusionary immigration policies; later through Jim Crow segregation; and today through more insidious mechanisms like militarized borders, discriminatory policing, mass incarceration, exploitative labor practices, and the weaponization of poverty. At the core lies structural white supremacy—an evolving, interlocking system of racial and class oppression that resists democracy, adapts with time, and refuses to cede power.
Bill Moyers Was A Truth-Teller, Not A Stenographer For The Powerful
My dear friend, Bill Moyers, died yesterday.
He was the finest interviewer I’ve ever worked with, probing, fearless, and profoundly attuned to both the fragility and the enduring promise of democracy. With a rare combination of moral clarity and intellectual generosity, Bill devoted his life to illuminating the dangers that threatened the democratic imagination and nurturing its most humane possibilities. His work was never about spectacle or self-regard; it was about awakening the American conscience.
Bill began his journey into the public eye as a young press secretary for President Lyndon B. Johnson, where he was thrust into the center of political history.

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a truce between Israel and Iran following nearly two weeks of open warfare.
Israel began the war, launching a surprise offensive on June 13, with airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, missile installations, and senior military and scientific personnel, in addition to numerous civilian targets.
In response, Iran launched a wave of ballistic missiles and drones deep into Israeli territory, triggering air raid sirens across Tel Aviv, Haifa and Beersheba and numerous other locations, causing unprecedented destruction in the country.
What began as a bilateral escalation quickly spiraled into something far more consequential: a direct confrontation between the United States and Iran.

Yesterday, June 26, was the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, first marked in 1998 to commemorate the historic day in 1987 when the UN Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment came into effect, and also to mark the historic day in 1945 when the United Nations Charter, the founding document of the UN, was signed in San Francisco by 50 countries.
Despite the best intentions of those who worked assiduously to create the Torture Convention over many decades, many of its signatories have — either openly or covertly — failed to fulfill their obligations to prevent the use of torture.

Although it seems like years, it has been only five months since President Donald Trump took office in the White House for the second time. His goal—effectively condensed in the slogan MAGA (Make America Great Again)—is to do whatever needs to be done to regain the lost primacy. It contemplates an unconventional socio-economic-political revolution whose scope involves us. For many reasons, Argentina and, above all, our South, are in the Trumpist “restoration” plan.
He said it clearly on January 20, 2025, when he took office in the White House: “An exciting new era of national success is beginning… From this moment on, the decline of the US is over”.
FBI Ambushes Immigrant Rights Activist Verita Topete In Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA – On Thursday, June 26, Verita Topete, an immigrant rights activist with Centro CSO, was ambushed by the FBI while walking her dog at a park. Federal agents aggressively approached her to serve a warrant and force her to give them her phone.
Topete has been very actively and publicly fighting back against the ICE raids that have terrorized Los Angeles and surrounding cities since the raids began spreading on June 6.
Topete helped lead protests and marches against deportations and demanding legalization for all. She has led barrio walks to inform people of their rights and has helped individuals defend themselves from being kidnapped by ICE and collaborating agencies.
What The Supreme Court Ruling Against ‘Universal Injunctions’ Means

Executive Orders, Judicial Branch, Universal Injunction, US Supreme Court
When presidents have tried to make big changes through executive orders, they have often hit a roadblock: A single federal judge, whether located in Seattle or Miami or anywhere in between, could stop these policies across the entire country.
But on June 27, 2025, the Supreme Court significantly limited this judicial power. In Trump v. CASA Inc., a 6-3 majority ruled that federal courts likely lack the authority to issue “universal injunctions” that block government policies nationwide. The ruling means that going forward federal judges can generally only block policies from being enforced against the specific plaintiffs who filed the lawsuit, not against everyone in the country.

The number in the graph above, based on data from the International Monetary Fund, is not an exaggeration. Despite the growing technological and industrial capacity of countries in the Global South, countries and corporations in the Global North continue to own intellectual property patents on key products, locking the South into indefinite patent payment regimes. These include patent payments for pharmaceuticals, digital technologies (such as licensing fees for software and telecommunications infrastructure), and agricultural goods (such as genetically modified seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and equipment).
War Propaganda, State Controlled Media, And The End Of African Stream

Every accusation is a confession when war propaganda is being spread by the state and its minions in corporate media. That adage is especially true when corporate media in the west use the term “state controlled” when they want to make the case for wars of aggression and to discredit those nations they label “adversaries.” If anyone is controlled by the state, it is the networks and major newspapers that can be counted on to march in lock step and repeat every narrative that is used to justify U.S. actions around the world.
There is no stronger state control of media than in the United States and the collective west.
South Korean President Skips NATO Summit For First Time In Four Years

Newly elected President of South Korea Lee Jae Myung will skip this year’s summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) starting on Tuesday, June 24. Lee cited the growing unrest in West Asia following the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday as one of the reasons for the decision.
The US bombed three Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday in an attempt to destroy its nuclear program. The bombings were part of the Israeli aggression on Iran which began on June 13 and killed hundreds of Iranians including scientists and some of its top military leadership.
Iran responded to the US aggression on Monday night by attacking its military base in Qatar.

At this week’s NATO summit in The Hague, leaders announced an alarming new goal: push military spending to 5 percent of nations’ GDP by 2035.
Framed as a response to rising global threats, particularly from Russia and terrorism, the declaration was hailed as a historic step.
But in truth, it represents a major step backwards — away from addressing the urgent needs of people and the planet, and toward an arms race that will impoverish societies while enriching weapons contractors.
This outrageous 5 percent spending target didn’t come out of nowhere — it’s the direct result of years of bullying by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The BRICS, the influential bloc of emerging geopolitical powers, demanded an immediate end to the cycle of violence in West Asia following the recent attacks against Iran. The group also pushed for the establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the region as a whole, a crucial measure to ensure long-term stability,
The Brazilian government, the current president of the bloc, issued the forceful statement on Tuesday, June 24. The statement responds directly to the recent United States and Israeli military attacks against Iran, events that have dangerously escalated regional tensions.

The financial system of the United States has always been prone to instability and crises. Now, however, under the new Trump administration, which is pushing for major cuts in regulation, including in the cryptocurrency sector in which the Trump family has a major financial stake, the financial system has become more vulnerable than ever, posing serious risks to the wider economy. Of course, this matters very little to Donald Trump, his family, and his billionaire friends. For Trump, the actual meaning of “America First” is “self-enrichment.”
In the interview that follows, progressive economist Gerald Epstein, a leading expert in finance and banking, talks about the changing nature of the U.S. finance system under Trump 2.0.

A day after the Israeli settler-colonial apartheid state launched a sneak attack on Iran, an Iran that thought it was involved in a serious negotiation with Israel’s main benefactor, the United States, the Black Alliance for Peace declared that “the Middle East is on fire because Israeli and U.S. imperialism lit the match.” Twelve days later after a fierce response from Iran that saw major Israeli cities hit by Iranian missiles and an attack by the U.S. on Iranian nuclear facilities, Israel gladly accepted a ceasefire imposed on them by the Trump administration. What happened?
There was never any ambiguity regarding the U.S. strategic objective to effect “regime change” in Iran.
Unable To Reinvent Itself, Democrats Can’t Capitalize On Trump’s Missteps

The DNC owes its stasis to the internecine feud that came to a head with Kamala Harris’ loss to Trump in last year’s general election and which spilled over into the New Year. That split pits party stalwarts against younger progressives who want Democrats to break from the conservative tradition established by Bill Clinton in his 1992 presidential campaign in a misguided effort to “out-Republican the Republicans.”
The DNC’s election of new leaders, including 25-year-old David Hogg, as one of four vice chairs, widened the political fissures. A survivor of the 2018 shooting at Parkland High School in Ft. Lauderdale that left 17 dead, Hogg championed gun control, health care reform and a change to the Democrats’ elitist messaging
