On Contact: Radical Hamilton

Alexander Hamilton, popularized by the musical, "Hamilton," was the first treasury secretary of the United States. He has been called 'the founding father of capitalism and imperialism,' but Hamilton was far more complex than a simple advocate for a market-drive economy. Christian Parenti, in his new book, "Radical Hamilton; Economic Lessons From a Misunderstood Founder," argues that his ideas for the US economy were distorted or ignored by the capitalist elites. Parenti goes back to Hamilton's neglected masterpiece, "Report on the Manufacturers" and "The Federalist Papers"...

On the show this week, Chris Hedges discusses what happened three decades ago in Yugoslavia when the country broke into brutal warring factions, and the parallels in the US today, with Croatian author and journalist, Slavenka Drakulić. Drakulić’s book ‘They Would Never Hurt a Fly’ is about the war criminals from the former Yugoslavia who were put on trial in the Hague. She explores not only the motivations of these killers and their sense of themselves, but also how such crimes were allowed to be perpetrated in her country.

Revolutionary Organization In Venezuela

Murray’s exhaustive reporting, which can be found at craigmurray.org.uk, has become one of the few sources of reliable information about the hearing, which has become notoriously difficult to cover due to court restrictions imposed on the press, and is being ignored by most mainstream news organizations.

She points out major flaws in the report's methodology and exposes one of its authors as a defender of Chilean fascists. She explains that the US and its allies are weaponizing human right in order to drum up support for a war on Venezuela.

Unrest In Kenosha Didn’t Come Out Of Thin Air

Eddie: A study in 2013 shows that Wisconsin incarcerated more black men than any other state in the United States in spite of the fact that the black population is only 6.5%. Also, Wisconsin has a very high rate of incarceration for indigenous people. So in light of the recent events in Kenosha, the Department of Corrections building was burned to the ground. And I have with me today, two people that work with the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee to talk about Wisconsin, its prison population, and what’s going on inside the prison in terms of organizing the incarcerated workers.

The weather is getting more extreme by the year and conversations about climate change are growing along with it. So when Michael Moore made the movie ‘Planet of the Humans’, criticizing the corporate co-optation of the green movement, he came under attack from well-connected activists. Lee Camp reports on how Bill McKibben, one of the targets of Moore’s movie, has adopted a role of helping some of the worst industries and institutions out there to greenwash their images. In an op-ed from a year ago, McKibben used his platform to rehabilitate the image of the US military.

On the show this week, Chris Hedges discusses the rise of the new black militancy with film director and producer Mobolaji Olambiwonnu. "The police murders of young black men and women in the United States, an average of three a day, along with a constant judicial and police harassment of those living in what Malcolm X called our own internal colonies have given rise to a new black militancy. Nowhere was this more evident than in Ferguson, Missouri following the murder of the teenager Michael Brown on August 9, 2014.
