Empires Are A Secret Until They Start Falling

In the past, we have written about the 2020s as a decade when US Empire will end. This is based on Alfred McCoy's predictions (listen to our interview with him on Clearing the FOG). Sociologist and peace scholar John Galtung believes US Empire will fall much faster, losing world dominance by 2020. Much of what he predicted when he said this in 2016 is happening now. In particular, there is a rise in "reactionary fascism" or a desire to go back to the "good old days," the cost of maintaining the empire is taking an increasing economic toll and other countries are starting to rebuke the US, both its requests for military assistance and its unfair economic demands. What this means for people in the United States and around the world depends on whether we can build a mass popular movement with the clarity of vision, skills, and solidarity necessary to navigate what is and will surely be a turbulent period.

Hollywood Propaganda Attack On Venezuela

Americans are loathe to think of themselves as being propagandized.  The idea is inconsistent with notions of exceptional goodness and superiority that are constantly evoked in this country. But government propaganda does not work in a vacuum. It is bolstered by the corporate media and that includes the entertainment industry. The latest in the story of fictitious CIA agent Jack Ryan is a case in point. The Ryan character appeared in five different feature films before moving to the small screen via Amazon Prime Video. The new season premieres in November and in this latest incarnation Ryan fights to prevent a nuclear armed Venezuela .  The upside down presentation is typical of the perversion of truth so prevalent in the United States.

Venezuela: US And 11 Latin American Countries Approve Activation Of TIAR

The United States and eleven Latin American countries spoke out in favour of a possible military intervention against the Venezuelan government. They did so through the activation in an assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) of the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR), a 1947 agreement that commits to mutual defense among American nations, that is, the possibility of establishing an armed coalition. “This decision acknowledges the fact that the depth of the Venezuelan crisis obliges us to appeal to all mechanisms,” said the chief of staff of Luis Almagro...

US Unearths Cold War Treaty To Target Venezuela

The TIAR is a mutual military defense agreement that clears the way for foreign intervention, a threat the Trump administration has refused to rule out over the past eight months of slow-motion coup since Guaido declared himself president in January with Washington’s blessing. While several US allies rushed to recognize his leadership and denounce President Maduro as a “usurper,” Guaido has repeatedly failed to actually seize power, leaving his backers looking increasingly ridiculous – and desperate. While US ambassador to the Organization of American States Carlos Trujillo insisted that the TIAR was activated “not to invoke military force,” but to “seek a legal framework” for it, Guaido’s self-proclaimed government has been operating outside the legal realm since the beginning.

Exit John Bolton, But Will That Mean An End To His Failed Foreign Policy?

Many who oppose the aggressive foreign policy of the United States under President Donald Trump, which has resulted in record numbers of bombs dropped, regime change operations against Venezuela, Nicaragua, Iran and Hong Kong, the abusive use of unilateral coercive measures (sanctions) and record military budgets, cheered when uber-hawk, John Bolton was removed as the National Security Advisor. Bolton undermined Trump numerous times such as when Trump wanted to get out of Syria and sought negotiations with North Korea and Iran. Bolton led Trump into regime-change operations in Nicaragua and Venezuela, both of which backfired. The firing of Bolton is an opportunity for Trump to make a major course correction on foreign policy as the 2020 election heats up.

Venezuela The Kind Of “Freedom” The Chicago Boys Would Like

After the Sakharov Prize for freedom of expression was awarded by the European Parliament to the Venezuelan Nazis and coup leaders in 2017. And after Michelle Bachelet’s embrace of Lorent Saleh, a Hitler admirer turned into a “free voice against the Maduro dictatorship”. Now comes another pearl from the right wing intelligencia: the Freedom Prize 2019 to María Corina Machado, of the Venezuelan Vente party. Perhaps not everyone in Europe knows the profile of this woman of the Venezuela extreme right, who gained the well-deserved epithet of “Maria of violence” for her habitual inclination for the coup.

What Are Our Tasks And Perspectives To Defend Venezuela?

President Hugo Chavez said these words at a civic-military parade in Caracas, Venezuela on July 5, 2011, during the 200th anniversary of Venezuela’s Declaration of Independence from Spain. As Chavez explains, through the achievements of the Bolivarian revolutionary process, now, the people of Venezuela not only mark their independence from Spain but also their tremendous advances towards independence from US imperialism.

“Go to hell”: Venezuelan Coup Leader Ricardo Hausmann Has WhatsApp Meltdown

Over the course of an entire day, Venezuelan coup leader Ricardo Hausmann melted down on WhatsApp after I confronted him about his hypocritical financial dealings and opacity. Hausmann has accepted speaking fees from repressive governments like Saudi Arabia while slamming banks that did business in Venezuela.

Venezuela, Ukraine, Hong Kong, … : Color Revolutions And Regime Change, A Modern Scourge Spawning Economic Destabilization And Civil War

This is a phenomenally heroic example of human integrity, and the success of socialism. President Maduro has assembled a team of brilliant leaders to represent his government, in particular, his Foreign Minister, Jorge Arreaza, an intellectual aristocrat of the highest order,  his expert Ambassador Samuel Moncada, and many others of remarkable sophistication, whose capacity to see beyond the idiocies of bourgeoise propaganda is admirable, and indeed, enviable.

The Citgo Conspiracy: Opposition Figures Accuse Guaidó Officials Of ‘Scam’ To Liquidate Venezuela’s Most Prized International Asset

On August 13, Juan Guaidó, the president of Venezuela’s legally defunct National Assembly, held a press conference in the streets of Caracas to discuss his nominee for the post of Citgo Petroleum Corporation’s CEO. “We have interviewed Carlos Jorda,” Guaidó announced in a carefully rehearsed intonation, explaining that the candidate to oversee the former Venezuela state-owned oil company would be tasked with “supporting and helping Citgo [safeguard its] assets.”

Colombia: CIA Platform For Aggression Against Venezuela

On August 28, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the creation of the Venezuela Affairs Unit (VAU), which will be located in the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia. This moves leaves no doubt that Colombia is being designated as the main platform for a US made coup d’état against the constitutional and legitimate government of Nicolas Maduro and the servile role that Colombian President Ivan Duque is expected to play. The Venezuelan Affairs Unit will be headed by James Story, a former chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas...

Ottawa Goes To Havana To Talk Venezuela. Returns Empty-Handed

Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland has just concluded a working visit to Cuba on August 28 intended to discuss the “crisis in Venezuela” with her Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez. A reading of the news release from the Ministry indicates that there were no tangible results aside from a statement that the two foreign ministers had “different perspectives on the crisis in Venezuela”, having agreed to disagree, and that “senior officials would stay in contact and continue to exchange views”.

Venezuela Exposes Failed Terrorist Plan From Colombia

Caracas, Venezuela - Vicepresident Jorge Rodriguez presented evidence of a failed attack on Venezuela's highest courts located in Caracas meant to be carried out by criminals trained in Colombia. The government of Venezuela denounced a failed series of attacks against several strategic targets in Caracas, conducted from Colombia, according to information revealed by the Vicepresident and Minister of Communication and Tourism, Jorge Rodriguez. Rodriguez presented evidence of the plan orchestrated from Colombia with the intention of destabilizing the government of President Nicolas Maduro. According to Vicepresident Rodriguez the criminal plan has been going on with the complicity of Colombian President Ivan Duque. According to Minister Rodriguez, the plan included an explosion on Caracas’ Justice Palace that were meant to be carried by groups that he called “terrorists” trained in Colombian territory and commanded by Venezuelan opposition politician Julio Borges.

Foreign Intervention Still Alive: OAS Council Approves Human Rights Resolution On Venezuela

With 21 votes in favor, the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) approved on Wednesday a resolution on the situation of human rights in Venezuela. The resolution calls for strengthening cooperation between the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner (UN) to “monitor the situation” in Venezuela. “It also requires that an “independent, thorough and credible” investigation be undertaken to prosecute those responsible for human rights violations in the country.

Southcom’s Faller Again – US Navy Is Ready To Be Deployed In Venezuela

The head of the Southern Command said that the US Navy will implement the political decisions that are necessary to further encircle President Maduro. Meanwhile the regular Chavista population in Venezuela made fun of this new threat from the US commander that only this year has made at least 3 other similar statements. “We are getting bored here, let’s have them come and we will receive them with roses”, was the saying among Chavistas in Caracas yesterday.
