Disabled Southerners Are Building New Paths To Grassroots Power

Alongside some of this moment’s biggest grassroots struggles — mass movements to transform American policing, labor, health care and voting rights — the fight against ableism has been a constant undercurrent. During the late 20th century, the disability rights movement emerged in tandem with the long civil rights movement, leading to major reforms at the federal level. In 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA, formally banned discrimination against disabled people in employment, public services and commerce — a watershed moment for anti-ableism work.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 21: Gaza Health Ministry Lists Martyrs’ Names

The Ministry of Health in Gaza released on Thursday evening a list of 6,747 Palestinians confirmed killed since Israel began carpet bombing the blockaded enclave on October 7. The list, which includes names, ages, gender, and ID numbers for each casualty identified as of the afternoon of October 26, does not include people still trapped under rubble, those who were buried directly without being brought to hospitals, and those whose details had yet to be confirmed and processed by health officials – meaning that hundreds have yet to be officially identified, according to the ministry’s own estimates.

Full-Dress Irrationality

Whenever Joe Biden speaks, you have to make sure your bullshit detector is switched on, to borrow Hemingway’s pungent phrase. As is well-documented, our president has spent his public life making it up as he goes along. No surprise, there was a lot of boilerplate junk in the two much-noted speeches Biden gave last week, one in Tel Aviv after attending a session of Israel’s war cabinet, the other when he dropped it on the American public that they were about to spend a lot more money financing Israeli violence, war in Ukraine and provocation across the Taiwan Strait.  We had better listen carefully this time.

Assange’s Freedom May Be Pivotal In Australia’s Support For US

The stakes are high as Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrives in Washington, D.C., today to meet with President Joe Biden. The U.S. government hopes to obtain Australia’s support for its cold war initiatives against China. Australia is one of the United States’ closest allies. Australia, the U.S. and the U.K. comprise “AUKUS,” a trilateral “security” alliance in the Indo-Pacific. This is a crucial issue for Australia as well. Before Albanese left for the United States, he told parliament that the AUKUS transfer of U.S. and British nuclear submarine technology to Australia was critical to the future of the alliance.

Rights Lawyers Release Legal Analysis Of US Complicity In Israel’s Genocide

On the heels of President Biden’s visit to Israel and as the Palestinian death toll in Gaza passes 3,300, expert attorneys from the U.S.-based Center for Constitutional Rights released a legal and factual analysis of Israel’s unfolding crime of genocide against the Palestinian people and U.S. complicity in this grave international law violation. The emergency briefing paper comes soon after the U.S veto of a United Nations Security Council resolution condemning both Hamas’s attack on Israel and all violence against civilians and calling for humanitarian access to Gaza. It also comes as President Biden seeks to secure additional, unconditional military support for Israel.

Biden Gets Zelensky Treatment In Middle East As Israel Tries To Escalate

The US, in a continued demonstration of the degree of enbubblement of what passes for its leadership, seems to believe it still has the force and soft power to be able to bully talk its way out of its geopolitical messes. Yet this week we have stunning examples of how critical players in the rest to the world no longer buy what the US is selling. The gap between the American establishment’s connection to reality and facts on the ground has opened up to a yawning chasm as the Arab world, aa Jordan cancelled a Biden summit with its king Abduallah II plus PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in response to Israel’s shelling of Al-Ahli Arab hospital.

‘Mutiny Brewing’ Inside State Department Over Israel-Palestine

Morale is low, and some staffers are preparing to formally express their opposition to President Joe Biden's approach, officials told HuffPost.

Jewish-Led White House Protest Against Israeli War On Gaza

Dozens of Jewish Americans and allies were arrested Monday outside the White House in Washington, D.C. as thousands of protesters urged the Biden administration to press for an end to Israel's massive bombardment of Gaza—which, after just 10 days has already killed more Palestinians than any previous Israeli war on the besieged coastal enclave. Event organizers said more than 50 people were arrested by Capitol Police and uniformed Secret Service agents after blocking multiple entrances to the White House during a demonstration organized by the Jewish-led peace groups IfNotNow and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP).

US Opposes Peace As Israel Ethnically Cleanses Palestinians

The Israeli government is in the process of ethnically cleansing more than 1 million Palestinians, pushing them out of their homes in Gaza. According to senior Israeli officials, the plan of the far-right Benjamin Netanyahu government is to force Palestinians into the desert of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, where they will live in so-called “tent cities”. At the same time, Israel is brutally bombing the besieged Gaza strip – one of the most densely populated areas on Earth. There are even reports that Israel has attacked convoys of Palestinian civilians who were abiding by its evacuation order and fleeing from the north to the south of the 40-kilometer strip. Meanwhile, the United States has adamantly refused to support calls for peace.

Biden’s Rhetoric Is Reigniting The Question Of Palestine

On the morning of Saturday, October 7, Israel’s military and intelligence brass were shocked by the breakdown of its southern division and defensive line in Gaza. Fearing this would escalate into a wider multi-front campaign involving Lebanon, among other possible geographies, they turned to the United States for support. President Biden readily extended military, intelligence, and logistical support to Israel. He was also happy to move NATO assets to the region to ensure that Iran and its allies remain deterred from interfering in the ensuing battle in the Gaza Strip. A policy that remains shaky at best. The U.S. appeared resolute in pursuing a diplomatic and military strategy aimed at undermining Hamas and disconnecting it from its extensive international and regional ties.

Israel Tells 1.1 Million Gazans To Evacuate In Under 24 Hours

On the seventh day of its war in the besieged Gaza Strip, Israeli occupation forces ordered over 1.1 million Palestinians in the northern parts of the territory to evacuate their homes and move to the south in the next few hours on Friday, October 13. Israel claimed it may launch a ground offensive to clear Hamas operatives who are allegedly hiding in the territory, AP reported. The Israeli ultimatum includes the UN staff and all the shelters run by them for the Gazans who were displaced in Israeli bombings in the last seven days. The order has raised the fear of a looming ethnic cleansing of Gaza and expulsion of over a million Palestinians from their homes.

Gaza: Power Plant Shut Down; Over 1,055 Reported Dead From Airstrikes

The Israeli occupation forces targeted over 150 locations across Gaza on Wednesday, October 11, the fifth day of their assault inside the besieged Palestinian territory. According to the latest numbers from local media and the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over 1,055 Palestinians have been killed so far including over 250 children. Over 5,000 have also been injured. Israel is also reportedly preparing for a ground offensive on Gaza and has amassed at least 100,000 soldiers and reserves on the border. Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation inside Gaza is deteriorating fast.

Biden Backs Out On Campaign Promise, Set To Expand US-Mexico Border Wall

On Thursday, October 5, the Biden administration announced that it would be expanding the South Texas border wall in order to deter migrants crossing into the United States from Mexico. In a sweeping move of executive power, Biden waived 26 federal laws—including the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and the American Indian Religious Freedom Act—to facilitate the construction of 20 additional miles of the border wall in the Rio Grande Valley, an area which has seen 245,000 “illegal” crossings in the current fiscal year, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Impeachment: ‘Cognitive Warfare’ On Capitol Hill

After a single day’s introductory hearings in the U.S. House of Representatives, it is already evident that the Oversight Committee’s inquiry into President Joe Biden’s potentially criminal involvement in his family’s foreign business dealings will be much more than a formal, constitutionally-mandated legal proceeding. Viewed in the broadest terms, this is likely to prove a test of the troubled republic’s relationship with reality. If the hearings to come conclude with a finding that the forty-sixth president is guilty of impeachable crimes, as now appears likely, they will confront Americans with an insidious, many-sided effort to subvert their public institutions and the national discourse altogether in the name of a liberal authoritarian ideology.

Biden’s Visa Waiver: A Gift To Netanyahu’s Apartheid Regime

The Biden administration just handed the racist war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu another personal political victory in the way of the visa waiver program. As people speculate whether or not relations between the apartheid state and the United States are strained and whether or not Biden and Netanyahu will meet in the White House, Biden just handed Netanyahu another priceless gift. The Visa Waiver is almost as big a political gift to Netanyahu as was the Trump announcement recognizing the occupation of the city of Jerusalem by the apartheid state as the legitimate capital of Israel. It is as though the Republicans and the Democrats are competing with each other as to who will be a better, stronger enabler of crimes against the Palestinian people.
