The West Would Rather Burn The Planet Than Let China Shine

October 1 marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Since its founding, China has made remarkable accomplishments in public health by addressing opium addiction, in the elimination of poverty and in the building of an eco-socialist society. Clearing the FOG speaks with K J Noh, an activist, author and political analyst specializing in Asia. Noh recently wrote "Your Mind Is A Battlefield: Decolonize It To Prevent Global Catastrophe!," which was published in Popular Resistance. Noh describes the Chinese approach of designing policies that benefit everyone, why the West, especially the United States, views China as a threat rather than a partner, and what people in the US can do to counter anti-China propaganda and prevent a global war with China.

A Message To The Western Left

Starting to write this, the first question that I ask myself is, who am I addressing? While the divisions among the left in general are notorious anywhere in the world, they are at another level when it comes to the so-called West, which is ironic given the almost non-existent success of the left in that part of the world. Nevertheless, taking into consideration the current dominant iterations, I suppose that the left in the West includes anything from liberalism to anarchism to Trotskyism to what is called Maoism – everything except solidarity – real solidarity without footnotes or parenthesis – with the anti-imperialist struggles in the “uncivilised” and “politically incorrect” rest of the world, whatever form such struggle may assume.

The Washington Post’s Witch Hunt On Chinese Americans

In the September 6, 2024 piece, the Post alleges that during the 2023 APEC summit in San Francisco, Chinese American community groups and leaders welcoming Chinese President Xi Jinping, reputedly under the direction of the Communist Party of China (CPC), violently attacked anti-China groups who turned out to protest Xi”s visit. A recent Washington Post article ran under the headline “How China extended its repression into an American city.” This, the Post states, was all part of a Chinese governmental shadowy plot of transnational repression, directing those within “diaspora groups” to quash dissident anti-China voices overseas. But the exact opposite is true.

A Walk Along The Baiyangdian Lake In The Xiong’An New Area

Seventy-five years ago, on 1 October 1949, Mao Zedong (1893–1976) announced the creation of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). It is important to note that the Communist Party of China (CPC) did not name the new state the Socialist Republic, but instead called it the People’s Republic. That is because Mao and the CPC did not foresee China being immediately ushered into socialism; rather, the country was embarking on the road to socialism, a process that would likely take decades, if not a century. That was very clear to the people who began to shape the new state and society. The People’s Republic would have to be built out of the embers of a very long war, one that began when the Japanese invaded northern China in 1931 and that lasted for the next 14 years and took the lives of over 35 million people.

Your Mind Is A Battlefield: Decolonize It To Prevent Global Catastrophe!

It's a great honor for me to join you in this extraordinary, historical moment of celebration and reflection on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the PRC. As has been said, we are seeing changes unseen in a century.  Changes both great and terrible. We are currently seeing the unravelling of Empire--and its last desperate, violent, hideous death rattle. We are seeing the unmasking of 500 years of western "civilization", and the laying bare of its hypocrisy and unspeakable brutality. We are seeing the true face of capitalist imperialism, not its made up public relations face, but its resting bastard face. It's not pretty. One of the precipitating factors of the end of Empire--not the only one, but a very important one, because it allows countries to resist hegemony together--is the rise of China.

NATO Is Desperate On Russia, And Delusional On China

The world is poised at a critical juncture. It appears as if, notwithstanding the most strenuous efforts of the West, of the US, of NATO, and of the most mystifyingly suicidal governments that hold sway over the capitals of Western Europe, history is being made by those who resist them. The Palestinian people and the Russian Federation are presenting these forces with fait accomplis. There is increasingly talk in the normally slavishly militarist Western media about the need for peace in both Ukraine and Gaza, a negotiated peace based on talking with the very enemies, Palestine and Iran and Russia, that they have been assiduously demonizing for the past year, in the case of Gaza, and for the past two years or past decade, if not longer, in the case of Russia. In this context, the victory plan that President Zelensky seeks to lay before the President and Congress in Washington can only appear absurd.

How Australia Helps The United States Destabilize Asia

September 15 marked the third anniversary of the announcement of the AUKUS (Australia, the UK, the US) agreement. The purpose of this agreement is for Australia to buy nuclear-powered submarines from the UK and the US This increases interoperability with US forces that are projecting their power in the region along the Chinese coast. Furthermore, Australia is participating in the QUAD and SQUAD, “[i]nformal Alliances in the Indo-Pacific.” The city of Darwin in northern Australia has been opened up for the US forces, including planes carrying nuclear weapons. In addition, Australia has long housed bases for US spy satellite systems.

African Nations Push For Urgent United Nations Reforms

In the ongoing 79th session of the UN General Assembly, heads of state from African countries reiterated their demand for an urgent reform in global decision making and greater representation of their continent in the Security Council. The African leaders claim that their current exclusion from the crucial decision making institutions is a legacy of colonialism and demanded urgent changes. They underlined that highlighting their exclusion is not merely an attempt to claim representation but to gain real say in crucial decision making on issues directly affecting the African countries and their future, such as peace and security challenges, conflict resolution, climate change, and sustainable development.

President Maduro Orders Checks Of All Army Communication Devices

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has asked the Bolivarian National Armed Forces to proceed with plans to review all communications and cyber equipment owned by the national military and security institution, in order to prevent such equipment from being used to attack the country. During his participation in the 19th anniversary commemoration of the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (CEOFANB) this Thursday, September 26, President Maduro explained that this decision was made after the Israeli settler state recently hacked communication devices such as cell phones or pagers to carry out terrorist attacks in Lebanon, killing dozens and injuring thousands.

Southern Command Launches Attack On China And Russia In Latin America

Laura Richardson, leader of the U.S. military’s Southern Command, recently called for the development of a new “Marshall Plan”, aimed at Latin America to counter the growing influence of Russia and China in the region. During the annual security forum of the Aspen Institute, a platform that has become one of the most reactionary and belligerent spaces in the post-World War II geopolitical landscape, she said: “I firmly believe that we need a Marshall Plan for the region”. Her appeal is consistent with the ideological coordinates that have characterized the forum for decades. Richardson’s call reflects the deep concern of the United States over the undeniable loss of geopolitical and economic influence in Latin America.

Ajamu Baraka On Global Conflicts And Social Transformation

In addition to risking a nuclear war with Russia, the United States is stoking greater conflicts in West Asia and China. Ajamu Baraka speaks with Clearing the FOG about his recent tour in Iran where he spoke to a cross-section of people about their concerns and the need for greater international solidarity. Baraka also discusses the responsibility of people, particularly in the collective West, to organize in order to change course away from militarism. He provides an analysis of the upcoming presidential election, the verdict in the case of the Uhuru 3 and why people must avoid aligning themselves with the ruling class, which will stop at nothing to hang onto power.

Spring Flowers Turn Into Fruits In The Fall

Amid the stench of death, aggression, murder, and the extermination of an ancient, noble, and civilized people and the international impotence and hypocrisy that have become a catastrophe for humanity at large, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation commenced in Beijing between September 4 and 6, with the participation of over fifty African countries and a comprehensive, serious, and profound agenda that touches upon the wisdom and heritage of the ancients. The forum draws upon the spirit of friendship and constructive cooperation to build on these foundations, adding the fruits of human intellect to envision a future based on shared interests, mutual respect, and the pursuit of benefit for all.

Cold War II: US Congress Passes 25 Anti-China Laws In One Week

The US House of Representatives approved 25 anti-China laws in just one week in September: a clear sign that Washington’s new cold war is quickly heating up. The hawkish House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party proudly described these days as “China Week”, boasting that much of the legislation had “overwhelming bipartisan” support. NBC News noted that “many of the measures passed with bipartisan support at a time when viewing [China] primarily as a geopolitical rival is one of the few issues both Republicans and Democrats can agree on”. Cold War Two fervor is reaching fever pitch in the United States. CIA Director William Burns has referred to China as the “bigge[st] long-term threat”. The last two US secretaries of state, Democrat Antony Blinken and Republican Mike Pompeo, gave speeches specifically dedicated to demonizing China.

BRICS Plus, FOCAC And The Battle For The Global South

A media conference was held in Russia during the weekend of September 14-15 as a precursor to the upcoming Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa Plus Summit to be held in October. This gathering of journalists, editors, publishers and other media workers represented efforts to create a narrative that provides an alternative to the news reports and analyses that dominate western media outlets and their surrogates in the Global South. The media conference was hosted by the Russian state news agency, TASS, which on September 1, celebrated its 120th anniversary. TASS and many of the other media agencies visiting Russia for the conference are presenting different views on world events than what is routinely highlighted by the corporate and governmental networks in the United States, Britain and the European Union (EU).

US Navy Chief Unveils Plan To Be Ready For War With China By 2027

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the highest ranking officer in the US Navy, unveiled a plan on Wednesday to be ready for a war with China by 2027 as the US military is preparing for a direct fight with Beijing despite the risk of nuclear war. The plan lays out goals to be reached by 2027, including making 80% of the naval force ready for combat deployments on short notice. Franchetti told The Associated Press she wants to increase combat readiness so “if the nation calls us, we can push the ‘go’ button, and we can surge our forces to be able to meet the call.” Other goals include increasing recruitment, improving Navy infrastructure, removing delays in ship maintenance, and increasing the use of drones and other autonomous systems.
