Recent Settler Violence In The West Bank, Explained

Violent Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank have skyrocketed ever since October 7. Before that, 2022 and 2023 were already setting record highs in settler violence, but the nature of settler attacks today is on an entirely different level. Settlers are now expelling entire Palestinian communities from their villages for the first time in decades. According to the UN, Israeli settlers expelled about 1,200 Palestinians from some 25 rural communities across the West Bank, including seven communities that have been completely depopulated.

War On Gaza: ICJ Allows Nicaragua Case Against Germany To Proceed

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has rejected a German request to throw out the Nicaraguan case accusing it of facilitating Israel's genocide in Gaza, allowing the case to proceed. Presiding Judge Nawaf Salam, who delivered the world court’s decision on Tuesday, said that the ICJ remains “deeply concerned about the catastrophic living conditions of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip”. However, the court ruled by 15 to one against issuing any emergency measures against Germany over its arms exports to Israel, arguing that the current circumstances did not require them.

Earlier this month, the three of us, along with dozens of our co-workers, took part in a coordinated set of civil resistance actions at Google offices around the United States. Some workers occupied Google’s New York offices. Others occupied the Sunnyvale, California, office of Thomas Kurian, the CEO of Google Cloud. This protest was an escalation of the ongoing No Tech for Apartheid(NOTA) campaign, which has been demanding for years that Google and Amazon cancel Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion deal that Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services signed with the Israeli military and government in 2021.

“There is only one solution, intifada revolution!” “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” and “Gaza children, don’t you cry! The students here are at your side!” and “Whose streets? Our streets! Whose campus? Our campus!” We chant. Another encampment for Palestine has started. This one’s at Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus where I’m an adjunct teacher. We marched across campus and took the streets. I was chanting next to one of my students, when we saw each other we were both grinning ear to ear.

University Of Utah Joins Gaza Solidarity Encampment Wave

Salt Lake City, UT — Students at the University of Utah joined the wave of campus protests demanding that their school, which has close ties with weapons manufacturers, divest from Israel and condemn the genocide in Gaza. Under the gaze of a multi-agency police response, over 300 protesters and students joined by faculty rallied at the admin building, marched to Presidents’ Circle and started an occupation by setting up tents. “Netanyahu, you cant hide, we charge you with genocide!” chanted the anti-genocide students. The students declared the university renamed as the People’s University.

Hundreds March In Philadelphia To Free Mumia Abu-Jamal

Hundreds of people marched through the streets of Philadelphia on April 24 to demand freedom for Mumia Abu-Jamal. That day the world-renowned political prisoner turned 70 years old. Mumia Abu-Jamal has spent over 42 years in prison, including 29 years on death row, for a crime he didn’t commit. He was framed for the 1981 killing of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner. People gathered on the south side of Philadelphia’s City Hall in front of the statue of Octavius Catto. The Black educator and freedom fighter was assassinated by a racist in 1871 when Catto was 32 years old.

With the treaty text set to be finalized at the World Health Assembly at the end of May, uncertainties persist regarding the current state of negotiations, marked by numerous unresolved issues. The main question remains: will the Treaty genuinely fulfill its promise of equity and justice, or will it merely pay lip service to these ideals? Tribal Groups Want Full Ninth Circuit Court To Rehear Oak Flat Appeal

An Apache nonprofit is asking the Ninth Circuit's entire 29-judge panel to review its lawsuit that seeks to block a copper mining company from destroying a sacred Indigenous religious site, arguing that an en banc hearing is warranted given the appellate court's latest split decision on the land transfer. In a 268-page petition for a special en banc rehearing, the Apache Stronghold on Monday argued that Ninth Circuit panels have now twice tried to define "substantial burden" in the case's context, and, given the vast power it holds over the lives of Native Americans, unique circumstances warrant a full-court review.

London Luton Airport Hit With Greenwashing Complaint

Eight climate groups have asked the UK advertising watchdog to assess whether environmental claims in recent Luton Airport ads are misleading the public. In the complaint, filed with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in April, Ad Free Cities, Badvertising, Stay Grounded and other organizations contend that the adverts omit key information regarding the airport’s significant environmental harms. The ads state that the proposed expansion of Luton Airport would be “stopped in its tracks” if it misses its “environmental limits”.

From April 18 to 20, more than 500 activists from around the world gathered in Caracas, Venezuela for the "World Gathering for a Social Alternative." The meeting was convened by the Simon Bolivar Institute and the ALBA Movement, and it was followed by an ALBA-TCP leaders summit, which included the ten ALBA countries and Honduras. Clearing the FOG speaks with Carlos Ron, president of the Simon Bolivar Institute, about the urgency of the gathering, what will come out of it and the next steps. Ron shared the progress Venezuela has made under the Bolivarian Revolution, the retaliation against Venezuela primarily by the United States and the importance of connecting social movements to confront the many global crises of this era.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 206: No Plan To Ensure Civilian Safety

The Gaza-based Palestinian health ministry announced that the remaining hospitals in the Gaza Strip received 183 Palestinians who were killed in Israeli strikes since Monday, while 350 others were wounded. Meanwhile, local media sources reported that Israeli forces conducted air strikes and artillery shellings across the strip over the week, including of family homes, residential neighborhoods, and the vicinity of a school used as a refuge by displaced families in Gaza City. On Monday, Israeli media outlets reported that at least three Israeli soldiers were killed and 11 were wounded in combat against Palestinian resistance groups in central Gaza.
