The Empire Finds An African Enemy: African Stream In The Crosshairs

On Friday, September 13, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken addressed a press briefing in Washington DC, as he has done many times before. The purpose of the briefing was to announce new measures to counter “Russian propaganda,” a pronouncement that was not out of the ordinary. The US has placed nearly 6,000 sanctions on Russia over the years, making a press briefing to announce the State Department’s latest Russian sanctions a normal and prosaic event. That is, until Blinken got to the main point of his briefing: Last week, our government revealed how RT launders information operations through unwitting Americans to covertly disseminate Kremlin-produced content and messaging to the American public. Today, we’re exposing how Russia deploys similar tactics around the world.

Who’s Really The ‘Crazy’ In The Room In This Election

I recently received a comment to the post of my article ‘The 2nd First Presidential Debate’ that criticized me for leaning in favor of Trump, of even being a ‘closet Trumpist’. The comment went on to repeat ad nauseum the typical Democrat party election ‘talking points’ that pretty much just say ‘don’t vote for Trump because he’s crazy, a moral degenerate, etc.’ In other words, commentary that reflects a personalization and demonization of the issues and a failure to consider that much more may be at stake in this election besides personality traits. The commentator reflects the intense, fear mongering Democrat party messaging underway that so many Liberals in the Democrat camp regurgitate nowadays.

Southern Command Launches Attack On China And Russia In Latin America

Laura Richardson, leader of the U.S. military’s Southern Command, recently called for the development of a new “Marshall Plan”, aimed at Latin America to counter the growing influence of Russia and China in the region. During the annual security forum of the Aspen Institute, a platform that has become one of the most reactionary and belligerent spaces in the post-World War II geopolitical landscape, she said: “I firmly believe that we need a Marshall Plan for the region”. Her appeal is consistent with the ideological coordinates that have characterized the forum for decades. Richardson’s call reflects the deep concern of the United States over the undeniable loss of geopolitical and economic influence in Latin America.

Earth Is Close To Passing Seven Of Nine Planetary Boundaries

Scientists have found that Earth may soon pass another planetary boundary, meaning it could be operating outside of the safe limits for seven of the nine defined planetary boundaries. The Planetary Health Check report, prepared by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), is a new assessment that determines the state of the planetary boundaries. For its first edition, the report found that Earth is near the boundary for ocean acidification. “Our updated diagnosis shows that vital organs of the Earth system are weakening, leading to a loss of resilience and rising risks of crossing tipping points,” said Levke Caesar, scientist at PIK and a lead author of the report.

Arab States Warn Israel ‘Pushing For All-Out War’

Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq warned in a joint statement on 25 September that Israel is “pushing” the region into a state of all-out war. The joint statement was made on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York. “Israel is pushing the region into a comprehensive war,” the foreign ministers of the three Arab states said, condemning the ongoing Israeli attacks across Lebanon and calling on “the international community and the Security Council to assume their relevant responsibilities to stop the war.” Stopping this “dangerous escalation underway in the region” must begin “by halting Israel’s aggression in Gaza,” they added.

Israel’s Tally Of War Crimes In Lebanon Increases

Israel escalated attacks against Lebanon on September 23, marking the deadliest day of Israeli bombings in that country since 2006. Israel’s strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, as well as the capital city of Beirut, left a death toll of at least 274, including women, children and paramedics. The Israeli military targeted “medical centres, ambulances and cars of people trying to flee,” according to Al Jazeera, which cited Lebanon’s Health Minister Firass Abiad as the source for the information. Israel also targeted civilian homes, which it claimed were housing Hezbollah weapons. This latest targeting of Lebanese civilians comes on the heels of Israel’s detonation of hand-held electronic devices in civilian areas of Lebanon on September 17 and 18, when Israeli forces remotely triggered multiple explosions of electronic pagers and walkie-talkies that killed at least 37 people, including a 9-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, and maimed or injured 3,250 people, 200 critically.

Israel Deliberately Blocked Humanitarian Aid To Gaza

The U.S. government’s two foremost authorities on humanitarian assistance concluded this spring that Israel had deliberately blocked deliveries of food and medicine into Gaza. The U.S. Agency for International Development delivered its assessment to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the State Department’s refugees bureau made its stance known to top diplomats in late April. Their conclusion was explosive because U.S. law requires the government to cut off weapons shipments to countries that prevent the delivery of U.S.-backed humanitarian aid. Israel has been largely dependent on American bombs and other weapons in Gaza since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks.

Zionist Organizations’ Latest Strategy To Criminalize Palestine Advocacy

Universities welcomed their students back this fall with a set of policies designed to silence pro-Palestine speech and preemptively criminalize protest. Fortified by strategies from the security industry, they provide an administrative alibi for further militarizing campuses. Yet there’s another, more insidious move at play, one belied by the fact that some universities house these new repressive policies under the guise “free speech” and student’s rights. Across the county, universities are employing the right-wing tactic of weaponizing rights to quash dissent. In the process, we are seeing how the pretense of civil rights mobilizes a machinery of repression aimed to eradicate the movement for Palestinian liberation.

Missouri Decided To Execute An Innocent Man

Marcellus Williams has maintained his innocence since the murder of Felicia Gayle in 1998. He was convicted of this crime without evidence, with the case against him resting upon two unreliable witnesses. Recently, DNA testing has confirmed that Williams’ DNA was nowhere to be found at the crime scene. Yet at 6 pm today, the State of Missouri is set to execute Williams for a crime that he did not commit. In January of 2024, prosecuting attorney for St. Louis County Wesley Bell asked to vacate Marcellus Williams’ murder conviction based on “clear and convincing evidence” of Williams’ innocence. As stated in Bell’s motion to vacate, “DNA evidence supporting a conclusion that Mr. Williams was not the individual who stabbed Ms. Gayle has never been considered by a court.”

US Imposes Another Year Of Blockade On Cuba

In September, and for the fourth consecutive year, U.S. President Joe Biden renewed U.S. sanctions on Cuba under the Trading with the Enemy Act (TWEA), an archaic 1917 law designed to cut off trade with Germany during World War I and a significant pillar of the blockade. The announcement means that the economic blockade, a policy upheld by both Republican and Democratic administrations for over six decades, will remain imposed on the island through 2025, despite Cuba’s urgent calls for it to end. Let’s not forget that it was Biden, the democrat who while campaigning for president, said he would improve relations with us.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 353: Israel Bombs Lebanon

At least 274 Lebanese have been killed and 1,024 have been wounded by Israeli airstrikes, the Lebanese Health Ministry said on Monday as Israeli bombings continue on dozens of Lebanese towns in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley in the eastern part of the country. On Monday morning, the Israeli army announced that it was going to engage in a “difficult day of fighting” in Lebanon, as its spokesperson claimed that Hezbollah was storing missiles in homes and civilian areas. The spokesperson illustrated a digital drawing made by the army as “proof” of his claims, calling upon Lebanese citizens — in Hebrew — to move away from sites tied to Hezbollah.

Israel Opened A New Front In Lebanon On A War It Cannot End

Last week, Israel’s series of indiscriminate attacks on Lebanon, including the blowing up of communication devices, and air strikes on Beirut’s suburb of Dahiyeh, dealt a heavy blow to Hezbollah. In addition to the high casualty rates among civilians, the attacks killed dozens of Hezbollah fighters, including top commanders of the elite Radwan unit. On Monday, Israel escalated its attacks by launching heavy bombardment of south Lebanon and the Bekaa valley killing and injuring over 1000 civilians in a few hours. The ability of Israel to infiltrate Hezbollah’s communications network and eliminate top military leaders cast serious doubts on the armed resistance’s capacity to operate efficiently on the battlefield. Intelligence failures can be deadlier than field losses for the overall conduct of the war.

Netanyahu Plays Chicken

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is desperate to keep war simmering along and to draw the U.S. closer and closer to him. At the same time he cannot send ground forces into South Lebanon where they will take massive casualties. Israel can assassinate, it can employ indiscriminate terrorism and it can bombard from the air, and it has done all these things against Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Iran. But Israel cannot destroy Hamas or Hezbollah, cannot get back its hostages from Gaza and cannot make Northern Israel safe for its colonialists. Nothing Israel is doing in any way advances those declared objectives and in fact makes all of them increasingly unlikely ever to be attained.

New York Times Repeats Government’s Evidence-Free Claim That Gaza Protests Are Part Of Iranian Plot

On September 4, the New York Times did something it has a long and sordid history of doing: laundering extremely loaded and consequential “U.S. intelligence” claims without providing an ounce of skepticism — or evidence. The report, headlined “Iran Emerges as a Top Disinformation Threat in U.S. Presidential Race,” begins with fairly boilerplate hand wringing about foreign influence operations, followed by authors Steven Lee Myers,Tiffany Hsu and Farnaz Fassihi casually tossing out a government claim that, by implication, has the effect of smearing hundreds of thousands of student protesters

Student Faces Deportation After Suspension for Pro-Palestine Protest

Cornell University has become the first university to suspend a student for pro-Palestinian organizing this semester. The suspension came in response to a student-led protest organized by the Coalition for Mutual Liberation (CML), which shut down a career fair at the Statler Hotel attended by defense contractors Boeing and L3 Harris last week. The protest, according to the CML, was part of a broader effort to oppose Cornell’s complicity in military and defense industries that profit from violence, specifically in the occupied Palestinian territories. The suspended student is PhD candidate Momodou Taal, who has been a prominent advocate for Palestinian liberation during his time at Cornell.
