Attempts At Sabotage Of Flotilla Ship ‘Handala’ Hours before Sailing To Gaza

Mere hours before the Gaza flotilla ship Handala was to sail with 21 participants on board, in the Italian port of Gallipoli, two attempts to sabotage the ship were made. The Freedom Flotilla coalition stated in its Instagram: “Just hours before departure, the ‘Handala’ faced two alarming incidents: a rope wrapped around the propeller and a delivery labeled as water that contained a corrosive chemical, injuring crew members. These may be calculated attempts to harm us and stop our mission. We will not be intimidated. We sail for the children of Gaza—against siege, starvation, and slaughter. We sail to break Israel’s illegal blockade and deliver life-saving aid and hope.

Iran Agrees To Nuclear Talks With European States

Iran has agreed to hold nuclear talks with the UK, France, and Germany, an informed source told the semi-official Tasnim News Agency on 20 July. “Tehran and the European troika have come to an agreement in principle on the resumption of the talks about Iran’s nuclear program, but the timing and location of the negotiations are under debate,” the Iranian source said. “The decision as to which country will be hosting the upcoming talks has not been finalized yet,” the source added. The report goes on to say that “Iran was considering a request from the EU3 about the resumption of talks on the nuclear issue and the removal of sanctions.”

Venezuelans Expose Horrors Experienced In El Salvador Prison

“We drank the water with which we bathed because they did not give us drinking water,” said a Venezuelan migrant who was repatriated after having been illegally imprisoned in a high-security prison in El Salvador since March. on a repatriation plane on Friday, July 18. He returned on one of the two repatriation flights that brought back the 252 migrants to Venezuela on Friday, July 18. They had been deported from the US and imprisoned in the Confinement Center for Terrorism (CECOT) in El Salvador without due process. Their repatriation was finally possible due to intense diplomatic negotiations by Nicolás Maduro administration with the US authorities.

Trump’s War On Iran Killed Any Shot At Dialogue With North Korea

The smoke over Iran may have cleared, but the aftershocks of the U.S. and Israel’s unprovoked attack are still reverberating. In one fell swoop, Washington conclusively demonstrated its total unreliability as a diplomatic partner. The lessons of this moment are being metabolized by heads of state across the world, including on the Korean Peninsula, where Donald Trump’s overtures for renewed dialogue with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) have so far been rebuffed. Trump’s flashy promises that he would revive the diplomatic process with Pyongyang never had much merit.

Cop City Rico Trials Begin In Atlanta, First Case Declared A Mistrial

Atlanta, GA — The first trial in the ‘Cop City’ RICO case began the morning of July 7 in Fulton County Superior Court, with defendant Ayla King returning to court for the first time since January 2024. However, proceedings quickly came to a halt following Judge Kevin Farmer’s declaration of a mistrial and the defense’s decision to appeal the mistrial. King’s case is being heard separately from the other 60 defendants after filing for a speedy trial on Oct. 30, 2023. King is one of 61 people indicted by Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr in August 2023 on Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) charges for their protest against “Cop City.”

Hague Group Confronts Israel Over Gaza

Collective measures to confront Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people have been agreed by 12 nations after an emergency summit of the Hague Group in Bogota, Colombia. A joint statement adopted on Wednesday announced the six measures, which it said were geared to holding Israel to account for its crimes in Palestine and would operate within the states’ domestic legal and legislative frameworks. The 12 countries agreeing are Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Indonesia, Iraq, Libya, Malaysia, Namibia, Nicaragua, Oman, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and South Africa.

Mossad Chief Pushes For US Assistance In Ethnically Cleansing Gaza

David Barnea, the director of Israel's Mossad spy agency, held meetings in Washington this week seeking help from US officials to convince countries to take hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who Israel plans to ethnically cleanse from Gaza, Axios reported on 19 July. According to two sources, the Israeli spy chief told White House envoy Steve Witkoff that Israel has been in talks with Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Libya to accept Palestinians as refugees. While Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims his government's goal of expelling much or all of Gaza's population will be "voluntary" for Palestinians, US and Israeli legal experts say it would constitute ethnic cleansing and a clear war crime.

How The Global Majority Can Free Itself From US Financial Colonialism

Industrial capitalism was revolutionary in its fight to free Europe’s economies and parliaments from the hereditary privileges and vested interests that survived from feudalism. To make their manufactures competitive in world markets, industrialists needed to end the land rent paid to Europe’s landed aristocracies, the economic rents extracted by trade monopolies, and interest paid to bankers who played no role in financing industry. These rentier incomes add to the economy’s price structure, raising the living wage and other business expenses, thus eating into profits.

The Battle Over Zelenski’s Fate Is Still In Balance

An intense information operation has been launched to remove Ukraine's (former) President Vladimir Zelenski from office. Behind it are a cabal of Ukrainian opposition figures in coordination which western media and parts of the Trump administration. The current campaign follows a earlier one which was directed against Zelenski's main advisor and head of the office of the president Andrei Yermak. The once little-known lawyer and B-movie producer — now in the thick of triangular peace diplomacy with the Americans and Russians — is always reverently loyal to his boss. In an interview with POLITICO last year, he referred to him glowingly as the “president of the people.” What else could he say? Yermak has ridden Zelenskyy’s coattails to become the second-most-powerful figure in Ukraine — even a co-equal.

The Militarization And Weaponization Of Media Literacy

During President Donald Trump’s second term, education has remained a central battleground in American politics. Republicans claim that classrooms have become hotbeds of “woke” indoctrination, accusing educators of promoting progressive agendas and tolerating antisemitism. In contrast, Democrats argue that conservatives are systematically defunding and dismantling public and higher education precisely because it teaches values like diversity, equity, and inclusion. While these partisan skirmishes dominate headlines, they obscure a much deeper and more enduring issue that encompasses all of these issues and more: the influence of corporate and military power on public education.

Venezuela Rescues 252 Nationals Detained In CECOT ‘Concentration Camp’

As part of the Return to the Homeland program, two new flights returned 252 Venezuelan nationals to the country on July 18. They had been arbitrarily detained in the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) in El Salvador after being deported from the US by order of President Donald Trump. These actions took place without access to justice or due process. Earlier Friday afternoon, the Venezuelan government announced via a statement the release of Venezuelan migrants abducted by the US regime. This followed a negotiation involving the handover of 10 US nationals prosecuted for crimes against national security and some imprisoned far-right politicians.

20 States Sue Trump Administration For Slashing FEMA Disaster Program

A group of 20 states sued the Trump administration on Wednesday over the shutting down of a multibillion-dollar grant program with the purpose of strengthening natural disaster preparation and mitigation. The lawsuit filed in a Boston federal court contends that the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) unlawfully eliminated its Building Resilient Infrastructures and Communities (BRIC) program, overriding Congress. The states said in the complaint that the shutdown’s impacts have been “devastating,” reported The Hill.

Peace And Development Are Better Than Austerity And War

Reason seems to have been gradually abolished by the language of bombs. As weapons systems get ‘smarter’ and ‘smarter’, the range of diplomatic instruments used by the Global North states becomes blunter and blunter. US and European diplomats have returned to the old colonial habit of speaking loudly and brusquely, lecturing the natives about what they should or should not do while they themselves do whatever they want. If the natives do not agree, then the old colonial rulers simply threaten to cut off their hands or bomb their homes.

Lobby Fumes As US Teachers Drop Zionist Curriculum

National Education Association teachers in support of Palestinian rights are celebrating their breakthrough success at the NEA’s Representative Assembly in Portland this summer. After years of organizing with both one-on-one conversations and state delegation talks, NEA delegates voted to pass a Drop the Anti-Defamation League motion that rejects the ADL as a curriculum and professional development partner. “We are witnessing a sea change in people’s understanding of who the Palestinians are and what colonialism has done to them,“ said Merrie Najimy, former president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) and Founder of MTA Rank and File for Palestine.

Trump’s Concentration Camps Are Not New To The United States

Donald Trump is perhaps unique among modern presidents in his determination to fulfill his very retrograde vision for the United States. He goes beyond the cajoling and arm twisting that other presidents were known for, and dispenses with precedent, the Congress and the law itself in order to realize a key part of his vision, getting as many Global South immigrants out of the U.S. as he possibly can. He was quite serious about enacting a mass deportation policy. Immigrants attempting to follow the law and legalize their status are set upon in courtrooms by masked agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and are taken to detention facilities.
