Hezbollah Chief Says Israel Pushed Resistance To Battle ‘On All Fronts’

The Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, announced on 1 August that the Lebanese resistance is no longer just “a support front” in the fight against Israel and that the response to the assassination of top war commander Fuad Shukr “is a foregone conclusion.” “We are beyond the stage of being a ‘support front’; we are now in an open battle against the Israeli enemy, on all frontiers – we have entered a new stage,” Nasrallah said, stressing that operations during the next several days “are not a response to the martyrdom of Mr Fuad Shukr.” “The enemy and those behind the enemy must await our inevitable response [to Shukr’s killing], no discussion or debate, and between us are the days, nights, and the battlefield,” the resistance leader added.

Israel’s New Assassination Campaign Could Set Middle East Further Aflame

A new assassination campaign aimed at Israel’s opponents has erupted across the Middle East, imperiling already shaky Gaza ceasefire talks and threatening an even greater regional expansion of war. While Israel continues its genocidal attack on desperate Gazans, killing scores, perhaps hundreds just in the last several days, the latest moves were clearly designed to escalate Israel’s war in Gaza and expand the military tensions already simmering on its border with Lebanon, in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and elsewhere into a full-scale war, potentially drawing in both Iran and the United States even more directly.

Venezuela: An Attempted Coup By Any Other Name

Once again, as in 2002, Venezuela has been the victim of a combined media and diplomatic coup attempt, but this time with the added element of organized crime and a cyber-attack. Millions of eligible voters cast their electronic ballots before the presence of more than 635 international witnesses including electoral experts of the United Nations, the African Union, and electoral staff of 65 countries. How many international witnesses are allowed for the USA or Canadian elections? None. Nicolás Maduro was re-elected with 51.2% of votes (5,150,092 votes), and the far-right candidate Edmundo González lost with 44.2% of votes (4,445,978 votes). The other 8 opposition leaders received 4.6% of the total votes cast.

Organization Of American States Interference Against Venezuela Fails

The Organization of American States (OAS) has failed in an interventionist attempt to try to approve a resolution targeting the sovereign presidential elections in Venezuela. The discredited regional body has been plagued by condemnations of mismanagement and ethical qualms in recent years against its secretary, Luis Almagro, as well as by its loss of credibility among regional countries regarding the body’s belligerence in recent regional crises, always protecting Washington interests or claims over regional sovereignty. By failing to obtain the necessary votes and consensus this Wednesday, July 31, the OAS was unable to pass its resolution against the Venezuelan electoral process.

The Grayzone Caused ‘Biggest PR Fiasco In History’ For US Government

The Grayzone’s publication of an embarrassing phone call with a National Endowment for Democracy VP triggered an institution-wide meltdown at the US government’s regime change laboratory. Following the call, the group’s founding president privately admitted the “fiasco” exposed major “problems beneath the polished surface.” Now, leaked emails obtained by The Grayzone reveal the organization has since descended into chaos, with two senior officials fired due to the fiasco, and remaining staff engaged in civil war between the neocon old guard and the “woke” new generation hired to replace them.

Outrage As Senate Panel Advances Manchin-Barrasso Permitting Bill

A bipartisan energy permitting reform bill introduced last week in the U.S. Senate — and described by one campaigner as “the biggest giveaway in decades to the fossil fuel industry” — advanced Wednesday in a key vote that came over the objections of hundreds of green groups. The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee passed the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 in a 15-4 vote. Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) voted against advancing the bill. The bill’s co-sponsors, Sens. Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.) and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), claim the proposal will “strengthen American energy security by accelerating the permitting process for critical energy and mineral projects of all types in the United States.”

GW Pressured Federal Prosecutors To Ban Students From Campus

At The George Washington University’s (GW) request, the U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecutors recently included stay away orders as a condition in the stet agreement for students arrested at the Palestine solidarity encampment on GW’s campus, preventing them from entering the entirety of the Foggy Bottom campus – with Pennsylvania Ave NW, 18th Street NW, E Street NW, Virginia Ave NW, and 24th Street NW delineating the boundaries. Initially, prosecutors formulated the orders to include exceptions for commuting to and from home and work, going to classes, and meeting with faculty. However, immediately before the second round of status hearings for students arrested during the Metropolitan Police Department’s May 8th encampment raid, GW successfully pressured the government to revoke these exemptions.

Suicide Squad

At the end of the last century, hoping to drive the United States from Saudi Arabia, the home of Islam’s holiest sites, al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden sought to draw in the American military. He reportedly wanted to “bring the Americans into a fight on Muslim soil,” provoking savage asymmetric conflicts that would send home a stream of “wooden boxes and coffins” and weaken American resolve. As lethal as those Islamist fighters have been, however, another “enemy” has proven far more deadly for American forces: themselves. A recent Pentagon study found suicide to be the leading cause of death among active-duty U.S. Army personnel.

The Beijing Declaration: How Chinese Diplomacy United Palestinian Groups

Chinese diplomacy has done it again. By hosting a historic signing of a unity agreement between 14 Palestinian political parties in Beijing on July 23, China has, once more, shown its ability to play a global role as a peace broker. For years, China has attempted to play a role in Middle East politics, particularly in the region’s most enduring crisis, the Israeli occupation of Palestine. In 2021, China announced its four-point plan, aimed at “comprehensively, fairly and permanently” resolving the Palestinian question. Whether the plan itself was workable or not, it mattered little, as neither the Israeli government nor the Palestinian Authority were prepared to ditch Washington, which has dominated Middle East diplomacy for decades.

An Attack On Venezuela’s Democracy

A massive cyberattack, a global disinformation campaign and armed gangs are key elements in an attempted coup in Venezuela following presidential elections on July 28. The results of those elections, in which 10 candidates competed, saw President Maduro win 51.2% of the vote against opposition leader Edmundo González’s 44.2%, with 80% of the vote counted. The remaining eight candidates combined for 4.6%, in a vote that has become controversial for all the wrong reasons. González and his far-right allies rejected the results and alleged fraud For months, the Venezuelan government has been denouncing the far-right’s strategy for these elections.

The Time Of The Lima Group Is Over

Following the proclamation by the National Electoral Council of the victory of Nicolás Maduro in the presidential elections, several fronts of conflict have opened within Venezuela. The opposition has refused to recognize the results and has declared that its candidate, Edmundo González, is the legitimate winner of the elections. This scenario was expected given that the opposition had already announced that they would not respect the result if their candidate did not win. The international hegemonic media also started a campaign several months ago to delegitimize the electoral result if Maduro won the elections.

US Won’t Comply With Investigation Into CIA Operation Targeting Assange

The United States government notified a Spanish criminal court that it still will not comply with requests from Spanish investigators, who are trying to uncover details about an espionage operation that targeted WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. As the Spanish newspaper El País reported on July 29, Courtney E. Lee, a trial attorney in the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, claimed that providing information to Spain’s national high court would “interfere” with “ongoing U.S. litigation.” Assange was the target of an unprecedented political prosecution that was globally condemned as a threat to press freedom. The case ended in a plea deal in late June after U.S. prosecutors feared that Assange might win his appeal against extradition.

How Ordinary Israelis Became Mass Murderers

In 1996, Daniel Jonah Goldhagen published a book that proposed to rewrite the history of the Holocaust. Its central point was that the Nazi genocide was chiefly made possible by the existence of a deep form of “demonological antisemitism” that had seeped into German society; Hitler and the Nazi regime weren’t so much agitating against Jews as they were simply giving ordinary Germans the green light to act on their already virulent genocidal attitudes. Without this form of “eliminationist antisemitism,” which according to Goldhagen was essentially a part of the fabric of German society long before the Nazis came to power, the Holocaust would not have been possible.

‘Entire Resistance Axis’ Will Respond To Haniyeh Assassination

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) condemned Israel’s assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh on 31 July, vowing that the Resistance Axis as a whole will respond to the attack. “This crime demonstrated that the criminal, murderous, and terrorist Zionist gang, disregarding international rules and regulations, spares no criminal action to cover up its humiliating defeats in the nine-month war in Gaza, which has resulted in the massacre of tens of thousands of Palestinian women, men, and children,” the IRGC said on Wednesday, hours after Haniyeh’s assassination in Tehran. “Undoubtedly, this crime by the Zionist regime will be met with a severe and painful response from the powerful and grand Resistance Axis, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran … the blessings of the Martyr of Jerusalem Dr Ismail Haniyeh's efforts in defending the cause and rights of the Palestinian nation will help them,” it added.

Venezuelans Re-Elect President Maduro Despite Coup Attempt

Sanctions are a misnomer when it comes to Venezuela. Here, the U.S. isn’t “just” illegally punishing a nation-state to effect regime change by withholding necessary resources and key inputs that cause food shortages, grave illness, death and economic instability. In Venezuela, the United States is also committing racketeer-level crimes against its people for not handing over their sovereignty and oil to Washington’s oligarchy on a silver platter.
