Chris Hedges Report: The Israeli And CIA Sponsored Guatemalan Genocide

Known as the “Silent Holocaust,” the genocide in Guatemala is seldom mentioned in modern history. The United States, with support from Israel, backed yet another violent crusade against an indigenous population as well as against communism. The Guatemalan genocide — preceded by a CIA-instigated coup d’état of the Guatemalen government in 1954 and the ensuing civil war — saw hundreds of thousands of the Mayan Indigenous peoples and alleged communists massacred or disappeared. Jennifer Harbury, an attorney, author and human rights activist, witnessed the horrors of the genocidal campaign waged by the U.S.-backed Guatemalan military. Included in these horrors was the torture and disappearance of her husband, Mayan rebel leader Efraín Bámaca Velásquez (known as Everardo) by CIA-backed Guatemalan military officials.

US Arrests Chinese Scientists In Dangerous Escalation

The US arrested two Chinese researchers on National security-related charges for “smuggling” research materials into the US. But are these researchers really “agro-terrorists” posing a serious threat to US security, or are they the scapegoats in a rising cold war witch hunt against China? Linda Wan of Code Pink, Bob McMurray, and Judge Julie Tang discuss what’s really happening here.

How The World Can Free Itself From US Financial Colonialism

We are all living in a time of great change. There are massive geopolitical shifts happening in the world today, and we see the rise of new organizations like BRICs, which now represents more than 50% of the global population. The 20 countries of the extended BRICS+ now also make up more than 40% of world GDP, when measured at purchasing power parity (PPP). These new Global South-led organizations like BRICS represent the Global Majority. But there’s still a problem, which is that the most powerful international organizations today are largely dominated by the United States and the Western powers. This includes institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or the World Bank. These are organizations where the U.S. is the only country on Earth that has veto power.

Chris Hedges Report: This Is Not A Drill

Fame and fortune are often corrupting forces, ones that beget power and comfort. To stand with the afflicted requires sacrificing this privilege and few embody that sacrifice more profoundly than the legendary musician of Pink Floyd Roger Waters. For years, through his music and political action, Waters has amplified the voices of the oppressed. He has championed WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, defended attorney Steven Donziger, demanded the closure of Guantánamo Bay, has long stood against the apartheid state of Israel and now unwaveringly against the genocide of Palestinians.

Chris Hedges Report: The End Of Academic Freedom

The gutting of public funding for higher education in the United States has led to the takeover of universities by private donors, many of whom are Zionist entities and billionaires. As a result, universities have become, as guest Dr. Maura Finkelstein calls them, “banks and real estate development companies that offer classes.” As demonstrated by Finkelstein’s story, this new paradigm of higher education has pushed aside democratic values and academic freedom. In January 2024, as a result of a McCarthyist-style crackdown on pro-Palestinian faculty, Finkelstein was fired from her position as a tenured associate professor and chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Muhlenberg College.

Chris Hedges Report: Jeffrey Epstein, Donald Trump And Sexual Blackmail Networks

Perhaps the biggest elephant in the room of American politics is the existence of a pedophilic blackmail network that involves some of the most powerful people in the country and the world. Despite efforts to get to the bottom of the Jeffrey Epstein case, which saw the trafficking and sexual exploitation of thousands of children, justice continues to be evaded and the cabal associated with Epstein — President Donald Trump notwithstanding — continues its conspiracy. Nick Bryant is a journalist and author who first published Epstein’s infamous “black book” in 2015 as well as Epstein’s flight logs.

How Israel And The US Are Orchestrating Syria’s Collapse

Southern Syria is once again in turmoil. Recent clashes in the city of Suwayda between Druze militias and Bedouin gangs triggered a swift military response from the Syrian government, and airstrikes by Israel on positions in Damascus. In this episode of State of Play, I’m joined by Ahmad from Propaganda & Co. and MintPress journalist Robert Inlakesh to examine the wider forces behind the violence. Beneath the headlines lies a pattern: outside powers managing chaos to remake Syria in their image. Israel claimed its strikes were defensive, aimed at protecting the Druze population. But according to U.S. intelligence, Syria had informed Israel of its tank movements ahead of time.

Trump’s ICE Raids Target Working-Class Immigrants, Not Criminals

Following Donald Trump’s pledge to detain 3,000 undocumented immigrants per day, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids have surged across the United States. California, home to an estimated 2.8 million undocumented immigrants as of 2023. has emerged as a primary target. Department of Homeland Security official Kristi Noem traveled to Los Angeles for a press conference, declaring the government’s intent to “bring in criminals that have been out on our street far too long.” But data tells a different story. According to ICE datasets analyzed by the Los Angeles Times, during the first 10 days of June, ICE arrested 722 undocumented immigrants in California.

United States Government Is Very Afraid Of BRICS And Dedollarization

Western corporate media coverage of the Global South-led organization BRICS is frequently dismissive and condescending. Bloomberg published an article claiming that BRICS is “little more than a meaningless acronym”. It appears that a lot of this criticism, nevertheless, is actually a coping mechanism, because evidence is piling up showing that the US government is very afraid of the rapid growth of BRICS. Donald Trump, in particular, is terrified of the possibility of BRICS challenging the global dominance of the US dollar. BRICS held a successful summit in Brazil in July, featuring for the first time the participation of 10 members and 10 partner countries. Trump responded with furious denunciation, threatening to hit all BRICS countries with 10% tariffs.

Tiger Teams To Concentration Camps

This week on State of Play, host Greg Stoker is joined by Jalyssa Dugrot, an independent journalist recently arrested while covering anti-ICE protests for MintPress News in Los Angeles, and Robert Inlakesh, a Middle East analyst and MintPress contributor known for his reporting on politics, repression, and empire, to examine a rapidly expanding surveillance regime that connects U.S. immigration enforcement to Israeli military intelligence and private tech firms. In early 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) assembled a covert unit called the “Tiger Team,” a task force supposedly created to address “critical threats.”

Mass Killings, Media Control, And The Machinery Of US Soft Power

KJ Noh, peace activist, journalist and co-host of The China Report on @BreakThroughNews joins us to dismantle the ideological architecture of U.S. empire. He exposes how atrocity becomes infrastructure and propaganda becomes profession. From the Ford Foundation’s role in Indonesia’s Cold War genocide to the rise of figures like Orville Schell and Johnny Harris, KJ unpacks how soft power functions as a weapon: manufacturing consent, laundering imperial violence, and shaping global narratives. He exposes how US think tanks, journalism schools, and digital platforms are not just media ecosystems, but actually, ideological battlegrounds built atop bloodshed.

As Trump Threatens BRICS, It Grows Stronger

The Global South-led organization BRICS has been growing in size and influence, and this has frightened some Western politicians. Donald Trump is particularly rattled. After he returned to the White House for his second term as US president, Trump threatened very high tariffs on BRICS, and falsely said he had destroyed the organization. “BRICS is dead”, Trump claimed in a press conference on 13 February. The US president stated: BRICS was put there for a bad purpose, and most of those people don’t want — they don’t even want to talk about it now; they’re afraid to talk about it. Because I told them, if they want to play games with the dollar, then they’re going to be hit with a 100% tariff, the day they mention that they want to do it. And they will come back and say, “We beg you, we beg you not to do this”.

Everything You Need To Know About War With Iran

Following attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States, the world held its breath as the prospect of World War III loomed on the horizon. After 12 days of conflict, a ceasefire has brought about new uncertainty for the future. Former British diplomat Alastair Crooke joins host Chris Hedges on this episode of The Chris Hedges Report to make sense of the current situation in the Middle East and what can be expected in the coming weeks or months. Crooke details the lead up to the Israeli attacks, including the use of technology and neighbouring countries that allowed for the element of surprise. Cyber attacks, drones flown in from Azerbaijan and American military software served as crucial elements for the Israeli attacks on Iran.

BRICS Expands To 56% Of World Population, 44% Of Global GDP

The Global South-led organization BRICS continues to expand. While the United States and Israel were busy waging war on Iran in June, BRICS quietly announced that Vietnam had accepted the group’s invitation to join as a partner country. With the addition of Vietnam, the extended BRICS+ has 20 members and partners, as of July 2025. The 10 BRICS members are Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. The 10 BRICS partners are Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Greg Stoker On How The US Military Breaks Young Men

On this episode of “The Watchdog,” Lowkey is joined in-studio by special guest Greg Stoker to discuss all things military from an anti-war perspective. He shares his personal experiences in U.S. military intelligence, what being in the Army is really like, and how the U.S. is aiding Israel in its destruction of Gaza. Greg Stoker is a former Army Ranger with a background in special operations and military intelligence. He completed four combat deployments to Afghanistan during the Global War on Terror. After becoming disillusioned with the military and with the U.S. empire, he became an anti-war activist and is one of America’s most vocal critics of the military-industrial complex.
