US Imperialism

Trump Wages Economic War On US Allies; BRICS Builds Alternative System

The US government has always had a very aggressive foreign policy. The United States has intervened in dozens of countries all around the world. But what is unique about Donald Trump is that many of his aggressive policies not only target US adversaries like China, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba, but also longtime US allies. Trump has imposed high tariffs that have hurt the economies of key US allies such as Japan, South Korea, and Europe. In fact, the details of the agreement that Trump imposed on Japan are quite shocking. This was reported on by the Financial Times, which wrote that “Japan confronts the increased price of US friendship”. Although I would say it’s not so much “friendship”; rather it’s vassalage. Japan has been militarily occupied by the US for 80 years, and we’re now seeing the cost of this imperial relationship.

Trump Announces Second Summary Execution Of Venezuelans

US President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform, Truth Social, Monday, a second “kinetic strike” against a stalled small boat allegedly carrying illegal drugs from Venezuela. In the announcement, the US ruler acknowledged the summary execution of three unidentified male Venezuelan civilians. The statement coincided with the release of an extremely blurry video by the US secretary of war. The video shows a stalled boat displaying no signs of violence before being obliterated by an explosion. The video lacked the visual sharpness and information about the date or location necessary for a fair analysis of the incident, similar to the video from a first execution reported on September 2.

Latin America And The Caribbean: Sovereign Zone Or Vassal Region?

It is difficult to overstate the insanity of the ruling elites of the collective West. They have shown themselves incapable of recognizing they can no longer continue to dominate as before the governments of the majority world. For the moment, they continue acting to impose regimes that are easier to manipulate in countries susceptible to destabilization such as, in recent years, Bangladesh and now Nepal. However, in order to overthrow governments or political movements steadfast in defending the sovereignty of their countries, Western governments have had to resort to military aggression supported by regional allies and vassals, as they did successfully most recently in Syria.

The Doha Assassination Plot, Emergency Summit, And Trump’s Double-Cross

Last week’s failed assassination attempt of the Palestinian negotiating team in Doha, Qatar, raises critical questions that extend far beyond the attack itself. The crux of the problem lies in three interconnected issues: the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in targeting individuals, the failure, or deliberate negligence, of the US-led air defense system, and Qatar’s vulnerable position as a host to both a major US base and the ceasefire negotiations. The use of AI will be the topic of a future analysis. Meanwhile, the raid on Qatar did not happen in isolation. The skies over Doha are monitored by the American Air Base in Al Udeid, the largest US military installation in the Middle East. This base is not a marginal outpost; it is the forward headquarters for US Central Command, USCENTCOM, overseeing US military operations throughout the Middle East.

Venezuela Denounces US Navy For Illegal Boarding Of Fishing Boat

Venezuela reported that a US destroyer illegally boarded a Venezuelan fishing boat carrying nine fishermen and detained them for eight hours. According to the Venezuelan statement, issued on Saturday, September 13, the vessel was in Venezuelan waters, “48 nautical miles from Blanquilla Island.” The incident occurred on Friday, September 12, in Venezuela’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Under international law, an EEZ is a maritime area adjacent to a country’s territorial sea, extending up to 200 nautical miles from the baseline. The coastal state has sovereign rights to explore, utilize and preserve natural resources there, and has jurisdiction over economic and research activities in the region.

Washington Projects Its Drug Problem Onto Latin America

A big Cadillac limo with Jersey plates was parked down the block. Few locals in East Harlem even owned cars, let alone new ones. Curious, I asked the street kids what’s up. They casually explained that the mafioso come weekly to collect their drug money. Later I found a playground, which served as a veritable narcotics flea market each night. If a blanquito from the suburbs and some third graders could uncover the illicit trade, I wondered why the officials – who plastered the city with “keep New York drug free” signs – couldn’t do the same. That was in the late 1960s, and I am still wondering why the US – the world’s largest consumer of narcotics, the biggest money launderer of illicit drug money, and the leading weaponry supplier to the cartels – hasn’t resolved these problems.

Somalia Resistance Targets US AFRICOM Base Over Gaza Genocide

The Somalia resistance group Al-Shabaab issued a statement on Sept. 4 claiming responsibility for an attack on U.S. military forces in retaliation for U.S. support for Israel in the ongoing genocidal war in Gaza. The U.S. forces were at a base located near Kismayo Airport in southern Somalia. Blogger Muhammad Od reported in a You Tube video on Sept. 5: “According to a statement by the movement, quoted in the local Baidoa Online website, the operation targeted the ‘American camp’ in response to the war in Gaza, and resulted in ‘heavy losses among U.S. soldiers and the destruction of military vehicles.’” Od noted that in its X account, AFRICOM acknowledged the attack but claimed it was “indirect” with no serious damage.

Trump Forces Europe, Korea, Japan To Subsidize And Move Industry To US

U.S. cold warriors have failed to prevent Russia, China, Iran, and other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) from obtaining their economic independence. That means keeping the fruits of their economic growth for themselves, rather than letting it be drained off by U.S. banks, investors, consumers, and the U.S. Treasury through the monetary dollar standard. Washington’s cold warriors have been unable to stop SCO members from moving forward and becoming independent from U.S. influence. Recognizing that they are unable to prevent this, U.S. policy is focusing now on how to prevent Europe (especially Germany), Japan, and South Korea from becoming industrial rivals and hence threats — while also targeting China and BRICS.

‘Forever Wars’ Authorization Finally Repealed By US House

Almost exactly 24 years after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the U.S. House of Representatives voted this week to finally repeal a pair of more than two-decade-old congressional authorizations that have allowed presidents to carry out military attacks in the Middle East and elsewhere. In a 261-167 vote, with 49 Republicans joining all Democrats, the House passed an amendment to the next military spending bill to rescind the Authorizations for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) passed by Congress in the lead-up to the 1991 Persian Gulf War and 2003 War in Iraq. The decision is a small act of resistance in Congress after what the Quincy Institute’s Adam Weinstein described in Foreign Policy magazine as “years of neglected oversight” by Congress over the “steady expansion of presidential war-making authority.”

Trinidad And Tobago Fishermen Fear Being Targeted By US Empire’s Strikes

The Tobago Fishermen’s Association has expressed deep concern over the “deafening” official silence from Chief Secretary Farley Augustine regarding the recent violent actions of the US empire in the Caribbean Sea. The recent attack on a small boat allegedly carrying drugs has generated fear among coastal communities. Fishermen now worry that future operations could mistake them for criminals, creating an atmosphere of fear and mistrust. They are demanding clear responses and safety guarantees. President of the All Tobago Fisherfolk Association, Curtis Douglas, confirmed this Monday, September 8, that fishermen found debris believed to be from the destroyed boat washed into Trinidadian waters.

The Historical And Contemporary Role Of Neocolonial Caribbean Governments In Supporting US Militarism And Imperialism

The Caribbean region is a clearly militarized zone with the United States at the helm. Today’s militarization in the region is reminiscent of the kinds of earlier iterations, also led by the US, from the 1970s to the early 2000s.[1] The US Trump administration reportedly carried out a missile strike in the Caribbean on September 2nd under the pretense of combatting drug trafficking in the region. Based on video released by the US, the military strike utilized a drone and/or aerial bomb to target a boat that allegedly departed from Venezuela – which the US State Department accuses of being a “narco-trafficking organization” and not a state[2] – and purportedly contained non-specified drugs and 11 unidentified human beings (so-called “narco-traffickers.”)

US Revisits ‘War On Drugs’ Routine With A New Target

Venezuela has once again been in the international media spotlight due to the US naval deployment in the waters of the southern Caribbean Sea. This military deployment was officially announced by the US on August 14, but had been reported days earlier by the New York Times. Under the guise of fighting drug trafficking and in parallel with the announcement of an increased reward for the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, the US regime has relaunched its “maximum pressure” campaign against Venezuela. The “bounty” on President Maduro has been doubled to US $50 million, and this time around, the US claims that the president of Venezuela is the head of the nonexistent Cartel of the Suns, the defunct Tren de Aragua criminal gang, and even Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel.

The Caribbean On A Knife’s Edge: Trump’s Military Buildup Threatens Venezuela

The sun glints off the gray hull of the USS Iwo Jima, a massive amphibious assault ship cutting through the Caribbean Sea. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, a key architect of the Trump administration’s “maximum pressure” policies, stands on deck before a group of sailors and marines. His voice, amplified by the ship’s public address system, is a low, serious rumble that carries across the choppy waters. “What you’re doing right now is NOT training,” he says, in a scene reminiscent of George W. Bush’s staged landing to declare victory in Iraq. “This is a REAL-WORLD EXERCISE on behalf of the vital national interests of the United States of America, to end the POISONING of the American people.”

US Considers Bombing Venezuela; Deploys F-35 Fighter Jets To Puerto Rico

The Trump administration is considering multiple options for launching military strikes against alleged drug cartels in Venezuela, including hitting targets that could weaken Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, as it is deploying F-35 fighter jets to Puerto Rico, CNN has reported. US officials told CNN that the US bombing of a boat near Venezuela last week was just the beginning of a much larger effort against drug trafficking that could lead to the ouster of Maduro. US officials claim the pressure on Venezuela and Maduro is about drug trafficking and a response to overdose deaths in the US, but fentanyl doesn’t come from or through Venezuela, and the majority of the cocaine that is transported to the US comes through the Pacific, not the Caribbean.

US War Department To Shift Focus From China To ‘Threats’ In Latin America

US War Department officials are proposing to shift the US military posture away from a focus on China, instead prioritizing alleged threats in Latin America and the Caribbean, Politico reported on 6 September. A draft of the newest National Defense Strategy places "domestic and regional missions above countering adversaries such as Beijing and Moscow," Politico revealed, citing three people briefed on early versions of the report. The news comes one day after Trump signed an executive order for the Department of Defense to be renamed the “War Department” to better reflect its mission. Politico notes that the move, if implemented, would anger politicians in both the Republican and Democratic parties who have long been hostile to China and called for aggressive policies to counter its rise.
