‘We’re Very Concerned About What The US Is Doing Around Venezuela’

Russia is deeply concerned about what the US is doing around Venezuelan waters, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference on Saturday. “We are certainly very alarmed by what the US has organized now in what are currently international waters, but near Venezuelan territorial waters,” Lavrov said. The foreign minister specified that he spoke with his Venezuelan counterpart, Yván Gil, about the matter the previous day. “The situation is truly serious, because there are significant armed and naval forces there, including a nuclear submarine, and there are direct threats of military intervention to destroy ‘drug cartels’ and wage war on drug trafficking in general,” Lavrov said in reference to the new euphemisms used by the White House to legitimize a military action aiming at regime change in Venezuela.

Gaza Is Not Rwanda: Its Suffering Should Not Perpetuate That Of Congolese

Since the Gaza Genocide began, many people have likened it to the 1994 Rwandan Genocide and likened Gazans’ suffering to that of Rwandan Tutsis in 1994. Those making this comparison now include Navi Pillay, head of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel, which last week concluded, in a 71-page report, that Israel is indeed guilty of genocide. This conclusion is of course a good thing, long overdue, but the comparison is pernicious, no matter how well-intentioned. It perpetuates the narrative that has dominated the African Great Lakes Region for 30 years, allegedly justifying the sacrifice of millions of Congolese lives.

Sweeping ICE Raid Shakes Small New York Town As Dozens ‘Disappeared’

On the morning of September 4, dozens of masked federal agents raided a snack bar factory in the small town of Cato, New York. They claimed there was a “violent felon” in the plant, but proceeded to siphon off and hold anyone who looked Latinx. At least 69 workers were initially detained, with 57 still in custody or deported, though some say that could be an undercount. There are multiple reports of aggression — knees on necks, blows to heads — used during the raid. The workers were mostly from Central America, especially Guatemala. Some had lived in the region for decades. Many are parents. Even those who presented valid working permits were taken. Sources tell Truthout that around a dozen workers have been deported while others linger in detention facilities across the U.S.

China Is Greening The Global South

According to an extensive study by Bloomberg NEF, it requires a staggering $7 trillion a year in renewable investments to achieve net zero by 2050, totaling $175 trillion by 2050. Hmm. Accordingly, in 2024 the world invested a record amount, or roughly $2 trillion, which was $5 trillion short of what is necessary per annum for net zero/2050. That $5 trillion shortfall increases the bogey next year and the years after for every year below $7 trillion, until it’ll take $8 trillion in one year, then $9T, then more. For comparison purposes: The Marshall Plan, or European Recovery Program, cost approximately $13.3 billion between 1948 and 1952. Adjusted for inflation, it would be roughly $130 billion in today’s dollars, looking very peaked next to Net Zero.

Fighting Trump And The Black Collaborators Too

Black Agenda Report has long pointed out that billionaire rule and its capture of the political process has made electoral politics a less and less effective means of meeting the needs of the masses of Black people. Now that Donald Trump has succeeded in exposing the rot in the liberal class that collaborates and capitulates to him and to his administration, it is necessary to also expose the worsening rot in the Black political class.  Donald Trump is vowing to send the National Guard and federal law enforcement to cities like Memphis, Tennessee, even when the cities in question make clear that they want no part of these plans. Trump is working with Tennessee’s republican governor, who approved the National Guard deployment, ostensibly to fight crime, even though Memphis mayor, democrat Paul Young, said he doesn’t want or need them, and therein lie several problems.

Netanyahu Faces His Biggest Challenge Yet In Washington

“This is my most important meeting,” U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday. He was not referring to his long, rambling, and incoherent address to the United Nations, but to the meeting he later held with Arab and Muslim leaders from around the world at which he presented what he is calling his “21-Point Plan” for ending the Israeli onslaught on Gaza. Leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Türkiye, Pakistan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan attended. The idea was to get buy-in from all these countries before Trump meets with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. There is no indication that any meeting with any Palestinian group or leader is part of this process.

UN Declares Genocide In Gaza While 250 US Lawmakers Are In Israel

On the same day the UN released its report, approximately 250 US state legislators, representing all 50 states and both parties, were in Israel for a “50 States, One Israel” conference sponsored by the Israeli government. The Jerusalem Post (9/15/25) characterized it as “the largest-ever delegation of US lawmakers” to Israel. According to ethics disclosures reported in the Boston Herald (9/14/25), Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Alan Silvia’s trip to Israel for the conference cost $6,500. The Herald said Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs would “reimburse, waive or pay for travel expenses, though it was unclear what portion of the costs the government planned to cover.” Quoting Rep. Ilana Rubel (D-Idaho), Boise State Public Radio (9/17/25) reported that no Idaho taxpayer funds were used to send any of five Idaho state legislatures to the conference.

Iran Recalls Envoys From Germany, France And United Kingdom

Iran has recalled its ambassadors from Germany, France, and the UK for consultations, state media reported on 27 September, after the three European states triggered the UN mechanism to reinstate sanctions. The Foreign Ministry said the decision was taken in response to the “irresponsible action” of the European trio in reviving UN Security Council resolutions that had been repealed under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).  The sanctions, scheduled to take effect at midnight, will impose restrictions on Iran’s banking, shipping, arms purchases and nuclear cooperation. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told reporters that Washington and its allies were seeking to topple the Islamic Republic under the guise of the nuclear dispute.

No, The US Doesn’t Need Fossil Fuels To Win ‘An AI Arms Race’

As the U.S. braces for a surge in artificial intelligence (AI)–related electricity demand, the natural gas industry has a message for the public: Fossil fuels must power the future’s data centers, the computer-filled warehouses where AI models like ChatGPT primarily train and deploy.  A range of oil and gas industry groups and industry-friendly nonprofits are making the case that AI’s growing hunger for power requires a robust fossil-energy scale-up, DeSmog has found. This massive deployment of dirty power is a national security necessity, they say. And Trump administration officials have embraced this message. But experts on renewable energy economics and deployment say this narrative is misleading. They posit that a new era of gas-powered data centers is neither necessary nor inevitable.

In Honor And Memory Of Assata Shakur

On September 25, 2025, the revolutionary Assata Shakur transitioned, leaving behind a legacy of uncompromising resistance and a blueprint for internationalist solidarity. As an anti-imperialist organization rooted in the long thread of the Black Radical Peace Tradition, we honor her with a renewed commitment to the liberation struggle to which she dedicated her life. Sister Assata understood that we are a people at war, and the struggle against this war is not one-dimensional. It is a fight for human dignity, community survival, popular power, self-determination, and complete liberation. The targeting, imprisonment, and torture she endured were the state’s counterinsurgent tactics to squash a movement by capturing its warriors—those who have the radical idea that African/Black people have the right to defend themselves and to be free.

The Never Ending US Killing Fields Of Somalia

In the remote, arid landscapes of Puntland and the contested central regions of Somalia, the distant hum of a Reaper drone is the sound of a recurring nightmare. It is the herald of an explosion, of anonymous death delivered from the sky, and of a conflict that has been meticulously engineered to be endless. The United States, under the second Trump administration, has not started a new war in Somalia; it has simply intensified a long-standing project of imperial domination, cloaking it in the familiar, tattered rhetoric of counterterrorism. This escalation is not a deviation from U.S. policy but its purest expression: a neo-colonial endeavor designed to keep a nation fractured, dependent, and perpetually in the crosshairs.

Another Crazy Idea On How To Steal Russia’s Assets

The war hawks have long tried to steal Russian assets held in West to then use the money to finance the proxy war against Russia. The sums involved are serious: Nearly three years after the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Belgium holds €258 billion in frozen or immobilised Russian assets. The General Administration of Treasury at the Ministry of Finance confirmed the figures on Wednesday to La Libre and De Tijd. Some of these assets belong to institutions not sanctioned by the European Union. Frozen assets amount to €65 billion, with an additional €193 billion in immobilised transactions, primarily from the Central Bank of Russia. The money is not really held by Belgium but by the Belgium company Euroclear which acts as depository for  international central bank assets denominated in Euros. Currently the EU is confiscating the interest, not the principal, of that money to distribute it to Ukraine. That step is likely already illegal and Russia will certainly use the courts to get it back.

UK Exposed For Breaching The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

A new legal opinion launched on the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons has found that the UK’s plans to expand its nuclear weapons programme by purchasing nuclear-capable F-35A fighter jets from the US is in breach of its disarmament commitments under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The purchase means that the UK, for the first time since the end of the Cold War, will have two delivery systems for nuclear weapons and a renewed nuclear mission for the Royal Air Force (RAF) since it retired its sovereign air-launched nuclear weapons. The UK will deploy the F-35s under NATO’s nuclear Dual Capable Aircraft mission. They will be able to deliver both conventional and the nuclear B61-12 guided nuclear bomb.

Alligator Alcatraz Detainees Disappeared From ICE Database

Hundreds of people once held at the Alligator Alcatraz immigration processing center in Florida have vanished from federal records, prompting lawyers to accuse U.S. authorities of running a detention “black hole,” as a new sprawling report from El País has revealed. Immigrant advocacy groups told the news site that detainees formerly at the facility west of Miami disappeared from Immigration and Customs Enforcement‘s online locator and searches now yield the message: “Call the Florida Department of Corrections for details.” Luis Sorto of Sanctuary of the South, which has challenged restrictions on attorney access at the site, said plaintiffs in a lawsuit were moved elsewhere but never appeared in ICE’s tracking system.

Over A Billion People In The World Suffer From Mental Health Ailments

I first heard the word ‘depression’ when I was about sixteen. My mother took me to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru, India, to be seen by a professional for what I had just considered to be nightmares and difficult afternoons. I was lucky. Today, only 9% of people in the world receive treatment for depression. The doctor spoke to me for a long time, and I spent several days at NIMHANS being treated by this and other doctors. It was clear to me that my problems largely stemmed from a traumatic incident that took place a few years earlier, when I was raped in my school. My parents held me through the process, giving me the courage to get through the aftermath and shielding me from what they thought would be the absolute humiliation of a public display of the violence.
