Pro-Palestine Activists Are Under Attack In Europe

Since October 7, and the subsequent genocide in Gaza, millions have taken to the streets worldwide to demonstrate against the current genocide, as well as against the 76-year-long Israeli occupation of Palestine. In Europe and North America, and in countries in West Asia, these protests are largely directed against their own governments that are accused of not doing enough for Palestine, or are directly involved in the occupation in Palestine and in the genocide in Gaza. Political protest, which is opposed to the state and government policy, inevitably runs the risk of being met with state repression.

USA Lets Athletes Cheat With Steroids, While Accusing Russia And China

The United States has for a decade allowed athletes in international competitions, including the Olympics, to use prohibited drugs such as steroids, recruiting them as informants to spy on others. This is according to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the global authority on the use of banned substances in sports. WADA revealed this in a statement on August 7, detailing “a scheme whereby the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) allowed athletes who had doped, to compete for years, in at least one case without ever publishing or sanctioning their anti-doping rule violations, in direct contravention of the World Anti-Doping Code and USADA’s own rules”.

‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 307: At Least 56 Palestinians Killed In Gaza

At least 15 Palestinians were killed earlier on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in two new massacres by Israeli forces in Gaza, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported. According to reports, Israeli aircraft conducted separate strikes on the Abdel Fatah Hamoud and the al-Zahraa schools in eastern Gaza City. Both schools sheltered Palestinian families displaced by previous bombings. The Palestinian Red Crescent said that 15 killed Palestinians and dozens of wounded were transferred to the Baptist Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City. The Palestinian Civil Defense also reported that three Palestinians were killed in a strike on the Zeitoun neighborhood in the city.

Investigation Exposes How Etsy Profits From Israeli Apartheid

Etsy, the popular U.S.-based e-commerce website, is profiting from goods made and sold in Israel's illegal settler colonies in the occupied West Bank, a report published Wednesday revealed. "Under the radar, Etsy—the popular online platform for selling and buying artisanal and vintage items, with a mission to 'keep commerce human'—has been profiting from businesses with shops in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory (OPT)," states the briefing, which was published by the Institute for Journalism and Social Change (IJSC), Global Justice Now, and War on Want. "It's time to bring an end to this shameless corporate profiteering."

As Stock Market Crashes, Is US Facing New Financial Crisis?

Is the United States on the verge of a potential new financial crisis? This is a question that financial analysts are asking after there was a market crash on August 5. It is being compared to the famous “Black Monday” crash in the stock market in 1987. They also both happened on a Monday. So is this another Black Monday? This was the biggest market plunge since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, when many investors were selling off their holdings, fearing that there was going to be a big recession. In fact, as of the August 5th crisis, the volatility index, the VIX, which is a measurement of how rapidly stock prices move in the S&P 500 – which is the stock market index of the 500 biggest companies on U.S. stock exchanges – the volatility index is at the highest level since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

What The United Nations Chief Can Do For Gaza

Secretary-General António Guterres has limited his role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to that of a town crier, expressing “grave concern” from time to time regarding the terrible Hamas attacks against Israel on Oct. 7, 2023 and Israel’s collective punishment of the Palestinian people in Gaza every day since then and long before. To change his legacy, Guterres should establish a truth commission, propose a U.N. transitional administration and present a peace plan to get us to the “day after” in Gaza and beyond. Over decades, U.N. resolutions have compelled Palestinian leaders to surrender 78 percent of Palestine to Israel to achieve a more peaceful, secure future for their children.

ICC To Rule If The Australian Government Is Complicit In Genocide

The evidence of complicity by Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and senior parliamentarians has been accepted into the ongoing International Criminal Court (ICC) investigation into the Situation in the State of Palestine. The ‘Article 15 Communication’ submitted by Birchgrove Legal in March this year named Prime Minister Albanese as an accessory to genocide, making him the first leader of a Western nation to be referred to the ICC under the Rome Statute. In personalised correspondence received this week, the Office of the Prosecutor – International Criminal Court (OTP-ICC) advised Birchgrove Legal that the 92-page document, which was endorsed by more than one hundred Australian lawyers and barristers, had been “added to the evidence gathered and transmitted to relevant staff members for further review.”

The Victims’ Pact: Rwanda And Israel

Rwanda is the Israel of Africa. The two nations reinforce one another in a longstanding victims’ pact, while the West reinforces both. The three commonly join forces to promote Western “humanitarian interventions” like those in Libya and Syria, which are in fact wars of aggression. The foundation of Israel and Rwanda’s victims’ pact was laid a year after then General Paul Kagame and his Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) won the 1990-1994 Rwandan Civil War and seized power in July 1994. Robin Philpot, in his book Rwanda and the New Scramble for Africa, from Tragedy to Useful Imperial Fiction writes: Two specific events that often go unnoticed contributed to the official sanctioning of the use of the word “genocide” to describe the entire Rwandan tragedy.

Pressure Builds On United Nations To Uphold Court Rulings On Gaza

Almost 200,000 emails have been sent to the UN missions of a couple of dozen nations reading “I urge your country to move to convene an emergency session of the UN General Assembly and use Uniting For Peace (Resolution 377) to impose an arms embargo and targeted sanctions on the Israeli government, suspend the Israeli government from the United Nations, and send unarmed peacekeepers to Palestine.” World BEYOND War has partnered on the effort with RootsAction.org. The emails have gone to the United Nations Consulates of South Africa, Nicaragua, Brazil, Belgium, Belize, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Egypt, Honduras, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Turkey, Mexico, Pakistan, Spain, Libya, China, Russia, Algeria, Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, France, Malta, Mozambique, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Canada.

Break The Siege Ship Prevented From Sailing

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition believes in fundamental rights for all, including Palestinians. Unfortunately, these values are not shared by many of the world’s governments. Our Break the Siege mission ships and crew in Istanbul have been prepared to sail for some time now, but we have been waiting for a required document from the Turkish Port Authority, granting us permission to depart from Istanbul. Without this document our vessels would be stopped and potentially detained if we attempt to leave port. After weeks of discussions with the Port Authority, it is now clear to us that such permission will not be forthcoming from the Turkish government.

Even In Palestine, The Birds Shall Return

On 26 July, senior United Nations (UN) officials briefed the UN Security Council about the terrible situation in Gaza. ‘More than two million people in Gaza remain trapped in an endless nightmare of death and destruction on a staggering scale’, said Deputy Commissioner-General Antonia De Meo of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Within Gaza, the UN officials wrote, 625,000 children are trapped, ‘their futures at risk’. The World Health Organisation has recorded ‘outbreaks of hepatitis A and myriad other preventable diseases’ and warns that it is ‘just a matter of time’ before a polio outbreak spreads amongst children.

Palestinian Factions Strike A Reconciliation Deal

The signing of a new reconciliation deal between rival Palestinian factions in China on Tuesday was received by Palestinians both as a surprise and as unremarkable. It was not the first time that Palestinian leaders had signed an agreement committing to national unity – agreements that have previously and routinely failed to end the political divisions between the parties. But the new agreement signed in China also came completely unannounced, after recent attempts to breach the gaps between the factions during the current war, failed miserably. Is it possible the new agreement reflected a breakthrough?

Nicaragua Says USA Should Disappear If Palestine Can’t Have A State

Nicaragua’s President Daniel Ortega blasted Western support for Israel in its war on Gaza and asked, if the Palestinian people are not allowed to have a state, why does the United States itself have the right to exist? Ortega accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, and noted that the Western governments arming Tel Aviv are complicit in its crimes. The Nicaraguan president made these remarks at an event in Managua honoring the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution on July 19. He was joined by Palestinian revolutionary Leila Khaled, who denounced imperialism and neocolonialism.

183 Day Encampment Across From Secretary Of State Blinken’s House Forcefully Destroyed

From January 26, 2024, until this morning, July 26, 2024, peaceful protestors have occupied the shoulder of Chain Bridge Road in the vicinity of the home of Secretary of State Antony Blinken, demanding an end to U.S. support for the Israeli genocide in Gaza that, in low estimates, has claimed the lives of over 40,000 innocent Palestinian civilians. Throughout this time, Secretary Blinken has continued to provide weapons and funding for a military campaign that the International Court of Justice has ruled is a plausible genocide. On July 16, 2024, Virginia State Police, The Office of Virginia Attorney General, and the Virginia Department of Transportation arbitrarily demanded the removal of the peace vigil in a ‘law enforcement entrapment’.

As US Congress Cheered For Netanyahu, Protesters Gathered To Denounce Him

Washington, DC – Hours before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the United States Capitol to deliver a speech to Congress, a woman with a blue scarf concealing her face sat alone on a park bench and waved a Palestinian flag near Union Station in Washington, DC. “We will fight for freedom wherever it’s being denied all over the world. We connect with the Palestinians because we are freedom fighters here in America,” the lone protester, who asked to remain anonymous, told Al Jazeera on Wednesday. She was one of the thousands of protesters who would ultimately gather across the capital city to demonstrate against the Israeli prime minister’s speech.
