‘Students For Justice In Palestine’ Coalition Unites Arizona Campuses

On Friday, June 28, we formed a coalition of Students for Justice in Palestine chapters throughout Arizona in response to state-wide suppression of pro-Palestine activism. As leaders in Students for Justice in Palestine at the University of Arizona and Arizona State University, we faced little choice but to respond to the slew of bills targeting pro-Palestinian activism on Arizonas’ public campuses— as the threats to our activism grew, our strategy had to change with them. The only way to combat repressive laws and policies was to take a stand together, facing head-on a historically ruthless, right-wing legislature.

Students Left Out Of Discussions About Student Gaza Protests

Recent student-led campus encampments in solidarity with Palestine prompted considerable media conversation. But, according to a new FAIR study examining TV and newspaper discussions in the period from April 21 to May 12, those conversations rarely included students themselves—and even fewer included student protesters. FAIR examined how often key corporate media discussion forums contain student and activist voices. The Sunday morning shows (ABC’s This Week, CBS’s Face the Nation, NBC’s Meet the Press, CNN’s State of the Union and Fox News Sunday) brought on no students or activists, opting instead to speak primarily with government officials.

‘Summer School’ Activists Plan Pro-Palestinian Protests At US Colleges

Student activists are planning a fresh wave of pro-Palestine protests at US colleges this fall, boosted by a “summer school” led by organizers over the break, ramping up coordination and strategy in the wake of police crackdowns on campuses this past spring. Despite academic suspensions, doxing attempts and the arrests of more than 3,000 students nationwide, the students who occupied their campuses’ lawns with tents last semester are gearing up for another – possibly bigger – round of demonstrations “on all fronts, by all means”, calling once again for a ceasefire in Gaza and for their colleges to divest from financial ties to Israel.

Borrell Calls For EU Sanctions Against Israeli Ministers

EU Foreign Policy chief Josep Borrell said on 11 August that the bloc must consider imposing sanctions against Israeli far-right ministers Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich for “incitement to war crimes.” Borrell urged the Israeli government to clearly dissociate itself from individuals who incite war crimes and to work seriously towards a ceasefire deal. The high-ranking EU official also denounced Ben Gvir for urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt all humanitarian aid and fuel to the Gaza Strip amidst the ongoing genocide. Finance Minister Smotrich’s comments about starving two million Gazans by withholding aid in exchange for Israeli captives as “sinister,” in stark contrast to the Israeli minister’s assertion that the approach is “justified and moral.”

Pro-Palestine Activists Are Under Attack In Europe

Since October 7, and the subsequent genocide in Gaza, millions have taken to the streets worldwide to demonstrate against the current genocide, as well as against the 76-year-long Israeli occupation of Palestine. In Europe and North America, and in countries in West Asia, these protests are largely directed against their own governments that are accused of not doing enough for Palestine, or are directly involved in the occupation in Palestine and in the genocide in Gaza. Political protest, which is opposed to the state and government policy, inevitably runs the risk of being met with state repression.

Western Food Brands See Profits Tank Due To Boycott For Israeli Ties

Companies operating western food and drinks brands in Muslim countries are suffering significant losses due to an ongoing boycott of firms doing business with Israel amid its genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, the Financial Times reported on 5 August. Consumers in majority Muslim nations, such as Egypt, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, are boycotting companies such as McDonalds, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, KFC, Starbucks, Mondelez, and Pizza Hut to protest their support for Israel in the war in Gaza. “This event is unprecedented. The length of this conflict is unprecedented. The intensity is unprecedented,” Amarpal Sandhu, chief executive of Americana Restaurants, stated on a conference call

Axis Of Resistance Expands Solidarity With Palestine

In his first speech after the Al-Aqsa Flood, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stated that the support front from Lebanon operates according to two criteria: one related to the scale of the enemy’s attacks and the other concerning the support needed to prevent the breaking of the resistance in Gaza. The leader of Ansarallah, Sayyed Abdulmalik Al-Houthi, was quick to announce that Yemen’s involvement in the battle aims to stop the aggression and lift the siege on Gaza. Both parties, in all subsequent statements issued by their respective war media, emphasized key phrases: supporting Gaza, backing its resistance and striving to stop the aggression and lift the siege.

Arrest Netanyahu! Surround Congress On July 24

When war criminal Netanyahu comes to Washington DC on July 24, we will mobilize and issue a notice of a citizen’s arrest! The people of the world stand with Palestine and against the genocide committed by Israel with full support of the United States and impunity. Join us in forming a People’s Red Line Against genocide around the Capitol building! Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of the genocidal state of Israel should be arrested for war crimes and crimes against humanity. In fact, the International Criminal Court has requested arrest warrants for him and Yoav Gallant, the Minister of Defense of Israel. We won’t let a war criminal walk the streets of DC.

NEA Educators For Palestine Call On Union To Un-Endorse Biden

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Hundreds of educators held a pro-Palestine rally outside the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia on July 3. They were participating in the National Education Association Representative Assembly, where they planned to introduce 10 New Business items (NBIs) involving education around Palestine, U.S. military spending in support of Israel, support for boycotts targeting Israel  and solidarity with Palestinian unions and with teachers in the U.S. engaged in protests against the genocide in Gaza. The rally was called by NEA Educators for Palestine, who are also pushing the U.S.’s largest teachers’ union to hold a secret ballot vote to rescind its endorsement of President Joe Biden.

July 24: No Free Speech For War Criminal Benjamin Netanyahu!

July 24 is a moment for which the whole movement should begin considering, planning and strategizing for mass actions, shut-downs, stay-aways, sit-ins, walkouts, traffic blocks, work stoppages, strikes and more. In every city of the U.S. and internationally we have a responsibility to denounce Netanyahu’s address to Congress. This is an event designed to normalize and give an embrace to Israeli apartheid. We encourage every group and individual of conscience to think about what can be done collectively on July 24. This is a moment for breaking ranks with the genocidal established order. There is a protest already called at the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C., on July 24. We hope this will be as large as possible and encourage anyone who is able to go to D.C.

Spain Is First European State To Back ICJ Genocide Case Against Israel

Spain filed a Declaration of Intervention on 28 June in the case accusing Israel of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), becoming the first European state to do so. “This intervention is motivated by our responsibility as a State party to the Genocide Convention and our firm commitment to international law,” said the Spanish Foreign Ministry. In December, South Africa brought the case against Israel to the ICJ, the world’s highest court, alleging that Israel’s ongoing war on Palestinians in Gaza is a breach of the Genocide Convention. “We seek to contribute to bringing peace back to Gaza and the Middle East,” the Spanish Foreign Ministry added, emphasizing the need for a two-state solution to ensure lasting peace and stability for Palestinians and Israelis.

Anti-War Organizers On The Pacific Coast Protest US Military Exercises

Anti-war activists with the international Cancel RIMPAC Campaign and the Resist NATO Coalition are organizing to protest the RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific Exercise), the largest international maritime warfare exercise, taking place in Hawai’i, which is hosted by the United States Navy‘s Indo-Pacific Command, set to begin on June 27. Organizers are also opposing the upcoming NATO Summit in Washington, DC, which will take place from July 9 to 11. These two groups held a joint press conference to quick off future actions on June 26. Cancel RIMPAC is holding a week of action culminating in a People’s Summit and mobilizations in San Diego on June 29 and 30.

In Tehran, Gaza Rekindles The Revolution

One late January evening in Tehran, I watch Baba Saeed, my 87-year-old grandfather, listen to Israeli TV in the darkly lit living room that also serves as his library. As he hunches in his velvet armchair, the light absorbs him and turns his glossy white hair and his face a bluish-green. I sit beside him on the carpet. Above us on wooden shelves, Japanese dolls with long kimonos from my childhood stand with dusty cheeks. Here, probably Baba Saeed’s last house, objects mourn their own ruined decadence. On the screen, a man Baba Saeed’s age, Menashe Amir, broadcasts from Jerusalem in a deeply ominous, raspy voice, predicting Israel’s victory over the Iranian “political establishment.”

Columbia University Hind’s Hall Defendants Reject Deals

We stand here today united by our action and the Palestinian cause. The state has attempted, once again, to divide us, dismissing some of our cases and offering others deals in accordance with their “outside agitator” narrative. As ever, we categorically reject this division as one drawn along arbitrary, classist lines meant to preserve the sanctity of Columbia University—not an institution “in the City of New York,” but always above and apart from it. All of us who took part in the liberation of Hind’s Hall were driven by the same necessity to escalate, to escalate for Gaza, to resist the savage genocide of our siblings in Palestine.

UC Santa Cruz Chancellor Unleashes Police Mayhem Against Students

Before midnight on May 30, 2024, police officers from across California descended on the Gaza Solidarity encampment at UC Santa Cruz. Numbering in the few hundreds, police from the UC Santa Cruz, UC San Francisco, UC Davis, UC Riverside, as well as San Jose, San Bruno, San Mateo, Daly City, Pacifica, South San Francisco, Santa Clara, and Watsonville police departments, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol responded to a request, authorized by UCSC Chancellor Cynthia Larive, for “mutual aid.” What ensued was a brutal multi-agency assault by CHP and other police against unarmed protesters that lasted for nine hours and resulted in significant injuries.
